LG GW525 Calisto Quad-Band GSM Cell Phone with QWERTY Slider Keypad, Full Touch Display, 3 MP Camera --International Version with Warranty (Orange) Review

LG GW525 Calisto Quad-Band GSM Cell Phone with QWERTY Slider Keypad, Full Touch Display, 3 MP Camera --International Version with Warranty (Orange)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did manage to configure the GW525 with full Internet and MMS functions on the AT&T network. You'll find those at the end of this review. Amazon won't show the username for the AT&T network or the URL for MMS, but those are really easy to find on Google.
The LG GW525 is an interesting little phone in that it doesn't look like it should have the capabilities it has. There's a lot of stuff packed into such a small, cheap and ultimately kiddy looking phone, which gives it a quirky appeal. Unfortunately its features are bogged down by a sluggish interface and functionalites and lackluster UI design.
To compare the GW525 with similar phones like the Samsung Impression for instance, the Impression is a superior phone by far, mainly because of its functionality, intuitiveness and speed. But the GW525 has some things to offer if you're willing to put up with a few nuances.
Pros:
Flexible texting and multimedia features:
The GW525 has feature rich photo and video editors. You can even insert photos into your video and you can export video scenes as photos. And when I say rich I mean you can select videos and photos, drop them into the movie editor with a title, credits, color grading and transitions with a soundtrack. The photo editor is equally good. With enough light the camera takes awesome vivid photos. In low light photos are soft, flat and grainy. Although you can adjust the exposure setting.
Threaded text messages:
This feature is great for keeping track of text conversations. Layout and design is nice and this is one of the phone's best features.
POP3 and IMAP support out the box:
You're able to configure unlimited pop3 and imap accounts including native support for Microsoft Exchange.
Full Address Support:
This is one my biggest peeves for cell phones. My friends have physical homes not just cells and email. So I always look for address books that support home addresses, businesses and websites and fortunately the GW525 supports this and more with business info, web info and birthdays and anniversary settings that automatically ask you if you want these events transferred to your calendar.
Support for Google, gmail, Youtube and Blogger. I use blogger so it's a nice plus.
Document Support: you can view PDFs, Word files, Excel files and Power Point presentations though on the small screen it's a bit of a chore.
So what's the bad?
The touch interface is slow and sluggish with plenty of lag. It can take up to 5 seconds to access your photos, videos and music and it can take as long as 1-3 seconds for the touchscreen to respond to a swipe if you're browsing photos for example. Most of the time though the touch screen response is adequate.
Screen real estate at 2.8 inches is way too small for what the phone can do. Many icons are simply too small to manipulate to the point of needing a stylus to get any consistent accuracy. If you want to add a photo to a contact for example, it's very easy to select the wrong photo while scrolling through your library. Then you have to just start the process all over again. Trying to select the scroll bar on the side is also hit and miss without a stylus.
The browser is a complete disaster. It does not have a dedicated button to call up the hidden browser like on the Impression for example. Touching the screen calls up the browser. So if you want to click a link, you'll call up the browser instead. It took a dozen tries to select the profile link on Facebook. Also the browser will confuse you wanting to scroll around the screen with resizing the page. A simple drag to scroll around the page will instead render your text so tiny it's unreadable. It does allow for tabbed browsing so I guess it's not a complete disaster.
No G3. When you try to view HD videos on youtube this limitation will be very apparent as it chokes on the higher bandwidth. SD video works fine.
This is an unlocked (though not unbranded) cell phone so it's pretty stripped down in terms of software. I never thought I'd miss the stuff AT&T forces you to take, but some things like IM integration (AIM, Yahoo!, Windows Live) I did actually miss.
LiveSquare features Avatars for people who call and text you. They hang out on one of two backgrounds (you can add your own though) and you can interact with these avatars (human or animal) to call or text your friends back, access their contact listing, etc. There is a wide variety of avatar choices though they don't really change all that much. Honestly this is a very gimmicky feature that mainly kids would like, but it is kinda cool.
I like the feel of the keys. Where the keys on the Impression feel sorta soft and mushy the keys on the GW525 are firm and snappy.
Sound quality is ok for calls but the audio for music sounds awesome. No audio jack though that's always a bummer.
I like the feel of the back of the phone. It feels almost like wetsuit material. So if you manage to drop the GW525 in water I believe there's a really good chance it'll survive.
Overall it's a decent phone. If LG increases the screen size to 3.2, optimize the OS so you lose the lag and get G3 working and this would be an awesome phone.
Phone calls and text will work as soon as you put your sim in. But we've got some work to do to get all the other functions up and running. You'll need to manually configure the GW525 for Internet Access, Streaming Access, Java Apps, MMS, and email. Unfortunately these are scattered all over the place but not to worry this will guide you through and get the phone up and running in a few minutes on the AT&T Network.
Touch the main menu button (4 dots in the square) touch settings and connectivity.
First you need to configure your access, so click Access Points and input the following data:
Add Access Point
Name it whatever you want
Bearer: GPRS
Authentication: PAP
Username: [...] (all caps)
Password: CINGULAR1
APN: wap.cingular
That's all done. Now go to Internet Profiles
Title: Whatever you want.
Use Proxy: ON
Proxy server address: 66.209.11.32 (you probably won't be able to enter letters)
(type in 66.209.011.32 and go back to delete the zero in front of the 11.32)
Proxy server port: 80
Access Point: Select the Access Point you just configured and save.
Now let's get the MMS working.
Click Messaging
Scroll to the bottom and click Settings
Click Multimedia message
Scroll to the bottom and click Multi msg centre
Click Add centre
Name it whatever you want
MMSC URL: [...]
Internet profile: Select the Internet profile you configured
Now let's get streaming working or sites like youtube won't work.
Click Connectvity
Go to: Streaming settings
Change the UDP ports to their minimum and maximum.
Internet profile: Select the Internet profile you created
Save
One more to go for when you download an alternative browser and other java apps otherwise they won't work
Connectivity:
Java settings
Profiles
Add Profile
Name it
Select the Internet profile you created
Activate
Configuring your email is straight forward. Regular POP3 and IMAP settings.
Now you're good to go.

LG Arena GT950 Phone (AT&T) Review

LG Arena GT950 Phone (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First things first. The original LG Arena KM900 had Wifi. At&t, once again, has created a model specifically (GT950) to remove that feature. So if you want data, you're going to have to pay. Thanks AT&T.
Pros: Extremely beautiful screen, Flo TV works extremely well if you have decent reception, Good video performance (if you format the file correctly, multiple homescreens for different tasks. Built in FM transmitter.
Cons: Again no wifi, Screen is on the small side for an all touch phone (3 inches), If you've never used a virtual keyboard try in store first.
Besides the beautiful screen, there's really nothing to seperate this from any other feature phone on At&t's lineup. Overall the phone is solid, but doesn't really do anything spectacular.

Just Mobile AluPen Stylus, Black Review

Just Mobile AluPen Stylus, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have and use Pogo sketch, Targus, Griffin, a couple of generics and a Boxwave. I LOVE the boxwave and like the pogo for different things. I got this alupen to be able to talk about it and be able to know about as many of these things as I could. I figured being the rubber tipped style I could not go wrong. I was MORE than surprised by how much better this thing works. I don't know why and I don't care why. Even though it has the same tip as the griffin, targus and boxwave, it just IS more sensitive and works easier. I love this darn thing so much I'm getting more colors. EFFORTLESS on an iPad and while the apps for drawing on a Xoom suck, it even makes them feel better than they did with the other instruments. This pen is how a stylus should work.
Personal opinion on this is obviously subjective so note that this is as thick as a AA battery, 4 3/4 inches long (about as long as 2 and a half AA batteries on end.
It feels great in my hand and my girlfriend who has small hands says it feels more natural to her as well. It feels "significant".
It is not heavy as the descriptions may lead you to believe, heavy enough, but there's no "weight" to it that would seem cumbersome or hard to use. It feels as heavy as 2 AA batteries. (I know, I'm beating the battery thing to death).
Its so easy to use that "effortless" is all I keep coming up with when trying to define it. I have thus far used it to sketch, draw and write notes on Penultimate, Noteshelf, Draw!, Sketchbook Pro, , UPad and HW Mail. Results consistent.
I have NOT used it on a phone and it's probably too big for that anyway. This is a tablet device all the way, but that could be different for some people.

GTMax Silver Touch Screen Stylus Pen - 2 Pack for Verizon HTC Droid Eris CDMA Cell Phone Review

GTMax Silver Touch Screen Stylus Pen - 2 Pack for Verizon HTC Droid Eris CDMA Cell Phone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The GTMax Silver Touch Screen Stylus Pen works, sort of... and that's about where the positive things about this product end.
The tip of the stylus is a soft flexible rubber, undoubtedly intended to prevent damage to the screen; however, it is way too soft and flexible. You cannot drag the stylus across the screen without it loosing contact. I purchased this item for my Motorola Droid 2, and it is incredibly frustrating when I'm dragging through my app list and it stops and opens Angry Birds when I wanted to open my e-mail. Hours of time wasted... hours.
The tip actually pulls out of stylus, which is really just a small aluminum tube with a pocket clip attached. The tip pulls apart into two pieces, the rubber part and a hard plastic component. I think they were supposed to be glued together, but the adhesive didn't quite seem to hold. I believe the reason the glue didn't hold is because the hard plastic component is one of the most unusual and pointless shapes, and it really doesn't even match the shape of the rubber piece. Speaking as someone that has worked with part casting, this is one of the most poorly designed molds I've ever seen. Beyond the point, the hard plastic part is supposed to use friction to hold the tip in the stylus... it doesn't. If you push hard enough on a touch screen to try and avoid the rubber rolling over on itself, the whole tip actually pushes into the casing and you have to use a small pair of tweezers to pull it back out.
Ultimately, the whole point of that last paragraph is simply to tell you that this is one of the most poorly designed products I have ever seen. I guess there's a reason it is so cheap. My advice... spend a few extra dollars and get something a little bit better designed. This product is not worth buying.

Wrapsol Ultra Drop Scratch Protection Film for Apple iPhone 4

Don't buy from this listing, the reason it's so cheap is that you're going to get recalled defective product. If you buy directly from Wrapsol you know you are getting the newest release of their products. They had a quality issue with the first batch of the iPhone 4 films that they made that has since been fixed, and that's what you're going to end up getting if you buy it for cheap. Until you see "Ships from and sold by Wrapsol" I wouldn't bother.

Purchased this phone case for my girlfriend whom I adore. She was thrilled upon receiving the case being that she has been a fan of hello kitty since she was a little girl. The case is stylish, cute, aerodynamic and everything else rolled into one. Me being a guy I would have liked to of seen some reinforced rubber grips or some space age polycarbonate mesh grille to cool the air ducts. But all in all its a nice phone case. Love my baby Boo!

iFrogz Luxe Case for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Red/Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased an iFrogs Luxe case the same day I purchased my iPhone 3Gs, and at first was impressed. The case fit nicely, and everything lined up as it should. Initial impressions were positive ones. It protected well, and wasn't difficult to remove from pockets at all. Should be a 5 star review then. Then came the bad...
I own a white iPhone 3Gs. White phones show things a black phone won't. My phone showed that the coloring of the iFrogz Luxe is PAINTED on, and not a molded in color. 1 week after purchase I took the case off, and noticed that I had blue PAINT on my new white iPhone from the case! I was furious. This revelation showed two relative flaws in this case.
1) Color is not permanent on this case. It will rub off onto your phone
2) the placement of the color shows that it seems to placing pressure on the upper edges of my iPhone and creating a wear/friction spots on both the case and the plastic portion of the iPhone.
There are better cases on the market than this, but there are also worse cases. Final tally? A 3 out of 5

I'm so sorry to have to write a negative review, but here goes. I have two issues with this arm band for iPhone 3G. First, if you have one of those plastic protective cases on your iPhone, IT WILL NOT FIT in this item! I refuse to take the case off every time I go for a run. I wish they had made it with a little wiggle room (or elastic sides or SOMETHING, for heaven's sake it's the 21st century). Second, the clear plastic screen cover is so freaking thick I couldn't even "slide to unlock" my phone through it. And the clear window isn't wide enough to enable access to the whole touch screen. On the bright side, it looks to be sturdy material and the adjustable arm band looks great.

New Flex Cable Ribbon for Samsung A877 Impression in US Review

New Flex Cable Ribbon for Samsung A877 Impression in US
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This flex cable product is fine, but if you are buying it to resolve an unresponsive touch screen problem with your Samsung Impression A877, there is a chance it MAY NOT solve your problem. I later Bought a digitizer (aka replacement touch screen), which ALSO DID NOT resolve my unresponsive touch screen issue.
It kills me to say this, but my advice (after my having explored ALL ways to retrieve the data) is to get a new Impression where ever you can find it cheapest, but this time- back up all pics, data+ contacts before you loose the ability to access them. And KEEP IT DRY!! :(
*Don't buy used, people will lie to you. FYI: This model has been discontinued.
I love the Impression, but its' fallible touch screen is its' Achilles heel.

Incipio Technologies SILICRYLIC Case with Smoke Shell 2 Pack for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Black,Olive Green) Review

Incipio Technologies SILICRYLIC Case with Smoke Shell 2 Pack for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Black,Olive Green)
Average Reviews:

I love this case. I purchased my first one at the AT&T store and only bought a new one because I just bought a 3GS, so when I sell my 3G I plan on giving the new owner the old case.
I've gone through a number of case designs and this one is my favorite. It doesn't add a lot of bulk to my iPhone but protects the phone from drops, especially onto the phone's corners. Other cases either don't provide real protection or are too slippery.
The case is made of two parts. It has a hard-plastic X-shaped outer shell that protects the corners and the back and an inner silicon-rubber shell that provides a great grip (iPhones are too slippery for me without a rubber case) and dust protection for the volume and lock buttons. The dock, speaker, microphone, and mute switch are still uncovered. When it's all put together there are no annoying seams to rub you wrong and it doesn't come apart on accident but is easy to take apart if you need to.
The back on my first one was clear and shows a bit of scratching if you look for it but handles wear very well. This new one is smoke colored and I don't really know if scratches will show up better or worse, but, at least it's protecting the phone.
Definitely worth the price and I highly recommend it to all my fellow iPhone owners.

Samsung Instinct s30 Phone, Bronze (Sprint) Review

Samsung Instinct s30 Phone, Bronze (Sprint)

This phone rules. Sprint actually did something right with their plan so that you get a ton of services without paying extra.
GPS, email, messaging, internet, live search, TV on demand, Live TV, etc.
This phone simply rules. And thanks to samsung you don't have to buy that crummy iphone to get a nice setup like this.
Live search might be the coolest thing yet. Hold down a button and say the name, it finds the address, phone number, and GPS maps directions to it. Right on your phone. Amazing.
The signal is super strong. I actually get a GPS signal inside work, which with it's thick ceilings renders most phones incapable of even getting a roam signal.
I generally hate talking on a phone, but I love this phone.
Buy it, you couldn't possibly be disappointed.

CaseCrown iPhone 3G 3GS Metallic Glider Case (Green) Review

CaseCrown iPhone 3G 3GS Metallic Glider Case (Green)

Great case: light, "grippy", protects, and looks good! They're not too bulky and I can still fit my phone in my pocket. I bought 4 of these (in different colors) for my family, used on iPhone 3GS. They are well built, fit perfectly, and provide good-looking protection. They're not "sticky" like the silicone rubber cases, so it's easy to wipe off dust and lint, but they still have some grip due to the rubber-like coating. I (male) use the black. The blue and purple versions are nice for my daughters, but not very "manly". The red is used by my wife; the color would probably be okay for a guy. These type cases are very expensive at local stores. This Amazon deal got our family good cases at a great price!

BEWARE!!!!
i thought this was a great case until after a month the rubberized coating started to rub off. Contour asked me to send it in for them to take a look and determine if they would send a new one. After spending 35 dollars on a defective case I now also have to pay to' ship this back to them. Horrible customer service.

I've used this case for several months. I recently took my phone into the Apple store because i'm experiencing some problems with the phone not realizing that I'm done talking on it. The screen stays black and you can't press any buttons. They told me that this kind of case covers up the proximity sensor. Look on your phone to the left of the speaker and you will see 3 dots. You can only see it in certain light. In any case, this case covers these dots and affects the phone's use of these sensors. To get around it, just lift the case when you are done w/ the call and the screen will light. In any case, i find the case to be very sturdy and very protective of my phone. It even has saved it from a few drops!!

PhoneDevil Magic Screen protector: Matte Clear (anti-glare) edition - For Apple iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS (2 x screen protectors)

Up until now I haven't used a screen protector for my iphone 3GS since the screen is glass, but I decided to pick one up after using one with a matte finish. I just liked the way it felt and the fact that it reduced the finger smudges. I did a little research and decided to go with this one...and I'm glad I did. The fit and finish is great. For the most part it's the same size as the iphone screen so it shouldn't interfere with any cases. I'm using the CaseCrown two-piece case that covers the silver edge of the phone and it does not interfere with the screen protector.
A few things:
1. Before applying, make sure your screen is clean, free of smudges and lint.
2. Hold the edges of the protector as you apply it so you don't get any finger prints on the sticky side. I'm not sure if they would show or not due to the matte finish, but it doesn't hurt.
3. I started applying the protector around the home button on the iphone so it would be centered. Then I went up from there.
I would recommend buying two protectors in case you mess up the first one (for the price, it's a no brainer). Somehow a piece of red lint ended up in the middle of the screen. Not a huge deal and I can only really see it if I look for it, but still...
Highly recommended!
