I don't recommend purchasing the chargers. I have a cord that connects to my computer that does not work and my chargers do not work. They worked when I bought them but right after the warranty was over that they stopped. They are just cheap - so I guess I got what I paid for.

Sony Ericsson W580i Black Phone (AT&T) Review

Sony Ericsson W580i Black Phone (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was up for a two year contract renewal for ATT and for months now I have wanted an iPhone but I've waited for the 3G, or at least the second generation, iPhone... my trusty SE s710a was still good but I figured if I have to sign a new 2yr with the iPhone anyway, why not get a free phone out of it?
After looking at the lackluster selection of phones by ATT, I was captured by the style of the w580i. So I figured I would give it a try... and I am not regretting it a bit!
This phone is much smaller than the monster I had before, and unlike older SE phones, the UI is very snappy. If you read most online reviews, they speak the truth. The keypad is small but after a little while you get used to it. T9 is much improved over my previous phone.
The camera is OK, nothing special. But it's better quality then the iPhone!
Call quality is superb. Feels comfortable in your hand during prolonged periods of time. I have had many friends say that the sound quality on their end is much improved over my previous s710a. The loudspeaker on this can get LOUD but it's good that way!
The Walkman function on here is killer! I works sort of like an iPhone's in how smoth it functions. There's a dedicated WKM button, anytime you need to go to the app, click it and you jump to the WKM program, click it again and you go right back to where you were!
The sliding function has been solid so far, only time will tell if it lasts. The keys have been reported to crack easily- one reason I'm not discarding my s710a yet... we'll see. But that's not a reason to not buy this phone. I love it to death right now and it will deffinately hold me over till I get a 2nd or 3rd gen iPhone!
BTW the SanDisk 4GB MemoryStick Micro M2 card works perfectly fine with this phone. And since the phones memory is only about 14MB, it's DEFFINTELY worth the extra cost to get one.
UPDATE 02/2008: After using this phone daily for several months now, I am still loving it. The walkman is somewhat solid, and file transfers from the phone and a iMac is smooth. Pictures look good, especially in daylight- night shots are very unimpressive.
I hate the the ATT Internet button on the front. Both shortcut buttons are not re-assignable, so every time i click that button it tries to connect to the internet, which i disabled... very annoying. But nothing to keep me from recommending this phone for the price you can get it with,
Constuction has been holding up. The plastic is clicking a little, but I think it will be OK. The screen is amazingly crack/scratch resistant.
Phone call quality isnt as stellar as I first said, but much improved over the s710. I think real flip phones still have better phone quality. Real flip phones also have a much worse UI, which for a texter is more important.
4GB Flash card works without a hitch. Still my phone of choice to hold me over till iPhone 2.0, sometime in Summer/Fall 2008

Sony Ericsson shakes things up with its new quad-band W580i Walkman phone, introducing an innovative "shake to shuffle" feature that randomly chooses another song stored on your phone with just a flick of the wrist. This thin, slider-style phone also features a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, fast Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR connectivity with music streaming, Memory Stick Micro expansion, Web browser for viewing full Internet sites, email access, an FM radio with RDS, and EDGE data support.
AT&T Service The W580i operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"), with availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. This third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

The front of this slider phone includes dedicated music control buttons, and it includes Sony Ericsson's innovative "shake to shuffle" feature. A vibration lets you know that the track has been changed--a new song from your current playlist is randomly selected and automatically played.
With the TrackID service, you can identify any song that you can hear by just recording a snippet of sound using the microphone. After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. The built-in 2.0 megapixel camera captures stills and video--and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size. Picture effects and custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be setup to fit your personality. It provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). And the W580i makes it easy to send snapped photos directly to a blog or an online photo, complete with text. This phone is also compatible with RTSP/3GPP streaming video playback
You can even take your favorite tracks to the track with the W580i, which will count your steps, your calories and monitor your running speed/distance/time with the integrated motion sensor. Your workout results are stored in your phone so you can monitor your progress.
The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. It also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages.
The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard. This means the phone can be used with the included Sony Ericsson Sync Station software, which lets you synchronize your Microsoft Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks on your PC with the phone.

I am not sure what the other reviewers are comparing this phone to, but I can say this is the best smartphone I have ever owned. I've been using the phone for four months. Here is what you should know about the phone:
1) Phone sports a beautiful 800 x 480 touch screen. The touch screen is very responsive compared to other touchscreen phones I've used, with the exception of the iPhone -- which is the gold standard in touch responsiveness -- but doesn't have nearly as many features.
2) The Xperia is infinitely customizable. The panels allow you to quickly switch between home screens for Search, Facebook, Skype, Weather, Photo Slideshow and many more.
3) I also love Windows Mobile. The phone can do almost anything. All of the features of the most advanced smartphone are available; MMS, Video recording, File Explorer, Micro SD Card, Cut & Paste, WiFi, Stereo Bluetooth and the best Exchange E-Mail integration available.
4) Although the OS is a bit dated, there are thousands of third party applications developed for it that anything it cannot do out of the box can easily be added to the device via third party software. A couple of applications I could not do without are SPB Mobile Shell, eWallet, Google Maps, Astraware Solitaire, Opera Browser, Live Search, WMWifiRouter not to mention the native Microsoft Office applications -- Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. All of these applications run perfectly on the Xperia X1.
5) The only things I'd like to see changed on the device are a bigger screen and improved keyboard. The screen size is 3.0 inches and I'd prefer 3.2 or 3.5 inches. The keyboard is made of flat steel keys in a small form factor that my fingers slide to easily over.
There's much more to the phone than I can give credit to in this forum, but I have been using Windows Mobile phones for about 9 years and find the SE Xperia X1a the best yet. The phone also comes with extended service and support that blows away anything offered from competing manufacturers. Check out http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones/overview/x1?lc=en&cc=us for more info.

I bought it and found it no fair for the price... I'm not using it anymore because when I placed it on my phone, always there are little points of dust that stick and make a rare aspect of the display screen. I found it too expensive analyzing price vs. quality.

I've had this phone for over a month, and I LOVE IT!!
I don't talk much on the phone, but I listen to music, watch video, take pictures, and send text msg with it a lot. I charge my phone maybe every three days. I think the battery last a very reasonable amount of time for the way I use it.
The keypad might take awhile to get used to, but I am a keyboard person and I really love the QWERTY keypad. I can type pretty fast with this keypad (I used to think sending text msg was a pain because of the ABC keypad).
The video taken with this phone is in .3GP format. You can just google search K-lite mega codec and download the codec pack. Then you can play the video you take on PC. And the codec pack is free! Or if you think installing codec is too much, you can just download Quicktime. It's also free.
When you buy the phone, there is everything you need inside the box, including menu and CD software.
On the home screen, there are 15 shortcut spaces for you to put some "hard to locate" applications. For internet browser, I recommend Opera. It's way better than the one came with the phone. When I use internet, I always go to the connection (top left corner) to make sure I am connected to a wifi connection. So I never have a problem with it.
Some people mentioned that their phone froze a lot. I think they just got a bad phone. My phone has only frozen once for this one and a half month. Compare to M600i, P1i is really tons faster and responsive. Everything is just so smooth.
I love this phone because it's basically a small PDA with phone function. I can make to-do list. I can read pdf, doc, ppt, etc files. I can watch movies and videos on it. I can listen to music on it. I can use Skype. I can use messengers. For the music player, you can minimize it. So you can actually do something else on the phone while listening to music. There are pretty useful symbian and uiq softwares you can install onto the phone. The most I use is AED (advanced english dictionary). You can also download/buy game console emulator and play old games on the phone! Like GBA, NES, etc.
I also bought a bluetooth receiver for my computer. So that I can connect the phone with the computer through BT, and it is VERY convenient. I can transfer all my files and photos within seconds. I do use card reader to transfer big files like videos since BT is not a fast way to do it.
Now Sandisk makes 8gb M2 card and this phone supports it!
There is only one thing to complain: I still can't get the PC Suite to work... But I can live without it.
In a nutshell, P1i is a great phone. I don't think I will need to buy a new phone within the next three years :D

The 3.2 megapixel camera takes great shots to store or share via Picture Blogging and is also a useful tool for work purposes. It does away with the need to collect stacks of business cards when traveling. Just take a close-up shot of a business card and the card scanner transfers the contact details directly into the phonebook.
The P1i shines as a music player, offering a great way to listen and organize your digital tunes on the go. The in-phone media player supports video and audio playback--supported audio formats include MP3 and AAC. -Even with a brilliant huge 4" display, it feels really comfortable and light in hand thanks to its very sleek design.
-8.1 MP camera is one of the best you can find on smartphones.
-Android market has all the apps I need - love it.
-Its music player simply rocks. Stock headphone delivers clean and crisp bass -which is quite a rarity. Watching youtube and other videos on it over 3G/wifi is really an awesome experience.
-Android 1.6 works just fine for me as I'm used to +/- zooming. And because of the big high resolution display, I don't have to zoom that often. I will probably not buy anything with smaller display again. It's so much fun to browse on a 4" display.
-Battery life is above the average. If you use your 'smartphone' quite often every day, you've to plug it in every night anyway.
-Its trademark features timescape and mediascape are really interesting. They put together all my daily and social activities in one single place.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with this phone.

This is by far the best cell phone out there currently. I bought this phone about a week ago and was waiting for it for some time, but the wait was worth it.
The phone has many excellent features, such as:
o Multi band covering the whole world
o Full communication suite (BT, wireless, push email, Internet...) that is easy to setup
o Nice touch screen and nice panels, which can be developed by a normal user
o Office tools and applications
o and many more
Its features are better than many cell phones such as the HTC diamond, which is comparable to it, and is always said that this is an imitation of it. Moreover, it runs great and flawlessly.
The couple of things that I would like to be better are the speaker phone function, it just needs to be a little bit louder, and the multimedia player that comes with it, but again you can always buy third party applications that can cover all types of audio and video.
I'm extremely happy with the phone and recommend it to anybody and everybody.

I bought this phone and returned it a week later. I have AT&T service and was un-able to get picture messages. I called Sony, AT&T and no one was able to help me. The features of the phone is great, but too compact for me. Texting was too time consuming, and placing a call was not that easy as well. I like the look and what it offered but it needs to be in a much larger body. Pictures were great, moving through the phone was fast, but just was un-happy that I paid so much for the phone and could not get picture messages, nor use the video calling feature. How funny, now AT&T carries this phone, I would have been able to use all the features now.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android Unlocked Cell Phone, White Review

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android Unlocked Cell Phone, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love playing with new phones when it comes out so when I heard that Sony Ericsson was releasing an Android phone I was excited. Before I continue I want to state that my last couple of phones consist of the Nokia N900, Blackberry 9700 Bold, HTC HD2 and my Google Nexus One which I love.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is Beautiful compared to my recent phones. The hard ware is classy and top notch which is usual when it comes to Sony Ericsson phones. Although the screen of the X10 is not AMOLED it still looks gorgeous on that large screen. The buttons on the phone are well thought of but I wished they placed the Micro USB on the bottom instead of on the top of the phone. Whoever designed that wasn't thinking right. The back cover is easy to remove but in order to get the SIM or memory card out you need to remove the battery. It doesn't bother me but some people might. Now to the software part...
The X10 unfortunately comes with Android version 1.6 but an upgrade to 2.1 is on the way. Sony Ericsson stated that they will release an update but we're not sure when that's going to happen. The fine developers at [...] will probably root the phone and release an efficient ROM way before Sony releases an upgrade. I haven't used Android 1.6 since my T-Mobile HTC G1 but it isn't that bad compared to 2.1.
Some points...
- Now to the whole keyboard issue; I tried using the stock keyboard and it is waaaay better than what everyone's reporting. The space bar needs to be bigger but overall it's not that bad. My nexus one stock keyboard gave me more of as fit that's why I used Smart Keyboard pro which works great on the X10. Whoever plans on getting an X10 will eventuall download and customize their X10 so I don't see it as a big problem.
- Sony Ericsson's Timescape and Mediascape is like HTC's Sense UI, but it's not as rooted. Timescape and Mediascape was a little slow when I used it in the beginning so I removed it altogether and will wait for an update. I think Timescape and Mediascape seems to be the cause of everyone's complaint that the phone is lagging. If you don't use Timescape or Mediascape the phone works fast and flawlessly. My stock Nexus One before being rooted was actually slow so I decided to root and use the faster ROMs. That's why when the X10 is rooted I will definitely root it myself to make the phone even better.
- I love that the phone works flawlessly with T-Mobile USA's 3G bands. When you put your SIM card make sure you have the T-Mobile Android plan then configure the phone's Access Point settings. If you have 3G in your area you'll love the access. :)
The one drawback of this phone is that it's expensive which a lot of people think is overpriced. Most Sony Ericsson smartphones were always expensive. I used to have the Sony Ericsson P900 and Xperia X1 and they were expensive when they first came out. I want to rate this phone based on how fun it is and not use price as a factor.
Overall, I love the phone even for the shortcomings because I see the potential in the horizon. If you can look past the price and just enjoy the phone I think you will be very pleased like me. :)

I love this phone!! I mean in my opinion there will never be a perfect phone there is always a flaw; however there are a couple of things I do did not like or disagree about. First I do not like how the text messages pop up on the front of the screen like as a screen saver, but no biggie you can change the settings on that! Next I did not like the battery life span, it is very little and should last much longer. Then the volume on this phone is not loud enough. Don't get me wrong I can hear it, but I need something loud as if im in another room and the phone is in another. Instead when I get to it I see that I had like 3 miss calls. I have not had any other issues like it freezing up. Other than the flaws I stated I love it! I would definetely recommend this to a friend. Like they say you get what you pay and I am well satified....Thanks Sony!

This was my first smartphone. The apps of the android system are great, but if you download many of them your system is likely to crash a lot. The touchscreen may be cool at first, but sometimes simple tasks such as dialing or saving a number may become annoying, especially if the system gets slower and slower due to apps. The battery life is not too good. I have to recharge the phone daily even if I didn't make a long phone call. I am satisfied with the camera, which produces very good photos in my opinion. What makes this phone great is its size, look and the camera. Although the size makes this phone pretty handy, the touchscreen and the system may not be very convenient especially for basic usage such as phone calls and sms. All in all, I still like it but I think I should have bought the version with integrated keypad.

Sony Ericsson C905i Unlocked Cell Phone with 8 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, International 3G, GPS, M2 Memory Slot--International Version with No U.S. Warranty (Night Black) Review

Sony Ericsson C905i Unlocked Cell Phone with 8 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, International 3G, GPS, M2 Memory Slot--International Version with No U.S. Warranty (Night Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The C905 is the latest addition to the Sony Ericsson Cybershot range. Somewhat bulky but not too heavy, the black plastic chassis is coated with a rubber finish to give you a better grip of the phone. The spring loaded sliding mechanism and the brushed metal sliding camera lens cover are impressive, but the strangely shaped battery cover along with the bolted-on sim holder makes removing the (u)sim card a bit of a hassle.
The interface of the C905 hasn't evolved much from its predecessors (C902, K850, etc), so if you're a seasoned Sony Ericsson user, you would have no problem using this phone straight out of the box.
The first thing you'd notice about this phone is the fact it's both GPS and WIFI enabled (B&G only). Although nothing new, these two features have been missing from most high-end SE phones released between 2007-2008, whereas you can find them on most of Nokia's N-Series and E-Series phones. The GPS feature uses Google Map, which requires connection to the internet to download the required map to the phone. Therefore, you might want to sign up for an unlimited data plan with your service provider if you're going to use this feature heavily.
I'm not sure at this point whether you can download the map through the phone's WIFI receiver, but it seems that the phone will connect to the internet automatically the second you turn on the google map application. There's an option to turn off the GPS receiver, but no option to turn off the internet connection.
The multimedia features of the C905 are not worth mentioning, mostly because they are the same as those you'd find on C902, K850 and K810. The only thing worth mentioning here is the fact that SE has increased the resolution of the built-in camera to a whopping 8.1 megapixel, which generates picture files that are around 2 Megabyte each. The internal available memory of the phone is only around 106 Megabyte, so if you snap alot of photographs on the go, you may want to buy additional memory cards to store them. The Sony Ericsson website claims that the phone will handle memory stick micro cards up to 8GB in size, and my Sandisk 8GB card seems to work well with the phone.
The pictures look good on the phone screen but tend to be a little noisy at full view even when shooting under daylight conditions, but is generally good enough to produce very sharp A3 prints. The xenon flash produces bright and rich colours but is a little weak (according to SE you can only shoot a subject from about four steps away), but is more than adequate to beat those models that come with LED flashes.
The supplied battery is amazingly small but has a power rating of 930mah, which is more than ample for 3 hours worth of calls.
The C905, is it a phone with a built-in camera or is it a pocket-sized camera with a quadband transceiver? One thing's for sure, it's definately an upgrade over the C902 (minus the touch screen feature) and the K850 as it takes impromptu photography to a whole new level with the large 8.1 mp sensor.

I purchased the case not expecting much, having been disappointed in other similar purchases. However, this case truly does what it say it will do. You can use it on your belt with the swivel clasp, or you can easily remove the clasp and use it as a glove. It easily allows the phone to fit inside a pocket with a protective cover. With the glove on, you can easily use the phone, and all the buttons. Recommend this if you want an easy adjustable phone holder that fits the sony ericsson exactly.

Two days with this phone and I'm totally loving it, what a breath of fresh air having used an iPhone for over 2 years.
Pros:
1. Awesome screen, can't be compared with the "retina display" but seriously it doesn't make much difference. BUT, I seriously hope SE starts packing more pixels (they have not in the Arc model). Pix and Videos look awesome on this screen. After all, size does matter!
2. Phone came with Android 2.1 and I like it better than iPhone 4.2.1. For some reason, I think it excites the geek in me. The iOS is a bit too user-friendly that I almost feel like an idiot using it :)
3. The best part is the "i" in the phone, I can use it almost anywhere in the world - both voice and data. The HSDPA supports 800/850/900/1700/1900/2100 so the 3G will work in many european and asian countries as well as in the US.
4. The size is so right that it fits very well in your hands.
Cons:
1. No front-facing camera (not in the Arc model either, SE wake up!!)
2. No retina display
3. Not many quality accessories available.
4. In-call volume and battery life could use improvements, but not a show stopper.
Get this phone is you like freedom, universal (almost) usage and saving $$$ (or whatever your currenty is!).
Cheers!
