(More customer reviews)I have had my Desire HD for a week now - bought from TKS in Germany (and paid more than it would have been on Amazon). Overall I am very happy with it:
PROS:

- Solid build quality and, unlike most other phones, its not a glossy fingerprint magnet!
- Large and beautiful screen with great color saturation
- Runs fast and is very responsive - I have not encountered any lag
- Wi-Fi Hotspot is easily set up so I can pull e-mail into my iP*d Touch
- Replaceable battery in the event that the battery fails
- Image quality of camera runs circles around *Phone 3GS and is better than IP4
- Sound quality is fabulous for music and great for calls
- USB internet pass-through functionality to save 3G data charges
- Its a small thing but the live wallpapers are beautiful
- Setting up IMAP to pull in Exchange e-mail is easy
- Otterbox makes a very nice case for it
CONS:

- Battery life is only so-so - a day and a half at best
- Poor design for SIM card slot - the SIM causes a (slight) unsightly gap on the bottom cover
- Removing and replacing the battery cover is tricky - mine has a tiny gap after it was replaced
- Limited storage (8-Gb micro-SD) for the price - should have been 16-Gb
- Android market is a mess to say it nicely - limited number of good games
Complaints about the box and size are silly. Why would you buy a large phone then complain about the size? I have a 3GS and iP4 for games - but this phone has completely won me over for daily use. The screen is large enough to comfortably surf the web and handle routine e-mail. It's so good that I can hardly put it down and I can easily overlook the cons!!

(More customer reviews)To begin with, the moment I opened the box, I loved what I saw. The phone looks very fancy, neat and a class apart. The screen's sensitivity to touch is excellent.
My problem with this phone so far is that it cannot connect to the internet. It has wifi but I can't figure out why it cannot get to wireless internet, much as it does detect the network. Everyone in the house is able to use the wireless on their phones and Hitachi but this phone sucks a million times, I have tried several times, including getting to face book but nothing fruitful, instead it tries to connect and then it goes 'unable to connect'
The user manual is the worst I have seen my entire life. If the manufacturer cannot understand that a user manual is supposed to guide someone on how to use a device, then they would better not waste time writing the manual for this phone. A manual is supposed to explain how a function operates, how it is operated, the advantages and disadvantages and what to do in case the function screws you up, but this manual is far from this. In the manual, there are only bullet points which are a repetition of what is in the list of contents, I was so disapointed that the manual is so useless, so useless and I repeat again 'so useless indeed'
I am still looking online to see how to best use this phone, however, there is not enough information online about this product and I thought that is a bummer, no reviews except the sales language that promote this phone by the manufacturer/sellers.
Friends, if you like to get this phone, be warned that you might face internet connection. I have only had it for a week, but I am sure I might find more flaws.
On another note, the call quality is really good, all the phone basics are okay including text messaging and pictures, etc, but if you like to explore different things using a phone, then this one is not the best.
However, I am still hopeful and continuing my search on how to get connected on the net. Some of the information I got on other sites indicate that this phone's connectivity works best on GSM network, which I have also failed. I am trying again for the next one week, and then I can ship back to Amazon for either a replacement or a refund.
If anyone has used this phone before and has been able to figure out what I am talking about here, I would appreciate their suggestions.

(More customer reviews)This is an updated review; I originally wrote it before this phone was commercially available in the USA. After having tried one out in a store in Singapore, I had decided to keep my N95 8GB and wait for the N97 instead. First, I was unimpressed with the keypad design, as the flat surface gives you very little guidance to help you hit the right keys. Plus, both the N85 nor the N96 are merely incremental upgrades, neither one offering the type of groundbreaking advances that the N95 did two years ago.
Well, being a compulsive gadget geek, I succumbed in a weak moment. As the price started dropping (and it has been dropping fast, and continues to do so!) I latched on. The couple of factors that did it for me was the bright, crisp screen (and it is gorgeous!) and its smaller, more pocket-friendly size compared to the N95. Also, I liked the new features that it offered: Tri-band UMTS ("worldwide" 3G), FM transmitter, a UI upgrade with "transition effects".I was soon taken in with the N85. Not only does it have a much sleeker and modern-looking design than the N95 (especially the N95-3 now looks klunky by comparison), but there are dozens and dozens of little details that have been tweaked in the user interface, making for an overall more pleasant experience.
One thing that came up for me, as apparently for many others, is the issue of build quality. After having used the N85 for less than two weeks, a lot of dust had gathered underneath the display - it turns out it is not sealed properly onto the base. I returned it to Amazon for a replacement - initially I actually ordered a N96 because of this issue. It turns out that there were other problems with the N96 (particularly related to its slow performance and low available run-time memory), so I returned that too in favor of my second N85. This time I was luckier, and I can now say that I have never been as happy with any other phone.
My original review follows, including some reasons I had planned to forgo it; I have marked updates as appropriate.Both the N85 and N96 incorporate nearly every feature of the N95: GPS w/optional voice navigation, 5 MP camera with LED flash (though these newer models use two LEDs for brighter indoor pictures) and built-in geotagging, support for up to 32GB of µSDHC removable memory (currently 16GB are largest available), standard 3.5mm headphone/headset connector which doubles as a TV-out port, comprehensive bluetooth suppport, and last but not least Symbian S60 (by far the most popular smartphone operating system in the world, far ahead of Windows Mobile, Blackberry OS, iPhone, etc - with a corresponding wealth of available applications). See my review of the N95 8GB for some more details. Also, both the N95, N85 and N96 are issued in a "standard" version for international markets, and a "NAM" version for enhanced support of North American 3G networks.
The N85 and N96 differ from each other as follows:
UPDATE: I have added the older N95 8GB into the mix for comparison's sake.
* The N85 has a 2.6" OLED screen, whereas the N95 8GB and N96 has a 2.8" standard LCD screen. OLED offers brigher colors, especially in sunlight, and lower power consumption (longer battery life). That's because the pixels themselves illuminate, rather than relying on a backlight to do this.
* Both the N85 and N96 are running S60 release 3 "Feature Pack 2", which means that they support "transition effects" for an overall smoother UI and interactive experience. In particular, the N85 seems overall more "modern" than the older N95. (ADDED 3/19/09)
* In addition to quad-band GSM/2G (850/1900 MHz for North America, 900/1800 MHz for the world outside), the N85 also has a tri-band UMTS radio. The North American version supports the 850/1900 MHz UMTS bands (for e.g. AT&T), plus 2100 MHz for roaming internationally, while the N85 8GB NAM and N96 NAM only supports 850/1900 MHz. (Conversely, the international versions of the N85 and N95/N96 support 900/1900/2100 MHz and simply 900/2100 MHz, respectively). In short, it means that if you take your N85 with you abroad, you should still be able to get faster 3G coverage in most places where available, something which is not true for either the N95 or the N96. (Plus, among the North American models, the N85 is the only one that also will work in Japan, since there is no 2G/GSM network available there, only 3G/UMTS over 2100 MHz).
* The N85 has a built-in FM transmitter, for streaming voice calls and music e.g. to your car stereo. This is particularly useful if your car is not equipped with bluetooth (incl. A2DP) technology.
* The N96 has a built-in TV tuner, supporting DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting for Handhelds). However this feature is not enabled in the North American version, because such broacasts are not available here. AT&T, like other North American carriers, have instead chosen to use MediaFLO for digital video broadcasts.
* The N96 has 16GB of built-in mass storage, in addition to a µSDHC slot. Thus, in theory, it is able to store up to 48GB of data with the addition of a 32GB µSDHC card. The N95 8GB is limited to the same 8GB of memory for its lifetime, while the N85 has a µSDHC slot (I currently use a 16GB card in it).
* The N85's processor contains a 369 MHz ARM11 core, while the N96 has a dual 264 MHz ARM9. It is difficult to say which one performs better, but both use Symbian S60 version 3 feature pack 2, which offers significant improvements in interactive feel over the N95 (which contained a 333 MHz ARM11 core). That said, none of these have the graphics coprocessor that the N95 did, so applications (mainly games) that are optimized for this, will run much faster on the older N95. The N95 also wins hands down in JBenchmark trials.
UPDATE 3/18/09: Now having owned/tried all three, I can say that overall, the N85 is the snappiest one of the bunch. The N96, in contrast, is quite underperforming; it even has problems streaming audio to my Pioneer car stereo over Bluetooth A2DP without hickups every 11-12 seconds. As for interactive use, both the N85 and N96 feel a little bit quicker than the older N95.
* Some people have complained about cheap, plasticky build quality on the N85 (see e.g. HowardForums); in particular, the keypad is seemingly somewhat flimsy and simply glued onto the phone. People who have tried both generally seem to prefer the N96 on this account.
UPDATE 2/8/09: With a few day's use of the N85 under my belt, I'd say it is no worse than the N95. The keys are flat and with less tactile feedback, so it may be a little bit more difficult to text with one hand; however it's no worse than, say, the Motorola RAZR or some Samsung phones.
UPDATE 2/19/09: As described above, mine had a problem with the display peeling off the base, and dust gathering underneth.
UPDATE 3/19/09: My replacement N85 has been stellar.
* The N85 is smaller (mainly due to the smaller screen) and will fit easier into your pocket. UPDATE: Both the N85 and N96 are slimmer than the N95.
* Both the N85 and N96 use the micro-USB standard (a slightly wider and flatter connector than mini-USB as seen on the N95) for data, and both can be charged through this port as well. In addition, the N96 has a separate Nokia charging connector. Now, here is the single reason I will not be replacing my N95 with a N85: This connector is at the top of the phone! To me, this is stupid (and the only reason I subtracted a star from my rating), because it precludes the ability for third party manufacturers of docks and cradles to create one that you simply dock your N85 into for syncing/charging. This is especially important in your car, if you plan on using the GPS navigation feature of this phone (keep in mind that when the GPS reciever is turned on, the batteries are drained pretty fast). With my N95 8GB, i simply got a Brodit/ProClip device holder, along with a corresponding vehicle mount from PanaVise, and voila - I have a very nice little GPS device/music player/etc readily available; the N85 is definitely a bit more cumbersome in this regard. UPDATE: Obviously I caved in and got the N85 anyway. [...] now has a cradle for the N85 - but as I said, it does require that you manually plug the charging connector into the phone.
* As always, beware of rather dismal repair/warranty service from Nokia USA (c/o PALCO). You buy it, you own it. You should be able to do most repairs yourself, though, with parts from e.g. cnn.cn - once available for this device. UPDATE: Various customer accounts both here and on[..] indicate that PALCO have gotten significantly better lately.
All this said, the bottom line is that there is simply no match for these phones when it comes to their sheer capabilities and the amount of features found on them. Sure there are phones out there with more emphasis on ease of use and eye candy (e.g. iPhone), and sure there are ones with their own unique features/gimmicks (e.g. the Google Applications in the new T-Mobile G1) - but Nokia S60 smartphones are widely regarded as pure workhorses with the best overall feature sets.
The N85 pushes the limits a little further, and is perhaps the phone with the most capabilities on the market today. But if you are concerned about a solid build, you might want to consider the N95 8GB or N96 instead. Or, wait for the newly announced N86 8MP, where apparently a lot more attention has been paid to build quality.

The phone actually has two cameras, a high-resolution, 5-megapixel camera on the back of the device and a lower resolution camera on the front (352 x 288 pixels-pixel resolution) on the front of the phone for video calls (requires network compatibility). The main camera on the back of the N85 supports an image capture resolution of 2584 x 1938 pixels. You can use both cameras to take still pictures and record videos.
The still camera has a 20x digital zoom, center weighted auto exposure, white balance controls, light sensitivity modes, multiple scene modes (including portrait, landscape, sport, and night). T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile text messaging users.
View web pages as they were originally intended with the integrated Nokia Web Browser, which enables you to zoom out to a full screen view of the entire page using the Mini Map feature. (More customer reviews)I am a college student who was in desperate need of a new cell phone after my old one stopped working. Because of that I wanted to buy a phone truly worth the money, and one that would last.
For someone who isn't willing to pay for 3G service, but still wants internet, and a modern looking phone, THIS is the perfect cell phone. Phones like this are very hard to come by because most do require data packages (the ones considered smartphones anyway). I can't say how it compares to a smartphone having never owned one, but for someone like me it's perfect.
- QWERTY keyboard is well spaced, text messaging capabilities are wonderful
- WIFI! Can I stress how important this is? It's probably the best feature of the phone. Wi-Fi is pretty much everywhere nowadays, so why buy a smartphone when you can get a phone with Wi-Fi capabilities for a much lower price, and without having to buy a data plan?
I've had it for about 3 weeks now and I have absolutely no complaints. The battery lasts about 3-4 days and that's with a good number of hours using it (mostly texting or listening to music).
So if you want to buy something definitely worth the money that not only functions great but LOOKS great, this is the phone for you. Best $120 I ever spent!

The phone has many excellent features, such as:
o Multi band covering the whole world
o Full communication suite (BT, wireless, push email, Internet...) that is easy to setup
o Nice touch screen and nice panels, which can be developed by a normal user
o Office tools and applications
o and many more
Its features are better than many cell phones such as the HTC diamond, which is comparable to it, and is always said that this is an imitation of it. Moreover, it runs great and flawlessly.
The couple of things that I would like to be better are the speaker phone function, it just needs to be a little bit louder, and the multimedia player that comes with it, but again you can always buy third party applications that can cover all types of audio and video.
I'm extremely happy with the phone and recommend it to anybody and everybody.

(More customer reviews)I used to have a sony Ericsson P910. I regret the day I replaced with this phone.
I'll start with the positive: the battery does last a long time. That's about it.
The bad: the phone is full with software problems or driver problems. It started with losing the link with a Sony Ericsson bluetooth hands free i had. I though it was the ear piece but I tested and it was ok. I had to delete it and re-pair it almost every day.
Then it continued with not recognizing phone numbers in the phonebook; so if someone in your phonebook called you, one could not see its name or photo and offered you to save the number at the end of the call. It didn't matter if you accepted to save the number, the next time it would go all over again.
The voice dialing is useless.
The contact thought which you charge and connect the phone to the computer is poorly designed and was nearly impossible to get good contact. The last issue I have is that the battery status indicator stopped working; it show full all the time until your phone runs out of battery.
Another issue is that the keys you use for dialing don't have the standard three letters so if you are going to dial say, 1-800-FOR-SONY, it's going to be hard to figure out the actual number.
The phone is really slow
My experience with sony ericsson has not been very satisfactory.

It does everything I need and has 3G. Great phone Sony Ericsson! My only complaint is the lack of a camera, but even then, the other phones' cameras are so bad that there's no point of having one.
P.S. Ignore the first review, it's not accurate, I have no problem with the battery or charger and I've had the phone for about 6 months now.

(More customer reviews)Nobody seems to mention several important things. I'm not sure if all the products are the same, or if the one I bought from this particular seller had these problems, but mine had two major shortcomings.
1) It only comes with a Southeast-Asia plug adapter (which I believe is the same as they use in the UK). So out of the box, there is no way to charge it in the US, other than via USB. At some point you will probably want to buy a converter plug.
2) There is no Market application installed on it. Therefore, you cannot, with conventional means, install any other applications on this phone. The Android OS that comes with this particular phone is crippled. I managed to root the phone and install a much better Android version on it, but it took me about 6 hours of trial and error and it put me at risk of ruining the phone (drop me a message if you need help rooting your own Hero; I saved my notes from the process).
After fixing number (2) above, yes, the phone is great and it works as expected. There are plenty of reviews out there and I agree with what they say -- the good and the bad. But it takes hours of effort and you must take serious chances to restore this phone to its un-crippled state. That is why I'm giving it only two stars.

(More customer reviews)I was hesitatig about buying this product since there some reviews stating that this phone is below E72. Well, it is in absolute numbers since it does not come with secondary camera, which I've never used in E71 and E72, however, the SO is clearly more stable and runs faster, designed also to incorporate facebook and twiter among other social networks apps natively.
Also, the assisted GPS computes your position faster than E72. I can say this because I did a simple benchmark between them. E5 took less than 10 secs, E72 more than 3 minutes.
The keyboard, although similar in size and key distribution, is more comfortable, I guess it is due to an improved key shape and they are slighly wider, which is very noticeable when writing.
The camera is 5MP, I guess is the same. I have to say that comparing only pixels in cámeras is like comparing food only with calories or cars with hp. There are more things to evaluate.
The construction.... well, I don't know why people complain a lot about plastic construction since it's very similar to that of the E72, all plastic but the battery cover, made of stainless steel, which gives a nice feeling. Ok, it is not fron a casting as the E71 but that doesn't mean it has a weak built, it feels rock solid and less suceptible to be damaged since it weights less and then less energy is needed to be absorbed, thus less prone to be damaged.
In general conclusion it's a great phone, with less features like the secondary camera, which I never use, but it costs less and IT HAS improvements learned from the very unstable E72.

It has everything you want in a smart phone; Web browser, GPS, still/video camrea, wifi, bluetooth and a decent number of apps (not to mention its good looks). It also comes with a 8GB micro SD card which you can upgrade if you need to. Touch flow 3d makes up for the outdated UI of WM 6.1. Whenever I forget it at home, I really miss it.
I use it with a "go" plan cause I'm not willing to pay a carrier tax every month. It's no big deal because I don't make that many calls and I use data apps only where I have access to Wifi. It may not be a good fit for someone who has a monthly plan. You might as well just take advantage of the carrier discounts you get on a new handset especially since the phone doesn't support 3G in the states. I think HTC missed a big oppurtunity by not releasing a US 3G model.

MW09 Watch Cell Phone ~ unlocked~ Quad-band Review

(More customer reviews)I bought and returned this item. Since I didn't find my detailed reviews, I would like to share my opinion about this watch:
It looks bulky, and cheap (it is cheap), I thought I can use it to replace my phone when I want to go for a short walk (or if I don't to put something in my pocket). The voice of the phone speakers is not that loud, but it's ok. I was planning to use the Bluetooth headset. However, the one that came with it didn't work.. and when I used the one I had (Plantronics, which works great) the sound quality was bad and the voice kept breaking. It was also hard to keep it paired to the phone the whole time.
The UI of the watch is a bit strange, the icons they chose where difficult to understand.. but that might be something you can get used to. Didn't keep it long to test the battery life, and didn't plug it into the computer.. two problems that I heard about. I only tested it for an hour, and it didn't do what I needed it to.
The concept is good, but not the design or the implementation. I believe LG would be a better (more expensive) choice. Don't hate, I just wanted to share my actual experience.

(More customer reviews)Having used several smart phones, and used this phone for about 4 months, I believe I can give a fairly educated review. And hopefully save you some money in the process. I was going to do a pros and cons list, but I can't think of many pros other than the fact that it charges off a USB charger.
The supplied software is useless (like most of these things). You can drag and drop from your computer to the phone, but you need to find the drop folders yourself. This takes time (and effort), as the folder set up is overly complex.
Once you have some music on your phone, you'll discover it doesn't have a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you'll need an HTC headset, which is an extra (was included on the previous model) and too bulky to carry around. You also can't plug it into speakers or your car stereo for the same reason, thus you can't play your music. Other HTC models have headphone jacks, why not this one?
I haven't found a video format the phone will play. If it made the video, it'll play it. Otherwise it won't.
It runs windows mobile. So it does all the things devices running windows do - it freezes, it crashes, and it requires re-booting - FAR too often.
The HTC TouchFLO will cause you most of the frustration found with this phone. It is unable to distinguish between long or short touches, strokes and taps.... Or in fact anything that you'd expect from a touch device. If, for example you scroll through your contacts, the phone will continue to scroll until you stab the screen several times to stop it. By then it's gone past the contact you wanted, and you have to do it again, and again, and again. Eventually you'll give up and use the navigation key - which defeats the point of having a touch screen phone.
The screen is too small for the size of the phone. Navigating the internet is very difficult, so you'll need to enlarge the screen to read anything. Then you're at the mercy of TouchFLO again, as you attempt to move the page to the section you want to read. TouchFLO will activate links you didn't want (as it can't distinguish between taps, and scrolls), and it will zoom and un-zoom constantly (as it can't distinguish taps, double taps, and scrolls). Simply looking at a page is hard enough, doing anything like booking flights or a rental car is impossible.
The default web browser (Opera) doesn't open all web pages correctly, and links often remain inactive (see booking flights above). It also has Explorer, but with the small screen, it's too hard to use, and TouchFLO works differently in explorer. Opera is the lesser of the two evils.
There are no settings to change the screen from landscape to portrait. Landscape would make everything easier (slightly). Once mine opened a web page in landscape (which was great), the next time it was back to portrait. There is no setting to change it manually. I think my experience was just a Microsoft glitch.
It has limited internal memory, with an expansion slot for another micro SD card. However, the default setting is to save to the phone, which fills the memory so quickly it's no longer able to launch some programmes. Once data is saved to the phone there is no way to move it to the SD card, the only option is to delete (or connect to a computer and start the slow painful process of doing it your self). To avoid this you have to manually tell it to save to the card.
If you store data on the card, you have to manually search the card to find it. Essentially you have two storage devices, a phone, and a card. This is a very annoying problem.
Due to the phone's limited internal memory, it can only run one programme at a time and due to the slow processor speed, some programmes takes an eternity to load (Opera, for example can take up to 10 seconds and sometimes more)
The camera is about typical quality for a phone like this. The best thing I can say, is it takes photos. Not good photos, just photos. The metering and white balance are very poor, but so are most phone cameras.
To answer a call, the phone uses a `button' on the screen that you tap (rather than slide like an iphone), meaning you'll answer calls while fishing it out of your pocket. Even when it's your mother inlaw. Or accidently answer calls, even when you haven't heard the phone ring.
When it detects wireless networks, it beeps, and brings up a box asking if you want to join it. If you're in an area with lots of networks, or in a moving vehicle, the shear number of these boxes makes doing anything on the phone impossible, as you have to constantly dismiss them.
Texting is difficult due to the screen size. With the keyboard open you loose most of the screen, and still need to use the stylus to type as the `keys' are still tiny.
There is no Alarm tone. The alarms will only make one solitary beep. Adding an alarm sound, or song to the folder containing the `beep' was fruitless. Mine is totally unreliable and the alarm seems to go off around 80% of the time - you simply can't rely on it.
The recessed screen is an improvement over the previous model, as it makes it more difficult to scratch, however it doesn't come with a pouch (which the previous model did) so it'll get scratched anyway. It does however, come with a screen protector.
As a business tool, this phone misses the mark:
You can't read spread sheets on the screen, so you have to enlarge it. Then if you try to scroll, our friend TouchFLO is unable to distinguish between touching and scrolling, thus it will only highlight cells, it WONT scroll. The only way to do it is to use the stylus to move the tabs at the sides of the page (as any human finger is about 20 times too big to touch the little tabs). You can never see enough of the sheet at once to actually do anything
Word documents are usable, but due to the size of the screen, once you open the keyboard you can't read much. And again due to the limitations of TouchFLO you can move the curser, but you can't scroll through the document with out using the stylus on the tabs.
Email works well, but attachments are downloaded to the phone memory, so it quickly fills up, which then affects other programmes. Deleting emails is the only solution, and as this phone does a full sync with your email server, they're deleted off the server too.
Summary: it's a cheap, very poor imitation of an iphone. So poor that it fails at even the most simple tasks. If you've never used a smart phone before, you may be wowed by the internet and email on the phone and may not notice all of these failings. If you have used one before, this phone will drive you insane. The user interface is VERY poor. HTC has a long way to go to make this phone usable.
Verdict: Save your money. The only reason it gets two stars is that it does usually make and receive phone calls.

On the left side of the screen it has dedicated music controls making controlling your tunes a breeze, you can leave you MP3 at home after you buy this phone. The phone itself is good too, sound quality is clear and the buttons are big, it also provides good feedback so you know what you have pressed. Like other Nokias battery life is strong, usually a full charge last 4 to 5 days with moderate talk time. The phone is really compact and light, sometimes I forget if it's in my pocket and have to pat it just to make sure I have it with me =)
The downside is the camera, it's practically useless in low light situations. Even in moderate light there are still lots of image noise, you can get away with it a little bit by it being 3.2 Megapixels thus always giving you high resolution but at 3.2 it takes quite a few seconds for it to process the picture. Also since it's not a 3G phone, using EDGE for web browsing is a bit on the sluggish side.
The bottom line is if you want a stylish, light, practically phone with good battery life and music capabilities then you can't go wrong with this Nokia. If you want something more powerful with full 3G then shop for something else.
To clear thing up only two large US wireless companies uses GSM: AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile so this phone will only work with them. Overseas GSM is the dominate technology so you can easily use this phone outside the US.

(More customer reviews)first a comparison to the e61i: i had both the e61 and e61i and this is a major improvement over both. the form factor is incredible as it is only 10mm thin, much narrower than its predecessors, and feels very solid and sleek with its all metal body. the phone is just beautiful to look at. nokia has improved its processor greatly and the phone has almost no wait time with all its functions now. when i went back to use the e61i, it was unbearably slow compared to the e71. the keypad on the e71, although a little cramped, feels good on the fingers. one of my biggest complaints about the e61i was that earphone speaker was hard to hear out of, but the e71's narrower body and seemingly louder speaker solves the problem. the e71 has also added a microUSB port, and 2.5mm earphone jack. in terms of software, the e71 has an updated symbian os that includes some additional features and programs that were pleasant to see. the biggest program improvements for me was the updated organizer and the shortcut key options. for all e61 and e61i users out there, the e71 is a must update to nokia's wonderful line of phones.
comparison to competitors: function-wise, it has all the features blackberry's and the iphone 3g have. however, the e71 is much smaller than both (just put the e71 side to side with the blackberry curve and the iphone and they both look like monsters compared to the e71). i have no complaints with the 3g and 3.5g (umts/hsdpa), and I'm not sure what the other reviewer was talking about-- it must be a network/area dependent problem. i live in the SF bay area and i almost always connect to the 3.5g network with att and the internet is extremely fast, comparable to web browsing on a computer with broadband cable access. i really dont like the all touch screen of the iphone, so i would never consider it. i was debating between the curve and e71, but e71 beats it in both function and form-factor. the e71 has a umts/hsdpa, 3mp camera, and better battery life. all the rest (OS mainly) is just up to personal preference.
concluding remarks: if you ask "why should I get the e71", i would answer with these points based on what "I" feel is most important:
- very fast 3G capability
- excellent size, feel, and look,
- speedy processor with no lag in navigation
- improved OS and great computer connection software (nokia pc suite)
- long battery life
- 3MP camera with flash
- comes with carrying case, carrying strap, stereo earphones, and data cable
- and lastly, did i mention that this is the most beautiful i have ever seen? see one for yourself (i know its hard b/c they dont really have them in stores) and you will love the look and feel of it.
