Palm Pixi Plus Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

Palm Pixi Plus Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this phone. It's operating system is very intuitive and smooth. Also, the small size lends it a cuteness factor that is too hard to resist. Even though the keyboard is extremely petite I find it very easy to type fast and accurately. People have been commenting that the Pixi Plus is slower than the Pre Plus. I've played with both devices while in the Verizon store and while the Pixi is a tad bit slower it is still fast enough. The lag time is about 10 seconds or less. That is nothing; still super fast to me. This Verizon edition has Wifi, which is lacking in the Sprint model. Nice. From what I read the addition of Wifi should help ease the strain on the horrible battery.
Con:
Battery life. Even though I changed some of the settings to increase battery life I am finding that it still sucks. Even when it is just sitting in my purse the battery drains. So, basically you will only be able to get about a day's worth of a charge on this phone and that is with changing the settings such as decreasing the brightness of the screen, turning off the GPS, etc.. Depending on usage, you will find yourself charging it twice a day. Since I really do love this phone I will just have to put up with the battery and take full advantage of my AC adapter as well as my Touchstone. With this battery a car charger would be a good investment as well.
Pros: Everything else.
Three weeks later: I find myself more satisfied with the battery life. Manually changing the above mentioned settings on this phone does make a difference. It does not constantly drain from inactivity as it did before and even though I still have to charge it by the end of the day at least I get a full day's use out of it before I have to.
I also understand that Palm will be providing a wireless update for both the Pre Plus and Pix Plus that will give it the ability to record video. I remember reading that somewhere. I will check back and update my review when (if) this happens.
Ok. According to @Palm on Twitter a Sprint video recording update will be happening real soon. Alright, hurry up with the Verizon update all ready.
Downloading VZW's Web OS 1.4 now. Now I will be able to capture video, upload it on youtube, etc. Plus, according to Palm this update will enhance battery life. Yes!!!!!
Fully charged it last night (Sun) and battery life is at 74% the next night (Mon). That's awesome!
So, it's been close to weeks since I've downloaded the VZW's Web OS 1.4 upgrade and the phone is performing excellently. The speed of the processor has picked up a bit. Also, the upgrade makes the indicator light flash whenever you get an email, text, etc. So, no more having to hit the power button just to see if there are any alert icons on your screen. Thanks Palm so much for the upgrade!

In addition to high-speed connectivity on the fast and reliable Verizon Wireless 3G network, the phone's memory has been doubled to 8 GB and it comes with a built-in 3G Mobile Hotspot that can be shared via Wi-Fi among five devices--laptop, another phone, MP3 player, and more.
The phone's full QWERTY keyboard puts it all at your fingertips, and the multi-touch screen lets you move back and forth between open applications using natural gestures. The unique removable back cover is rubberized, making it scratch-resistant, slip-resistant and durable. T-Mobile myTouch 3G Phone with Google, Black (T-Mobile) Review

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Phone with Google, Black (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a Blackberry person for years and finally caved in and purchased this so I could finally have 3G (which put my non-3G Blackberry's to shame). T-Mo is a little behind the times and is now finally catching up with cool phones and more 3G, and this phone is a really good start to a future of great phones from them. I personally love it.
First of all, this phone is sleek. The styling is really nice and sexy. It could use a chrome band but that is just me being picky. Even the charger is cool (except the darn blue light is horrid at night--I had to put tape over it so I could sleep!).
Second, this phone is feature-rich and easy to use. Blackberries are a nightmare to do anything on (especially change the blasted ring-tones). This phone however, is a cinch to do everything. The menus are user friendly and simple.
This phone is fast. It does bog down at times but can be fixed with the free app "task killer free edition". Everything loads fast and runs smoothly. I downloaded about 7 things at once while listening to a song and playing a game. This phone is a pro at multi-tasking.
This phone is fun. I love the fact that Google Android allows ad's on their apps so the majority can be free. Some may hate the ad's but those people can buy the ad-less versions for a fee and those cheap people like myself will deal with the banner ad. It is brilliance. The app store is not as good at Apple's but is darn close. It definitely puts BB app store to shame. The beauty of the Android store is that you can buy an app, hate it and un-install it within 24 hours for a FULL refund!! WOW!
This phone is the best T-Mobile has, though not the best out there. It really is a good value too considering all the great apps and the fact that TMO has low prices in comparison to ATT and VZ. Make sure to purchase this phone WITHOUT a contract and pay for monthly installments on the phone with the even more plus plans. It will pay for itself in the 14th month and begin to save you $20 per month after that because the even more plus plans are much cheaper than the even more ones.
PROS:
TMO's best (as of 12/18/09)
Sexy
Fast
Google (remember, it has free navigation now!!)
Fun
Cons:
Freezes up frequently unless you use task killer
Not enough chrome
No trackpad, just trackball
No pinch zoom
Screen not responsive enough
The darn charger has a nightlight! It is cool when you AREN'T trying to sleep!
REMEMBER: T-Mobile will ALWAYS waive your activation/upgrade fee if you ask and give you at least ONE free month of service if you are considering to switch to another carrier. Be sure to upgrade through the customer service number, you will have the best luck getting discounts. HAGGLING IS KEY!!!
Again, Even More Plus plans are $20 for the internet and $10 less for each anytime minutes tier, Even more are $30 and $10 MORE. You will save $20 per month by not signing a contract and paying full price for the phone by signing up for even more PLUS plans. Do your calculations and realize it will be cheaper to pay full price in the long run and begin to save you hundreds (they even have a monthly installment plan for their phones). GOOD LUCK ON PHONE SHOPPING!!

Motorola Ming A1200 Unlocked Phone with 2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Black) Review

Motorola Ming A1200 Unlocked Phone with 2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this phone in China early March 2006. It was just on market for a week or so. I intended to buy a Microsoft Smartphone kind of device, but came upon this phone. The things that attracted me was the near perfect finish (black version only, feel like the early IBM Thinkpad T23 skin-like touch), the fast response, large screen, transparent screen cover and a unique feature: Business Card Reader(BCR).
The BCR take a snapshot of a business card, automatically recognize the information and input into contact list. The character recognition is not 100% if the business card design is too fancy. If the card is standard, with regular characters, the recognition result will be very accurate. It saves lots of time when you finish the job in a long day and rest in hotel room. Remember, you have to set the lens switch to Macro position, otherwise the card photo it takes will be blury and recognition is impossible. The switch is above the lens, very easy to miss.
Other features include the radio, recorder, bluetooth, Real Player, voice command, notes, 2.0 MP camera and camcorder.
Writing recognition is also very accurate. I write in Chinese and English. Both are very easy to use. Overall, the software are great.
It comes with other features such as getting online but I don't use them. You can add Transflash card inside. As of May 2006, the largest card size is 512MB for $70.
I don't think I digged all the goodies out, still in the fun process learning how to use it more wisely. Overall, it is a great phone, better than any other phone I ever used.

Need one gadget to do it all? The Motorola A1200 "Ming" phone is the answer. This Linux-powered PDA phone sports a 2-megapixel camera, a huge display, quad band support, plus all the bells and whistles you'd expect on a high-end handset, including Bluetooth, a music player, a document reader, and much more. And when you want to get down to business, there's even a business card reader for rapidly capturing contact info.
Design The first thing you'll notice about the Ming is that its design is definitely groundbreaking. While the transparent cover might look cool, it also serves a purpose, as the phone's speaker is cleverly embedded in the cover. Flip the phone open and you're greeted by a huge 2.4-inch touchscreen that sports 240 x 320 resolution and support for 262,000 colors. There's also an included stylus so you can control the unit's onscreen menus and functions. And speaking of menus and functions, the Ming's operating system offers an easy-to-use, Linux-based interface that makes navigating between entertainment, contact, document and other functions a breeze. You'll also find two control buttons, as well as a navigation joystick, below the display.
The Ming also supports MicroSD card expandability, which allows you to add up to 1 GB of extra storage to the device -- plenty of room for games, movies, and documents. There's a standard 2.5 mm headset jack, and a built-in mini-USB connector makes it easy to connect the Ming to your computer or other devices. Bluetooth wireless technology lets talk freely on a wireless headset or sync up seamlessly with your PC and other compatible Bluetooth devices. You can even print your favorite pictures wirelessly with the Ming's Bluetooth printing capability.
Calling Features The Ming has all the latest calling features folks have come to expect from a high-end handset. The built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. As mentioned, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible. Plus, you can connect a stereo Bluetooth wireless headset and listen to your favorite music without any wires. Meanwhile, the ringer and picture ID system makes it easy to identify your most common callers. And last but not least, a vibrate mode allows you to receive calls in silence.
Messaging, Internet, and PDA Tools The Ming covers the messaging bases with support for text and MMS messaging, as well as IM-based communications with MSN Messenger. There's also a complete email client that allows you to receive and view PDF, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint attachments. The email client supports POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP protocols. An integrated browser lets you view complete HTML pages or surf the wireless Web via WAP 2.0.
On the PDA front, the Ming comes with a powerful calendar and contacts system that makes it easy to stay in touch with your important contacts while organizing your schedule. And because the Ming supports the SyncML synchronization standard, you can easily sync your PC-based contacts and schedule with the Ming's personal information management system. Other tools include an integrated business card scanner, a calculator, an alarm, a voice memo recorder, and a to-do list. You can use the Ming's advanced handwriting recognition to quickly and accurately enter information.
Entertainment The Ming's 2-megapixel camera features a macro mode for getting great closeups. You can also capture video clips; capture length is limited to a staggering two hours. Use the built-in RealPlayer application to view your videos, as well as videos you've got stored on a memory card. The integrated music player supports MP3, WAV, AMR, WMA, and AAC+ digital music formats. There's also a stereo FM radio.
If you're into mobile gaming, the Ming has you covered there, too. The phone ships with one game, Extreme Air Snowboarding.
Vital Statistics The Motorola A1200 Ming weighs 4.30 ounces and measures 3.77 x 2.04 x .85 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 7.4 hours of digital talk time, and up to 170 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies.

UTStarcom XV6800 - Smartphone - CDMA2000 1X - touch / slide-out keyboard - Windows Mobile - Verizon Review

UTStarcom XV6800 - Smartphone - CDMA2000 1X - touch / slide-out keyboard - Windows Mobile - Verizon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You can find a great phone or a great PDA, but combine them and even the best smartphone will fall short in some respect. Understanding which tradeoffs fit your profile is the key. You will appreciate the XV-6800 if you: 1.) Have ever been called a nerd; 2.) value an endlessly customizable productivity and entertainment gadget; and, 3.) can live with okay-not-great phone functionality. On the other hand, if you are a power phone user (and/or prefer a simple interface to one with exposed complexity), you may find a simpler cell phone a better choice.
A WORD ABOUT THICKNESS
There's a widely-accepted myth that phones with slide-out keyboards are thick because of, well, the keyboard. It's not true. Like cell phone screens, they're wafer-thin: It's the battery (typically located beneath the keys) that's to blame. Because consumers comparison shop for long talk/standby time and power-draining features (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth), hefty batteries are a necessary evil.
The XV-6800 is a case in point. At about the size of an elongated Altoids tin, and weighing 5.8 ounces, it is objectively neither large nor heavy. Yet at 1.2 ounces per cubic inch of volume, pick it up and "solid" comes to mind. It's like the old trick question, "Which weighs more: a pound of feathers, or a pound of iron?" Anyway, something to keep in mind about weight and form factor.
AS A CELL PHONE
Strictly as a cell phone, the XV-6800 is competent. Reception is good, especially given the internal antenna. Voice quality is okay; speakerphone volume could be better. Power phone users may prefer a device with real (not graphical) keys; getting the keypad screen back on to input numbers or navigate phone trees is often an extra step. After the voice speed dial function kept popping up for no apparent reason, I disabled it.
SCREEN
The QVGA (320x240 pixel) touch screen is bright (adjustable in 10 increments), with good contrast, and rich color. At 2.8 inches, there's less "screen door" effect than with larger QVGA screens. Web pages render well, and even the tiny text found on non-mobile optimized web pages is quite readable.
KEYBOARD
About a second after the back-lit QWERTY keyboard clicks open, the screen switches from portrait to landscape viewing mode. Keystrokes offer positive tactile feedback and a muted click to let you know you typed a letter. After a couple of minutes getting used to the function key, you will find yourself thumb-typing away. If you simply can't deal with tiny keyboards, you can always summon the familiar graphical keyboard and hunt-and-peck using the stow-away collapsible stylus.
OPERATING SYSTEM & SOFTWARE
The phone ships with Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system (OS) and Windows Mobile 6 Professional. The OS is stable and seems more crash-free than previous versions, and is helped by the device's abundant memory. Included are pleasantly usable mobile versions of Adobe Reader, Excel, Word (intuitive, with lots of formatting options), and PowerPoint. The Internet Explorer Mobile browser works well (there is a handy launch button top right on front), with websites downloading quickly where the Verizon EV/DO data network is available.
Before considering this device a laptop replacement, though, see if creating spreadsheets and composing documents on a 2.8-inch screen is an appealing idea for you. I don't mind it, but if you are moving toward reading glasses and large text, you may be happier knowing they're there to read email attachments.
RANDOM SETUP TIP
After extensive troubleshooting and re-installs, the device was still not recognized by my PC. Here's what worked: Start > Settings > Connections tab > USB to PC. I then un-checked "Enable advanced network functionality." If it doesn't do the trick, you can re-enable it and move on.
CAMERA
The two megapixel (1600 x 1200) camera takes pretty good pictures. The many edge-of-screen icons suggest daunting complexity, but they are actually an advantage because you won't have to navigate through pages of menus just to check settings. There is slight shutter delay (this is won't replace a serious camera), but for a smartphone, it's better than you would expect. One other note: What looks like an exposed lens is actually a clear and fairly hard lens cover. It is slightly recessed and seems unlikely to scratch.
CONCLUSION
Overall, the XV-6800 is a powerful, flexible, configurable device that will be more rewarding for a tech-savvy user than for someone who thinks of it as "a cell phone with extras."

Leave the laptop behind and stay connected and productive wherever you roam with the XV6800 Smartphone, the newest Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition device from Verizon. It features an extra-large, 2.8-inch touchscreen as well as a surprise waiting up its sleeve: just slide the top of the phone sideways to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. And the new Windows Mobile 6 operating system enables you to view and edit Word and Excel documents as well as provides instant message capabilities via Windows Live Messenger. (See more details about Windows Mobile 6 below.) The included Outlook Mobile software offers up-to-date e-mail, calendar and contact information.
It operates on Verizon's North American CDMA voice network, as well as on Verizon's speedy EV-DO data network, which enables you to quickly access audio, video and data applications as well as connect directly to your office's network. You'll be productive wherever you roam thanks to the integrated Wi-Fi connectivity for use at wireless hotspots and access to Verizon's BroadbandAccess Connect service (which lets you use your phone as a modem to your laptop; subscription required). Other features include built-in Bluetooth connectivity (for headsets and stereo headphones), 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, and MicroSD memory card expansion.
Verizon Service With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, you'll enjoy fast access to the Internet and Verizon's multimedia services (additional charges applicable), with average download speeds ranging from 400 to 700 Kbps and peak rates up to 2 Mbps. (Learn more about where EV-DO coverage is offered.)
With BroadbandAccess Connect (subscription required), you can use your smartphone as a modem for your notebook when you connect the two using a USB cable--or open a Bluetooth connection--enabling you to access the Internet or your company intranet. The tethered modem capability is ideal when you're traveling and need to use your notebook to check email, access corporate networks, or download large files like presentations and reports. And with BroadbandAccess Connect, you won't have to buy an extra PC Card or other devices.
Verizon's Wireless Sync always-on email service (subscription required), you can stay connected and get the job done while away from the office--without a delay and in a secure environment. Email is delivered to your device in real time across the National Enhanced Services Rate & Coverage Area, and you get the ability to forward large attachments via email as well as access both your personal and corporate emails on one device. Wireless Sync offers strong security with AES encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard) technology so that unauthorized parties cannot access or alter application data transmitted over wireless networks.
Phone Features The sliding keyboard provides a familiar interface and allows for quick and efficient input of information, and the slide-to-hide form factor eliminates bulkiness for a sleek and stylish design. It measures just 0.73 inches thin and weighs a svelte 5.8 ounces. The 2.8-inch color touchscreen transreflective TFT screen automatically orients itself depending on how you hold the phone (i.e., from portrait to landscape and back again). It displays 65,000 colors and has a 320 x 240-pixel resolution.
In addition to supporting EV-DO wireless broadband networking, the Mogul also features Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), which enables you to use open wireless networks at airports and coffee shops. This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server--using Sprint's Mobile Broadband Network. And when connected to a Bluetooth headset, caller information for incoming calls will be spoken through the Bluetooth device. Decide to answer the call without ever looking at your phone.
The 2-megapixel autofocus camera (with up to 8x digital zoom) on the back of the Mogul captures images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels (good enough for prints up to 8 x 10 inches). You can make such camera adjustments as white balance and exposure metering, choose from resolution modes (such as sports for fast-moving action) as well as use of the integrated flash, and set a self-timer of either 2 or 10 seconds. Additionally, the Wing can capture video with or without audio (in MPEG-4, 3GPP2, or H.263 format, the latter being best for sending via MMS). You can also play back audio and video files downloaded from the Internet or sent to you via email using the integrated Windows Media Player.
Other features include:
Included memory: 256 MB ROM (163 MB user accessible); 64 MB RAM (49 MB user accessible)
Instantly send and receive SMS Text Messages across the room or across the country.
Updated ActiveSync technology (version 4.5) offers one of the best PC to mobile device sync experiences, making it easier to configure with faster data transfer and sync accuracy.

Stereo headset jack for handsfree operation and music enjoyment.

PCS Phone Palm Treo 650 (Sprint) Review

PCS Phone Palm Treo 650 (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would be encouraged to give this 5 stars, but the high price and lack of certain features takes it to a 4. (Really 4.5, but you can't award 4.5.)
What I like the most:
The integration of wireless web, text paging, email, games, camera, and various other software is superb.
The camera takes pretty impressive photos for a phone, and the lighting is wonderful.
The resolution on the Web is absolutely wonderful! It's like having a small laptop. I can pull up the GA navigator site and see traffic in real time, get very detailed maps, it is far better than I would expect.
Built in MP3 player, built in video player, ease of use of SD card, sensitivity of the touch screen, ease of navigation with the shuttle button, it all makes this phone a wonder.
There really is so much more that I love, but you don't want to read a book. :-)
What I don't like:
No built in voice dialing! To me, for a 600$ phone, that is absolutely unacceptable, and was almost a deal breaker. I had been accustomed to having built in dialing on all of my previous Sprint PCS phones. The Voicedial program does work after the trial period by direct number calling, which is some salvation, but I still think having to pay an extra 25$ for the software is rediculous.
The video camera is awesome, except that it seems to cut off and stop recording, without telling you, after 60-90 seconds. I may have over looked that in the book, or perhaps because I was trying to record to my SD card, but as a result, i missed out recording an important event. (The phone appeared to be recording, but when you stopped, it didn't save.)
The accompanying ear piece is crap. Why did they even bother. And no stereo headset adapter? Come on, it is a 6$ purchase, should have been thrown in.
The speaker phone is an embarrassement, unless you want to only listen. Even with the 1.08 upgrade, the sound is hollow, it is not full-duplex, and if you don't talk into it after some time, it stops responding.
No bluetooth 2 support???!
The reset button behind the battery compartment. What user experience group did they get for this? Of course, I guess they just assumed that nobody would ever have to reset it. ;-) But seriously, that is insane. I am on my second skin case now because they get stretched out when you have to keep taking them off to reset. (Which I only have to do maybe once every 2 weeks.)
The bottom line, if you have the money to spare, this is a dynamite phone. Even with the things that I don't like, I would buy this phone again. I know it gets some bad marks because of resets and such. But, I think the majority of that is from newbie users who don't read about it. I frequent two forums often and have been sure to read about problems with software and such. I believe that most of the problems people experience are due to installing many programs that are not compatible. Even Winblows will crash on you in those scenarios.
If you need a one-for-all device, this is for you. It sure beats carrying a cell phone, pda, mp3 player, and digital camera. One more thing, Sprint, if you are listening, increase your text paging allocation! My pages always cut off due to character limitations.

The PalmOne Treo 650 boasts all the legendary features of the venerable Treo 600, plus a whole lot more. Now with Bluetooth, a higher resolution screen, a removable battery, and an improved keyboard, the Treo 650 is once again on the cutting edge of Smartphone technology. It offers all the functionality of a high-end Palm OS-powered PDA, a cell phone and a VGA camera. Simply put, it's the ultimate mobile office companion.
Design Under the hood, the Treo 650 features Palm OS 5.4, 32MB of RAM (23MB available for end user storage), and an Intel PXA270 312 MHz processor. The design retains the same popular form factor as the Treo 600 with a few subtle, yet significant, changes. The unit's screen has been dramatically enhanced to support 320 x 320 resolution and the full QWERTY keypad has been redesigned for greater ease of use. The top of the unit features an expansion card slot for SD and MMC-based memory and expansion cards. There's also an infrared port here for line of sight data transfers, as well as a handy switch for turning off the phone's ringer. A five-way navigator controls most of the phone's menus and operating system functions, while quick application buttons on either side of the navigator get you to your favorite applications in a snap. The left side of the unit features a volume up/down toggle plus a handy user-customizable button that can be assigned to any phone or PDA function. The rear of the Treo 650 houses a loudspeaker, as well as the VGA (640x480) camera unit. A touchscreen stylus can be tucked away on the right side of the phone. Meanwhile, a combined charging, data, and accessory attachment port is housed on the bottom of the unit, as is a standard 2.5 mm stereo headset jack.
Calling and PDA Features All the of the Treo 650's phone and PDA functions are designed to provide an integrated, seamless experience. For instance, you can type in the name or initials of a contact on the keypad to dial them. Or, use the touchscreen and stylus to copy information from an email and quickly paste it into another email or text message. All of the latest phone features folks expect are built-in, too, like a handsfree speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones, a vibrate mode and picture caller ID. The capacity of the unit's address book is only limited by the amount of internal and expansion memory available. Use the Treo 650's Bluetooth capability to wirelessly sync your contacts with your PC or Mac (yes, Mac!). Headsets, car kits and other wireless peripherals can also be paired with the unit via Bluetooth.
The Treo 650 is also a fully functional Palm OS device. That means that a huge library of applications, from spreadsheets to word processors to games, can be added to the Treo 650. It's easy to perform multiple tasks like checking your calendar while talking on the phone or dialing calls directly from your contacts list. Familiar Palm OS software ships with the handset including calendar, calculator, clock, contacts, memo, and task management applications. Real Player for video and MP3 playback, VersaMail email client, and DataViz Documents to Go for mobile access to spreadsheets and text documents, are also included.
The unit's memory expansion slot allows you to transfer music, photos, and video from your desktop. Or, use it to load additional games and applications.
Messaging and Internet The device fully supports SMS and MMS messaging for rapid exchange of pictures, text and video via Sprint's instant messaging system. Other Sprint PCS Vision services are also supported, such as mobile email, web browsing and instant messaging. Sprint's PCS Business Connection service, which is fully compatible with the Treo 650, gives you secure, remote, real-time access to Microsoft Outlook Exchange-- including email messages and attachments, calendar, business directory and personal contacts. You can also respond to meeting requests, access documents stored on your desktop PC, and view email from POP3 and IMAP4-based email accounts, including Sprint PCS Mail, Yahoo!, Earthlink and more.
Imaging and Entertainment The Treo 650's built-in camera features a 2x zoom, a flash and a self portrait mirror. While the camera is great for taking stills, it can also function as a camcorder, allowing you to capture MPEG4 video to the unit's memory. The device ships with two games, Zap! 2016 and Handmark Solitaire, and many more Palm-based games are available. As mentioned, the device ships with Real Player, so you can use your Treo 650 as a portable MP3 and video player. Keep your tunes loaded on a memory card and you're ready to go with stereo sound wherever you roam.
Vital Statistics The PalmOne Treo 650 weighs 6.30 ounces and measures 4.40 x 2.30 x .90 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 300 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the CDMA 800/CDMA 1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.
What's in the Box Treo 650 handset, lithium-ion battery, USB HotSync cable, headset, AC charger, user manual, software CD-ROM.

Samsung Intrepid SPH-i350 Windows Phone (Sprint) Review

Samsung Intrepid SPH-i350 Windows Phone (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this phone directly from Sprint PCS. It's a CDMA/GSM with Windows CE 2.0 and MS Mobile Office 2007.
It's very easy to click on icons unintentionally, because the target area must be larger than the icon, like when
you are trying to scroll up or down using the included stylus on the touch screen.
The phone comes with ALOT of bloatware for Sprint, like the following apps and features, mostly Sprint:
1. Sprint NASCAR
2. Sprint NFL
3. Sprint TV
4. Sprint Navigation
5. Sprint Music Store
6. Sprint Software Store
7. Games
8. IM
9. Messenger
10.MSN Money
11.MSN Weather
12.YouTube
13.Google
14.TellMe
15.Worldclock
16.Stopwatch
17.Tip Calculator
18.Anniversary
Trying to remove this junk is all but impossible except at a special Sprint Store or Service Center that has the
software to do so. I synched the device with my HP ProBook 4510s w/Office Enterprise 2007 without any problem. I
could install any documents, photos, and other files, including programs onto the Kingston SDC4/16GB MicroSDHC
I bought on Amazon (UPC 740617173741) a Class 4 card with MicroSD Adapter, which works 100% with this device.
The small keyboard with dark red symbol legends on the keytops is hard to read, and using the FN key is required
for each symbol before entry, except for the white legend symbols like letters. Although a QWERTY style keyboard
it is not that easy to use unless you are adept at using PDA type devices, which I'm not. This was my first and
only purchase of this type. Dialing requires opening the DTMF dial keypad on the touch screen for manual dialing
and DTMF entry.
It does have WiFi and you can use Skype. This requires Skype for Mobile, and access to some kind of wireless net-
work you can log into for service. On Long Island this would be Cablevision Optimum WiFi, available in many areas
especially LIRR train stations. You can also use it with any private wireless network like your home router or in
places like Borders, Starbucks, etc. though there might be a fee nowadays. Unfortunately for me Sprint service in
my home area leaves alot to be desired. The transceiver in this device is not the best either. The Qualcomm CDMA
in my Sanyo SCP-7050 is much better, giving me 2 bars inside the house. The Samsung Intrepid gives me one or none
at all, and disconnects my calls. That is Sprint's and Samsung's fault, for poor coverage by Sprint, and inferior
radio transceiver in the Intrepid by Samsung, respectively. Lucky for me Sprint cancelled my contract without any
penalty, because I was past the 30 day guarantee period to return the device, no questions asked. Now I want to
sell this phone. Contact me using Amazon on my seller profile to buy this phone like new with all accessories. If
you want maybe I'll include the Kingston MicroSD card if you're serious and the offer is acceptable. This will re-
quire activation and programming at a Sprint Store or Service Center to connect the phone and get you going with
it. Right now it is locked out.
This phone would fare better in a decent coverage area for starters. Sprint should make it easy to remove any apps
you don't want, instead of making you go to their store or service center and being given a hassle, or even charge
to do so. There are many much better apps available for the Windows Mobile 6.5 this device comes with. This is the
last of its kind, now that Windows Phone 7 is out there, and apps will be limited for awhile, because any previous
apps are incompatible with Windows Mobile 7 phones.

The best about this phone is dual card slots, GPS, flip cover, and keypad. Most new GPS phones in the market now doesnt support SDIO SD card slot, they only support mini SD. Therefore this hw6515 has a great advantage over all other PDA phone. Wifi can be added with the new Spectec mini SD wifi card, which will save you the SDIO slot for adding extra storage (up to 4GB) or SDIO devices such as radio, scanner, etc.
The bad things about this phone are no wifi, 240x240 screen, and poor battery life (compare to other PDA phone, although hp released a extended battery of 1800mAh, the standard 1200mAh only support you about 1-2 days).
Quad band and GPS that makes it special among many other PDA phone in market now. The maximum amount of external memory can be added is 6GB (4GB SD and 2GB mini SD)

I would change my rating of this phone to a 3 or 2 - read my review to find out why.
Day 1:
================================
I have only had this phone for just under 24 hours. So far I have a positive opinion of it.
1. Reception:
Appears to be very good.
2. Screen resolution:
Very good. Able to read small text easily.
3. Touch screen:
Very responsive when using fingers or the stylus. I sometimes need to press firmly to click through links or push accept on-screen buttons.
4. Navigation:
Scrolling is extremely responsive.
5. Phone mode:
Very good sound quality and people report hearing me well. I did hear a little bit of static when speaking to someone, but that may have been on their end.
6. Speaker phone:
Works well. Tried having a conversation with my brother who has an iPhone and had difficulty hearing him while driving in my car. This is probably due to the background road noise and due to the iPhone's poor sound quality (he tried using the iphone as a speaker phone, hand-held, and with a headset).
7. Camera:
Have taken one picture in a poorly lit room, and it came out reasonably well. Good enough to create profile pictures and take occasional pictures.
8. Internet connection:
Very fast. Getting 800k down and 350k up.
9. Included web browser:
Very fast. Loads pages much faster than the 755p or even the iphone. This is probably due to the much faster EVDO rev-A connection and faster processor and sufficient RAM.
10. Weight:
Reasonable.
11. Build:
Feels sturdy in the hand and easy to hold.
12. Interface:
Relatively easy to scroll and move around the screen and accept/select options. Sometimes, I feel I need to use the stylus to move the page around or to select items, and this will get easier with practice.
Day 15:
==================================================
Update:
After having this phone for 2 weeks, I have the following complaints:
Battery life is pathetic. Even with screen lightly lit (3rd bar from lowest), bluetooth off, wifi off, and email synchronization off, the phone's battery life drains quickly upon use for browsing the web or checking directions, or talking on the phone.
Windows mobile was not designed for touch screens. It is hard to move pages around (you need to use the directional button), and it jumps from page to page, so if you don't read the last light of page one, when you press down, you can't see that previous line.
The buttons do not really make sense when compared to the palm version. You need to hit the green talk button to get to the home screen (or hit "ok" a bunch of times). Similarly, to add a contact, or to check call history, you need to navigate through screens, which makes it annoying, confusing, and slow to get to previous callers. When you type in a persons name, and want to "edit or view all their contact info", if you accidentally, hit the middle directional button when highlighting the person's name, it immediately begins to call them, and the windows lag prevents you from canceling the call before it goes through.
Speaker phone and regular speaker (even with the included headset) are pathetic. Unable to use speaker phone while driving as it is not loud enough and when you do turn it up it over-attenuates (blares) causing me to be unable to understand the other person. Similarly, the other person has trouble understanding me.
Voice quality when holding phone normally, is good, though not as good as my previous Sanyo 4920, and the voice quality (earpiece) definitely has static and the max volume is sometimes not enough.
Touch screen can be responsive, and I tried using Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta which sort of works like the Iphone touch interface. However, trying to select links is hard, I generally need to angle my fingernail or use the stylus and poke at the screen repetitively to get it to work.
The phone does have great bandwidth capability, I clocked it at around 1.2 MBit download and around 600 KB upload which is great.
Bottom Line
================================================
I don't recommend this phone for most users, as you will get frustrated with the interface and the battery life.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned a Treo 650 on and off and on again since this model came out. Initially, I was extremely frustrated by the phone's telephone performance and its lack of stability. Frequent reboots, freezes and dropped calls made it difficult to appreciate the phone. I ended up getting rid of it and relying on a separate palm and cell phone. Over time, PalmOne has released firmware updates (the phone's operating system) that have made the phone very stable. The improvements we so significant that they actually won me back. This review is for the GSM Treo 650.
A word about Carriers: I only use GSM because I travel abroad frequently - this limits me to Cingular and Tmobile. I have used both, and I have found that Cingular's network coverage is more complete, especially in rural areas, but Tmobile's network sounds better. It's a tradeoff - with Tmobile, you'll drop the call more often, but with Cingular you'll say "what?" more often. Their coverage is about equal in big cities and along major highways. International roaming is less expensive with Tmobile, plus Cingular has a few hurdles in place that prevent you from enabling international roaming on your account if you've been with them for less than 6 months. Verizon and Sprint use a cellular technology that is US-only, and therefore no good for using your phone abroad.
Here are the phone's pros: in your pocket, you have your address book, datebook, notes, e-mail, low-res still and video camera, a very nice sms interface that threads sms exchanges by contact, a web browser, and an mp3 player. The QWERTY keyboard makes typing much faster than a standard phone. The interface is unique and you will need a little time to get used to it, but once you do you will be as efficient at quick-dialing and keeping up with daily use as on any other phone. Also, this phone is a quad-band GSM which means that it will work very well abroad, unlike the more common tri-band GSM phones, which don't perform as well. (Remember, if you get a Treo Smartphone from Verizon or Sprint, it will not work abroad.) The screen on the Palm version is brilliant. The Windows version is not as sharp - a limitation imposed by the operating system. Also, GSM technology uses "SIM" cards, which means you can simply change out the "SIM" and use your phone on another network or another phone number, either domestically or while abroad. (You might have a phone locked onto a carrier's network until your contract commitment is complete, but that's something you can sort out on your own).
Here are the phone's cons: I said "in your pocket" because if you mount this thing on your belt, the bulge may force you to make alterations on your sport jacket. Also, in an age of identity theft and information security, you should think long and hard about just how much information is in there. Believe me, the phone quickly becomes a place to store passwords, account information, customer information, etc. Consider how you will feel if you leave it in a restaurant, or if it's stolen.
Here are lesser cons that can be worked around: The beauty of these palm phones is that they're so popular; other people have had whatever problem you might encounter, and they've written software to address / fix / work around the issue. For example, I found that the phone's volume is not loud enough. There is 3rd party volume software to fix that, as well as software that allows you to use the phone as a Bluetooth modem for your computer. Some software is freeware, some is shareware, and some is for purchase. The key is that there are so many forums and resources on the Internet that you can search around and find the answers that you need, and the phone allows you to install and uninstall with as much ease as with your home PC.

Thoughts about newer Treo phones: The 650 now costs a little less because the Treo 700w and 700p have come out. This is a good thing, because I don't see the 700 having any new features that make the upgrade a "must". Other than a slightly redesigned appearance and interface, and higher resolution camera, the phone's features are basically identical. Also, as of the Summer 2006, the Treo 700 is only available on CDMA networks. The Treo folks have staggered the release of GSM and CDMA models to give the all carriers a turn at exclusivity.

Looking to the future, there is speculation that the next generation Treo phone will be a GSM, it will be thinner, lighter, and the antenna will be internal - basically, it will more resemble a blackberry on the outside. These are much sought after features by Treo users. Maybe I'll upgrade then.
In conclusion, only 4 stars for this phone because the product wasn't ready for market when they released it. It's much better now; if they had initially released the current product, I would have given it 5 stars. I hope my perspective helps you with your decision.
UPDATE - Jan 08, 2007: the Treo750 (windows mobile) has come out in the UK with Vodafone, and here in the USA, the Treo680 (Palm OS) has been announced with Cingular. In forums on the internet, people have reported that the new 680 addresses many wish-list items for the Treo faithful: slighly thinner (a modest few millimeters), internal antenna, better keyboard, volume-too-low issue "sort of" resolved, better mp3 player (pTunes instead of Real), more memory, improved phone interface, EDGE instead of GPRS to double the data speed. Unfortunately, the camera has the same resolution (640x480) and the few millimeters thinner have meant a thinner battery. Treo 680 owners complain of poor battery life (1 day or significantly less for power users).
As of Thanksgiving, every vendor pre-selling the Treo 680 was sold out (including Amazon). This tells me two things: many Treo users are looking to upgrade immediately by choice, not out of necessity. As a result, the market should be flooded with inexpensive used Treo650s, and no doubt merchants with 650 inventory will probably sell them inexpensively enough for people who have been priced out of the smartphone market to get their hands on one.
Palm says the 680 is targeted to the every day person, not the power user. I suppose that means in a year we should expect another more expensive model that will be what the 680 should have been. I feel that Palm is releasing new models in a very slow and calculated manner in order to drive consumer spending.
My recommendation: if you want a Treo, go with the 650. With an extended battery a power user (bluetooth, e-mail, etc.) can go 2 days between charges or 3 days with normal usage. Look for it online.

The smartphone market has become very crowded with the slim Motorola Q (windows), the comparably sized and feature-rich Nokia E61 (legendary stability of Symbian OS), friendlier and proven Blackberry models, the Samsung blackjack (windows), and lately the MDA (windows) is getting rave reviews with all the features you wish you could have, including Wi-Fi.
The Treo does a lot - it probably has the best SMS interface on the market, but the rest is just ok. For example, the mp3 player works, but not as good as a dedicated mp3 player like an iRiver or iPod. The e-mail application works, but the IMAP implementation is poor, and POP3 performance is inconsistent re: leaving or deleting messages from the server. If you want a good e-mail application on the Treo, you'll have to buy a 3rd party program that will be almost as good as the blackberry. But you will have to buy this app, and the more 3rd party apps you load, the less stable the device. What I'm saying is the Treo is a jack of many trades but it's a master of none (except SMS/MMS messaging.) While I am a Palm faithful, I'm afraid that if you want a *stable* phone, e-mail, address book and schedule, the blackberry is the way to go, but you won't have the bells and whistles (camera, mp3 player, 3rd party apps and touch screen) that come with a Treo. Yes, that means I now have a crackberry. It was a Xmas gift from a friend who was tired of hearing me complain about my Treo. Here is the bottom line: if you're getting this device as a business tool where missed calls or e-mails translate to lost money, get a blackberry. If you want a really cool phone with all the bells and whistles you can fathom and you like loading 3rd party applications and you like having a fun device to play with, then you will absolutely love the Treo.

To keep your smartphone's applications up to date, and to optimize the performance of your device, you may need to perform firmware and/or software updates just as you would on your PC. To learn more about updates for your device, please visit Palm's support site. Note that by clicking this link you will be leaving Amazon.com. The unlocked PalmOne Treo 650 boasts all the legendary features of the venerable Treo 600, plus a whole lot more.
Messaging and Internet The device fully supports SMS and MMS messaging for rapid exchange of pictures, text and video. You can even get mobile email and web browsing. The Treo 650's web browser supports full-size web pages, and you can enter secure pages with 128-bit SSL encryption. POP3 email accounts provided by SBC, BellSouth, Yahoo, Earthlink, Comcast and AT&T Worldnet are all compatible with the 650's email client application. IMAP and Exchange-based email systems are also supported, and you can view photos, HTML, Word, Excel and PowerPoint attachments.
Vital Statistics The PalmOne Treo 650 weighs 6.30 ounces and measures 4.40 x 2.30 x .90 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 6 hours of digital talk time, and up to 300 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 800/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.
