GPS, email, messaging, internet, live search, TV on demand, Live TV, etc.
This phone simply rules. And thanks to samsung you don't have to buy that crummy iphone to get a nice setup like this.
Live search might be the coolest thing yet. Hold down a button and say the name, it finds the address, phone number, and GPS maps directions to it. Right on your phone. Amazing.
The signal is super strong. I actually get a GPS signal inside work, which with it's thick ceilings renders most phones incapable of even getting a roam signal.
I generally hate talking on a phone, but I love this phone.
Buy it, you couldn't possibly be disappointed.

HTC FUZE Phone, Black (AT&T) Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned my Fuze for about a month. It's my second WinMo smartphone (I previously owned a Samsung Blackjack II), and I do WinMo software development in my spare time.
Out of the box, the phone has many features that put iPhones and Blackberries to shame.
Pros:
+ VGA touchscreen (twice the resolution of iPhone's display, and 4 times the resolution of QVGA)
+ QWERTY keyboard has lots of keys that are small, yet easily accessible with my large hands.
+ Accelerometers- might seem gimmicky at first (Teeter is a fun game), the ability to mute a phone call by turning it face-down is surprisingly useful
+ Opera as default web browser. It blows Pocket IE away in terms of speed and usability.
+ Community support- even though HTC doesn't seem to care about customer's support ("We don't care if 3rd party software can't run on your device..."), the folks at xda-developers.com are great about tweaking HTC phones to near-perfection.
+ Wireless connection options are great. Supports AT&T's 3G/HSDPA network. Connection to a Wifi network is surprisingly fast for this little device (I wish my laptop could do this).
+ Supports HSUPA (needs to be unlocked), which increases upload speeds ten-fold (for me at least), which allows much snappier web-browsing
+ MicroSDHC expansion slot, allowing up to 32 GB of extra memory
+ TouchFlo3D front end
+ WinMo has more available apps than most (all?) other smartphone platforms, and is very easy to develop new apps for WM
+ Extra little surprises like the light sensor, very bright LED flash, snazzy notification LED (looks very cool), TV-out functionality (requires $20 cable), and a capacitive touchpad below the screen.
Cons:
- Small screen
- Crappy settings out of the box... Touchflow is jerky on default AT&T rom, GPS lag, hardware Direct3D support (easily fixable with a custom rom from xda-developers)
- AT&T bloatware, trial software wasting precious rom space (again, easily fixable with new rom)
- Glossy black finish = fingerprint magnet and very slippery device. The HTC Touch Pro overseas had a rubber matte back that was much nicer and felt more solid in your hands. No idea why they changed this for the US version.
- Lack of proper hardware drivers for video and 3D acceleration.*
*This is unacceptable. Even after HTC made assurances after the Kaiser driver debacle that future "devices" would be better supported. This thing has awesome hardware that is being advertised as one of the fastest mobile chipsets out on the market (Qualcomm MSM7201a, which has impressive specs on paper), but it runs video and games slower than my Dell Axim PocketPC produced back in 2003.
Overall, this is a great phone that with an impressive number of features. If you can excuse the mediocre video playback and lack of OpenGL ES support, this is an ideal phone. But if you're looking for a robust multimedia device that can handle 640x480 videos as well as 3D games, I'd suggest avoiding HTC phones until they fix their drivers.

The case is hard with a slight grippy-ness that makes the phone easy to use with one hand. The phone actually looks better with the case, and more people ask me about my Touch Pro since I put it on. (More customer reviews)I will admit to initially having some of the same frustration(s) with this device, to which others have alluded, and I, also, considered returning it within the thirty-day period allotted by Verizon. However, the capabilities of the HTC Touch Pro are extensive, and I found it difficult to fully appreciate everything the device can do in six weeks, let alone three or four.
First, my hands and fingers are larger than average, but I've found it easy and quick to navigate using the touch-screens and buttons. I use the stylus from time-to-time, and my experience is that it is sometimes necessary to use it when objects are crowded close together on the touch-screen, but I found this to be an infrequent necessity. The keyboard is very good, though I initially found the odd placement of the letter "M" a little disconcerting, but I did eventually get used to its location. These are certainly things one can try out in any Verizon store, and don't have to be left to chance; the same with build-quality, which I've found to be very good, check it out to your own satisfaction.
I use my Touch Pro mainly for business and am a heavy user of Microsoft Outlook Tasks, Calendar, and Contacts, so easy synchronizing these things with the same items on my desktop PC is very important to me; the HTC Touch Pro does this very well, though I'd have liked the Verizon Wireless Sync capability included with the basic data package, without having to pay extra for wireless sync. But I've gotten used to synchronizing by using the USB cable; it's quick and easy.
Setting up the device to download my email from four different email accounts, and four different providers, was easy and quick. One just types in the email address and password (you only have to do this once at setup) for an account and the device software does most of the rest. I did not find it necessary to download any additional software for this. I just followed the directions in the user guide. For each account, you can choose from a variety of time-intervals for checking your email (5 min., 10 min., 15 min., 30 min., 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, or once per day), or you may check manually in just seconds.
At first, I did find the operating system seemed to slow down or freeze from time-to-time. Invariably, this was due to having too many programs running at once, a condition cured with two touches on the main screen (with two touches, you can close any one program or close all open programs). Also, I found that getting photos and music off the device and onto a memory card resulted in faster operation. The device has a lot of memory, relatively speaking, but keep in mind that it has a lot of programs and capability. Re-setting the device (soft-reset, that is) is also a solution, but probably should only be done with the same frequency as you do it on your desktop or laptop--which is, hopefully, infrequently. If the device completely freezes, of course, your choices may be limited to a re-set. You may find, as I did, that once you learn how to get around in the device, moving more efficiently between and among its functions and programs, the incidence of freezing will drop to zero.
This is a great device for business, though the 3D TouchFLO interface (an I-Phone-like experience) seems fun to use and may be easier for some to navigate to more frequently used functions; I don't use this interface much, preferring the--perhaps more boring--"TODAY screen" interface and the full complement of functions available through menu choices. In any case, I found there are a number of ways of accomplishing typical tasks, some easier and quicker than others. For instance, text messaging, of which I do a lot with my daughter, is as easily accessible as it is for a regular cell phone; just three or four quick touches will get you there with the Touch Pro. For receiving a text message, a notification link takes you to the read/reply screen with only one touch.
In the end I've reacted positively to this device, especially for business. And I very much like the familiar "Windows" look and feel. Among those things for which I have less appreciation are: Cost (it's a pricey phone from Verizon); the highly polished, piano-black finish, is easily smudged with fingerprints; there is an atypically long delay in the phone ringing when a call comes in--the person calling will hear five rings while you will have heard only two--even if you're in the same room. Incidentally, in the event you plan to get your device from a non-Verizon source, you might want to check with Verizon to see if you might be by-passing some benefit (like "new-every-two" or a credit on a new phone when your plan expires--just a thought).

Seidio SURFACE Case for use with HTC Touch Pro 2 (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Seidio cover/holster combo, and posted the review below for that product. Because several other reviewers have had the same problem, I don't think its an isolated issue.
The cover is clearly made for the Sprint version of the HTC Touch Pro 2, but the part covering the screen does not fit well at all. When I first put it on the fit was good, but on the second day I noticed a gap between the phone and the corner of the case nearest to the on/off button. I bent the plastic back down and it stayed there for a few hours, but the gap reappeared. I've repeated this several times and the result is the same. The cover does not become loose and doesn't seem like it will fall off, but the gap is rather large, noticeable and makes the phone look cheap.
If not for this problem, I would have given this product 5 stars. The holster works perfectly and looks good, the matte black finish of the phone cover looks great and has a "rubberized" texture which makes it feel secure from slipping out of your hand. However, the ill-fitting top part is disappointing.
If the manufacturer fixes the fit problem, please let me know in a subsequent review. Other than this problem, I like this cover and holster combo and would buy a replacement cover if the problem was resolved.

(More customer reviews)The following review is for the XDA Serra, O2's UK version of the HTC Touch Pro (also known as the Raphael, T Mobile MDA Vario IV, AT&T Fuze and Sprint Touch Pro).
This is my third O2 XDA model. I`d previously used the XDA Mini S (aka HTC Wizard). I'd grown fond of the XDA Mini S but recall that the phone was a dog until O2 issued a major ROM upgrade about 6 months after its release.
In looking for a replacement for the XDA Mini S, I had the following criteria in mind;
* 3G (HSDPA) capable
* Good touch screen quality
* Single-handed operation
* Decent QWERTY keyboard - for me a must-have
* Preferably Windows Mobile 6.1 based (I'm wedded to a number of Windows Mobile applications including Outlook & Excel mobile, Ilium eWallet, Memory Map and Tom Tom Navigator)
* Good camera quality a nice-to-have but not paramount
* Available on an O2 UK Tariff (I wasn't prepared to pay a SIM-free price).
Candidates included the HTC Touch Pro, Sony Xperia X1, Nokia E71 and Samsung Omnia i900. I must confess to a (possibly irrational) antipathy to all things Apple so didn't consider the iPhone 3G, though I have no doubt that the iPhone is probably more user-friendly. It's the proprietary lock-ins with Apple that get me. The HTC Touch Pro is categorically not an "iPhone killer" (though the newer HTC Touch HD may well be).
The truth is, all of HTC's smartphone offerings have been exercises in managed expectation. They promise so much on paper but so often fail to deliver in terms of practicality. I often wonder if the professional reviewers who rave about HTC phones have actually used them in anger or are simply beguiled by the impressive specifications.
The Touch Pro is, along with the Touch HD, by far the best phone HTC have ever produced, but it is not without its flaws. I will admit that in the first few days of having received the XDA Serra I found the Touch Flo interface and GPS performance so frustrating that I seriously considered returning it to O2, but having persevered for a fortnight or so I am now much happier. So far, this is how the pros and cons stack up for me:
Pros:
1. Size, form factor and build quality.
2. Excellent screen resolution (640x480) and quality. Visibility in sunshine is very good.
3. Excellent slide out keyboard - far and away the best available.
4. Excellent phone sound quality.
5. Good 3G (HSDPA), Bluetooth and FM Radio performance.
6. Touch Flo interface makes single-handed operation feasible but the gestures take some getting used to. Helps to have small fingers.
7. Accepts up to 16GB microSD SDHC cards (though the need to remove the back cover to insert the memory card is seen by some as a disadvantage - personally I prefer it this way)
8. Magnetic stylus is less likely to drop out and get lost.
9. Uses standard mini USB connector for sync and charge.
10. Can charge from PC USB connection.
11. As with all Windows Mobile devices, syncing with PC via Activesync is very easy.
12. Huge variety of freeware and shareware available for the Windows Mobile platform, including some alternatives to the Touch Flo interface (mainly still in beta but very promising).
13. Teeter game - which uses the phone's built-in G-sensor - is great fun.
14. Very chic, for those who care about such things.
Cons:
1. Very expensive SIM-free.
2. "Joystick" functionality on central Navigation button is almost completely unusable and is - in my opinion - a significant design flaw.
3. Endurance with standard 1340mAh battery not great (especially if all radio options are enabled) but probably no worse than other phones in this class. Higher capacity (but bulkier) 1800mAh battery packs are available. I personally haven't found battery life to be an issue.
4. 3.2MP autofocus camera is a big improvement over earlier HTC models but is outclassed by the latest Sony, Nokia and Samsung camera phones. The LED camera flash is barely adequate in low light. If you're looking for a digital compact camera replacement this is not the phone for you.
5. Flaky Wi-Fi - needs to be set to `maximum performance' (at the expense of battery life) to get decent reception.
6. Built-in GPS is very temperamental. Initial lock can take anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes, though once lock is acquired, performance is OK in open ground. Urban reception is poor and the Assisted GPS function (which is disabled by default on the XDA Serra) doesn't appear to improve matters significantly. There are some performance enhancing tweaks recommended on various HTC forums, but the phone will never be a match for a dedicated handheld SiRF GPS and I imagine many people will find the internal GPS unusable in practice.
Note that you can always use an external Bluetooth GPS adapter such as the excellent Emtac BTGPS II or the one provided with some versions of Tom Tom Navigator.
7. Touch Flo interface a bit sluggish at times, but can be improved with some registry tweaking (Google the XDA Developers Forum). People who are happy to use a stylus will probably wish to disable the Touch Flo interface altogether.
8. Touch Flo interface cannot be customised, at least not without registry hacks.
9. Pressure needed for some touch screen gestures means a screen protector is advisable (one is provided in the box).
10. No built in headphone socket - needs special USB-to-jack adapter (a handy remote-control adapter with a standard 3.5mm jack is provided in the box).
11. Cannot sync/charge and use headphone adapter at the same time using the adapter provided, though it is possible to buy third party adapters for around £20 which do allow this.
12. Some relatively minor stability issues - expect to have to perform a soft-reset at least once a month.
I expect many of these issues will improve with the next ROM upgrade, though I have my doubts about the internal GPS.
Another reviewer has reported problems with accidental call answering. In fairness this is a hazard with many touch screen phones (I used to find this incredibly annoying with the XDA Mini S) but can generally be easily resolved by installing a freeware screen lock utility. I've found SU2U 1.35 (Slide To Unlock) works very well on the Touch Pro.
If you like Windows Mobile and need a slide-out keyboard, this is undoubtedly the best phone on the market. If you don't need the keyboard, you might want to consider the HTC Touch HD (which has recently tipped the Nokia E71 off the top of PC Pro's smartphone A-List).
