MyTouch 3G Cell Phone (T-Mobile) Black Review

I think this is my second review on amazon because i never do them but for this one I need to warn people of this crap. I got the Fender edition and since I bought it I had problems with it. First it was because i couldn't use the camera because it didn't read the micro SD. Chatted with a T-Mobile rep and told me to restore the whole phone, I did and it worked for just 2 weeks, also this happened the very first day I bought it! Because I got tired of restoring the phone every time it stopped taking pics, I had to take the sd out and put it in so it would work.
But What really completely killed it was this January when finally I got the message saying that I can update to Froyo, I did and was the worst decision ever. It freezes, it doesn't load sometimes, it takes an hour to download a 200+kb app, it shuts down randomly, it over heats, the battery only last 3-4 hours without me using it at all, typing takes forever since it freezes every time you click on a letter and the only thing that can actually works fine is a solitaire app that I downloaded. I even tried to restored the phone but it's still the same and i know other people that got the same problem with their normal mytouch, so it's not because it's the Fender edition.
Positive things- well the fender edition is pretty, from the home charger to the earphones (which are uncomfortable as heck) and it had some music apps and like 50 free songs in the memory but because I restored the phone the very fist day I got it, I never heard any of the songs.
If you buy it, just don't do the froyo update if it doesn't have it already. But really, don't waste your money on this, it's obsolete by now (and it was obsolete when I bought it cuz a month later the mytouch slider came out and like 3 months after the 4g one) For less than $200 you can get a LG G2x that is way advance than this. That's what I did, my G2x is arriving at my home on Monday :D

This is by far the best cell phone out there currently. I bought this phone about a week ago and was waiting for it for some time, but the wait was worth it.
The phone has many excellent features, such as:
o Multi band covering the whole world
o Full communication suite (BT, wireless, push email, Internet...) that is easy to setup
o Nice touch screen and nice panels, which can be developed by a normal user
o Office tools and applications
o and many more
Its features are better than many cell phones such as the HTC diamond, which is comparable to it, and is always said that this is an imitation of it. Moreover, it runs great and flawlessly.
The couple of things that I would like to be better are the speaker phone function, it just needs to be a little bit louder, and the multimedia player that comes with it, but again you can always buy third party applications that can cover all types of audio and video.
I'm extremely happy with the phone and recommend it to anybody and everybody.

Motorola CLIQ XT Android Phone (T-Mobile) Review

Motorola CLIQ XT Android Phone (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I previously had the G1 Google phone which I loved, but had grown tired of the slider physical keyboard. It was still the best phone I had ever owned, with the Android Market apps making it endlessly customizable and ever improving.
So when I went to look for a non-slider Android, my only choices were the MyTouch which I didn't like the look of, the Samsung Behold II which seemed universally disliked from what I read, and the Cliq XT.
As soon as I held this phone in the T-Mobile store, it was love at first sight.
While not being that much smaller in dimension than the G1, it feels sleeker, lighter and more high tech. The front has a grooved face which might be a dust magnet over time, but the back has a rubberized textured surface that gives the phone a really high quality feel.
Already very familiar with the Android OS from my G1, I was able to jump in immediately. Almost all my apps transferred from the G1. Five homescreens rather than three is a welcome improvement, although I don't like clutter so I only use two.
The screen is as nicely responsive as the G1, and seems brighter on the lowest setting (necessary to keep on lowest setting, all these smartphones are huge battery hogs). I'm not running the Blur features because I'm not that into Facebook, Twitter, etc. so I can't speak about what those do to the battery. I'm just relieved they're optional and not mandatory on the screen.
Which is what's so great about the Android phones: Just about everything about them is 100% customizable to your tastes/needs. I've never touched an iPhone and really have no desire to after seeing what Android can do.
Vast improvements:
*The touchpad replaces the G1's trackball which was always a bit too sensitive. This makes navigating tiny website links a breeze.
*Web page loading seems much snappier on the XT, even on 2G. Plus uses the great multitouch and pinch feature for zooming.
*The 5 mp camera with flash takes fantastic pictures, unlike the G1 which lacked a flash.
*Separate headphone jack and charging jack: The G1 integrated them in one which seemed foolish in light of how much time was spent charging it.
*Proximity sensor: LOVE. On a call this turns the screen off (rather than locking it like the G1 did) to prevent mistaken key presses. When you pull it away from your face (to use a numeric call menu for instance) it turns the screen back on. This should be on every phone.
*Virtual keyboard: The whole reason I got this was to get away from the physical keyboard. While it comes loaded with Swype, I found that to be very inaccurate with an annoying pop-up screen constantly trying to guess what you typed. Instead there's a Swype-style app on the market called SlideIT that works the same only far more accurate, with larger keys and fully customizable shortcut dictionary. It isn't free (I paid about $8), but worth every penny in my opinion.
*Speaker on the front rather than the back. Now music sounds loud and clear. The G1's speaker was on the back making audio muffled, making earphones required practically at all times.
Combined with Motorola's superior call quality, this phone is a solid unit that fits well in your pocket and feels great in your hand. I really can't think of anything bad about it except the battery life (1 to 1-1/2 days if you don't use it constantly), but the G1 did a good job of lowering my expectations there. People complain about the firmware being out of date (still running 1.5, waiting for 2.1), but not knowing what I'm missing the XT's performance is more than enough for my needs.
EDIT: Less than a year later, and Moto has decided to strand the XT on the ancient Android version 1.5. Increasingly laggy performance, random reboots (at least twice a day) and the number of apps that support this version dwindling daily -- Moto doesn't care. Their solution is to push the new Cliq2 on us, which needless to say I'm not falling for. Sayonara, Moto. I used to be a happy, loyal customer, but I won't support a company that won't support its own products.

High-speed data connectivity via T-Mobile's 3G network:In addition to its quad-band GSM connectivity, this phone is also compatible with T-Mobile's UMTS/HSDPA 3G network, which operates on the 1700/2100 MHz AWS spectrum. This phone is designed to automatically connect to the best available network (3G or GSM/GPRS/EDGE) to provide faster data speeds when accessing the Web.
In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the via T-Mobile's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"). While this phone is optimized for use with T-Mobile's high-speed 3G network, many of its functions will also work well on the moderate-speed EDGE network. If you plan to access the Internet extensively on your phone, 3G network coverage may serve you best.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 Cell Phone with 3G, 3.2 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, MicroSD - International Version with No Warranty (Black)
Average Reviews:

I'll just list out the aspects of the phone. More convenient that way.
-Touchscreen: Not as responsive nor as user-friendly and intuitive as the iPhone, but definitely usable, stylus (which is provided), and finger-wise. Sharp, bright colors, with an auto-adjust function that works amazingly well, even in bright sunlight. Slightly recessed, so it does collect dust and other debris (which I found surprisingly annoying, since even lint easily picks up from my pocket), but overall, very attractive and usable.
-Windows Mobile 6.1: Though there are still some bugs, a marked improvement over the last version. The one really annoying aspect of the system is still the slow loading time, and the main nagging thing I noted is that there's a HUGE lag after text messaging, after the message informing you that the text was sent. The system freezes for a good 5-10 seconds, and won't let you do anything during that time frame. Mostly just annoying, though certainly not a detractor, especially if you don't text a whole lot.
-The keyboard: Spacious, despite the compactness, and slightly curved, with an assisted spring mechanism that feel very, very solid. The one qualm I have is that they keys are nearly flush with the tray, and the top row can be difficult to press, since it's nearly flush beneath the screen. Other than that, with some use, it's easy to get used to, and doesn't add bulk or awkward feeling to the phone, like some full QWERTY keyboards. The keys are also backlit, which is a nice touch, especially in shadowed or darkened areas.
-The keys: There's plenty of softkeys and shortcuts available, and they're very well-suited for the phone. There's an optical joystick (passing your finger over the surface allows you to scroll without physically pressing the top/bottom keys, or the screen), which also serves as an "OK" key. I really liked that addition to the phone, since I'm not a big trackball fan, and the sensitivity is customizable, since a too sensitive setting can sometimes lead to wrong commands. There's a dedicated panel key, which is somewhat like a home-screen key, since it takes you to the main panel selection every time. There are also dedicated phone keys, a toggle on the side for volume, and a power/sleep button on the top. They don't detract from the phone, and the only sticking point is that they're sometimes a bit stiff to press. Other than that, it's a nice, somewhat comforting feeling to have dedicated keys available, unlike the iPhone.
-The panels: These have been touted as, and are, really, the main attraction of the phone. They're are an interesting, very positive feature, since they're customizable (you can even move them around, though this has to be done through choosing a panel and editing it, instead of just dragging it across the screen, which would have been much more intuitive), and varied, and give the Windows system a more personal feel. They can be a bit laggy, but they're fun and functional (the fish panel is just amusing, with the ability of the fish to change color, follow the touch, or swim away if pressed), though I've yet to find a use for the Google page, since it always defaults to Internet Explorer, which I don't utilize.
-Internet browsing: Pretty snappy and speedy, even on the Edge network. The area in which I live doesn't support the 3G bands on this particular phone (I have the overseas Xi, while the U.S. will ship the Xia), though bigger cities with the 1900mHz towers do. I don't use Internet Explorer, since it's still one of the most useless and dated mobile browsers out there. The phone is shipped with Opera Mobile 9.5 installed, which works similarly to Safari on the iPhone, though thankfully the cut and paste options are available, unlike the iPhone. (Trust me, after you've given up that option, and then come back to it, you'll really notice the difference. Why Apple hasn't picked up on that yet, I'll never know...) There is also the option of downloading Skyfire, which works very well, sometimes faster than Opera. Both platforms support Flash, and display the full-page layout, like you'd see on your PC. Either way, pretty enjoyable experience there.
-Text/Multimedia Messaging: Windows finally incorporated the threaded conversation for text messaging, much like the iPhone did, creating a more "IM" feel to conversations, and making it much easier to keep track of specific conversations. It lags a bit, as mentioned prior, but a great improvement, without a doubt. It also does Multimedia messaging, and for that alone, in some ways, it is worth more than the iPhone, since Apple still refuses to include that basic function.
-Camera/Video/Music: The camera is 3.2 MP, a very decent camera, especially considering the phone size. It includes a flash, and can be adjusted for various speeds, colors, effects, etc. There is also a video-camera, which records up to 30fps, though only 24fps, I believe, for the American version. Why the difference, I couldn't say. The music player is easy to access (it has it's own panel), and there is also a Sony FM radio included, which is a nice touch, and easy to use, though only with the headphones included, since they act as an antennae, apparently. Still, very decent media package.
-Construction: I have the silver finish, which is really just stunning. It's very has a very durable, solid feel to it, though can be somewhat slippery, and feels very comfortable in the hand. The size in my opinion is perfect, compact and sleek, and though this means smaller screen size and somewhat cramped keys, it's really my favorite aspect of the phone. Has the old, comfortable handset feel of a Nokia candybar phone, actually. Sony really put a lot of thought and effort into it, and it shows.
-Other features: The 3.5mm headphone jack is WONDERFUL. I had a Sony a few years back, and the one sticking point that kept me from using it as a full-time MP3 player was the fact that I was supposed to use Sony's headphones. The fact that Sony has branched out, and incorporated the headphone jack, along with the capabilities for a Micro SD card slot (located on the side, when you remove the back cover), really shows that they're creating a platform which is more friendly to users who branch between companies. (Sony usually has their own M2 storage card, which is more pricey than the Micro SD.) Whether it lasts or not depends on their continued association with HTC, I suppose, who designed and helped create the physical phone. I suspect that if they next phone doesn't run Windows Mobile (which has been rumored), those features might disappear. Oh well. The fact that they're included on the Xperia is really a very nice, convenient touch. The phone also connected with the network very easily, loaded all the information, and formatted the phone, without any heavy programming from me, which was awesome.
Overall? Fantastic phone, with very reliable software, convenient system, sleek and sturdy construction, speedy network connections (even overseas), and plenty of opportunities for personal tweaks and modifications, given the open platform from Windows. I'd love to give it five stars, instead of the four, but the price was ridiculous, especially considering that it's really just another Windows Mobile smartphone, albeit better-looking and more personal than some others. Still, it's without a doubt my favorite phone to date, when combining the ease of use and construction appeal. Well worth buying, if you can burn the money.

So I'm reading some reviews on the Treo 750 and it seems all the negative reviews are by people who are completely incompetent with technology and using Google. Let me first warn anyone who is technologically handicapped, do not buy this phone. You will get lost in all the OPTIONS, that are available within the phone.
On with my review:
Windows Mobile can do basically everything you want, just not in the prettiest manners. Upon receiving my Treo 750, it came with Windows Mobile 6. It worked well but had some slight bugs, so I upgraded to 6.1 which also has bugs but none that bother me. 6.1 is definitely snappier than the bundled version of windows mobile 6. You WILL NOT find the upgrade on Palm's Website, you'll need to Google this.
Call Quality: 8/10
Calls are crisp and clear. I have no problems hearing the other person in a busy street, and they have no problems hearing me. Although the speaker phone is slightly distorted at higher volume.
Battery Life: 8/10
Windows mobile devices and any other smart phone/pda (ie. Iphone, Blackberry) are known to have battery life that doesn't last. This is because of the processing power in these devices. The Treo has a 312mhz processor. My first Pentium II computer had a 300mhz processor. Seriously, what do you expect? My experience with the treo is that it will last me an entire day with heavy usage, but when I have it on standby (meaning not using it for anything) the battery last for at least 2 to 3 days.
Overall Design: 7/10
It's a little thick but this phone came out in Dec 2007, so it's not surprising. The curves on the side make it feel thinner than it really is and makes the phone feel very nice in your hand. The rubbery feel of the body is nice, and not slippery. The small keys take getting use to, but once you do, you type extremely fast. The screen is nice, bright, and big, but I wish it was at least 320x320 instead of 240x240.
Usability: 8/10
Windows Mobile is a powerful operating system, there are programs to do basically anything, but it isn't all in one place like you have it on the Android phones or Iphone. There are thousands of free programs and others are paid. I personally don't need any programs that you need to pay for.
Cons:
- Windows Media player will absolutely not goto the next song in the play list unless you have the ringer set to on instead of vibrate.
- In 6.1, the screen is still enabled when you press the power button to view the time while in locked mode.
-Interface isn't fun to look at.
-Lacks wi-fi
Conclusion:
I'm waiting for version 6.5 and 7 of windows mobile to come out which drastically changes the way Windows Mobile looks and also includes a app store. If you can get this phone for under $200, i would say do it. If you like to text message, the threaded sms is great. Few bugs in the OS but doesn't affect the overall usage. And the amount of software available for windows mobile is overwhelming.
