Sony Ericsson W580i Black Phone (AT&T) Review

Sony Ericsson W580i Black Phone (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was up for a two year contract renewal for ATT and for months now I have wanted an iPhone but I've waited for the 3G, or at least the second generation, iPhone... my trusty SE s710a was still good but I figured if I have to sign a new 2yr with the iPhone anyway, why not get a free phone out of it?
After looking at the lackluster selection of phones by ATT, I was captured by the style of the w580i. So I figured I would give it a try... and I am not regretting it a bit!
This phone is much smaller than the monster I had before, and unlike older SE phones, the UI is very snappy. If you read most online reviews, they speak the truth. The keypad is small but after a little while you get used to it. T9 is much improved over my previous phone.
The camera is OK, nothing special. But it's better quality then the iPhone!
Call quality is superb. Feels comfortable in your hand during prolonged periods of time. I have had many friends say that the sound quality on their end is much improved over my previous s710a. The loudspeaker on this can get LOUD but it's good that way!
The Walkman function on here is killer! I works sort of like an iPhone's in how smoth it functions. There's a dedicated WKM button, anytime you need to go to the app, click it and you jump to the WKM program, click it again and you go right back to where you were!
The sliding function has been solid so far, only time will tell if it lasts. The keys have been reported to crack easily- one reason I'm not discarding my s710a yet... we'll see. But that's not a reason to not buy this phone. I love it to death right now and it will deffinately hold me over till I get a 2nd or 3rd gen iPhone!
BTW the SanDisk 4GB MemoryStick Micro M2 card works perfectly fine with this phone. And since the phones memory is only about 14MB, it's DEFFINTELY worth the extra cost to get one.
UPDATE 02/2008: After using this phone daily for several months now, I am still loving it. The walkman is somewhat solid, and file transfers from the phone and a iMac is smooth. Pictures look good, especially in daylight- night shots are very unimpressive.
I hate the the ATT Internet button on the front. Both shortcut buttons are not re-assignable, so every time i click that button it tries to connect to the internet, which i disabled... very annoying. But nothing to keep me from recommending this phone for the price you can get it with,
Constuction has been holding up. The plastic is clicking a little, but I think it will be OK. The screen is amazingly crack/scratch resistant.
Phone call quality isnt as stellar as I first said, but much improved over the s710. I think real flip phones still have better phone quality. Real flip phones also have a much worse UI, which for a texter is more important.
4GB Flash card works without a hitch. Still my phone of choice to hold me over till iPhone 2.0, sometime in Summer/Fall 2008

Sony Ericsson shakes things up with its new quad-band W580i Walkman phone, introducing an innovative "shake to shuffle" feature that randomly chooses another song stored on your phone with just a flick of the wrist. This thin, slider-style phone also features a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, fast Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR connectivity with music streaming, Memory Stick Micro expansion, Web browser for viewing full Internet sites, email access, an FM radio with RDS, and EDGE data support.
AT&T Service The W580i operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"), with availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. This third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

The front of this slider phone includes dedicated music control buttons, and it includes Sony Ericsson's innovative "shake to shuffle" feature. With Shake control activated, press and hold the Walkman key and flick your wrist. A vibration lets you know that the track has been changed--a new song from your current playlist is randomly selected and automatically played.
With the TrackID service, you can identify any song that you can hear by just recording a snippet of sound using the microphone. After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. Other Walkman features include MegaBass enhancement for added depth of sound, a flight mode that lets you keep listening to tunes with the phone's network connectivity turned off, and Disc2Phone software for easy transfer of song files between phone and PC. This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.
The built-in 2.0 megapixel camera captures stills and video--and playback of video or still pictures is only limited to the memory card size. Picture effects and custom screensavers, backgrounds, and themes can be setup to fit your personality. It provides support for PictBridge technology so you can print your photos without the need of a PC (either using USB or Bluetooth). And the W580i makes it easy to send snapped photos directly to a blog or an online photo, complete with text. This phone is also compatible with RTSP/3GPP streaming video playback
You can even take your favorite tracks to the track with the W580i, which will count your steps, your calories and monitor your running speed/distance/time with the integrated motion sensor. Your workout results are stored in your phone so you can monitor your progress.
The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. It also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you. Support is built in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics and sound via messages.
The phone also supports the SyncML PC synchronization standard. This means the phone can be used with the included Sony Ericsson Sync Station software, which lets you synchronize your Microsoft Outlook calendar, contacts, notes and tasks on your PC with the phone.
Other features include:
2-inch LCD with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and support for 262K colors
Up to 1000 contact entries, each with five number fields
Built-in pedometer and fitness applications

T-Mobile G1 Android Phone, White (T-Mobile) Review

T-Mobile G1 Android Phone, White (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Battery in my old phone died; I was eligible for an upgrade. I was holding off on upgrading until the G2 was released in May but I called T-mobile and here is what they did:
Instead of replacing the battery in my Motorola Rizr, they offered me a free device to hold me over until I wanted to use my upgrade for the G2. So not only did I get a free G1, they also let me keep my upgrade so that when the G2 is released, I get to use my upgrade for that. hahah how great is that? On top of that, I asked them if I needed to return the G1 when I got my G2. She said no and that I could keep it. This is why T-mobile is awesome. Seniority with them takes you a long way. ok onto the device.....
(There aren't many bad things to say about it so I'll get those out first)
THE CONS
-No video camera?
Eh? I could be wrong but I cant find it.How can Youtube be a feature of the phone, but the phone NOT have a video camera to record movies? Just seems silly to me.
-A little bulky
But not too bad like I was thinking (I think this is because of the keyboard which the G2 will not have btw)
-Camera not so good
Only 3 megapixels? C'mon now! We can do better than that.
PROS
(Theres actually so many I can only highlight a few)
-Youtube & Google Features are great
They are pretty much the only websites i ever use on my computer at home anyways. Having them "specially featured" on my handheld makes me a happy camper.
-The Android Market
Brilliant. absolutely amazing concept. Endless applications. Anyone can put something on the market so there is also junk to weed through! Which is expected. But I personally like the liberal approach to it. This place pretty much lets you create/upload/share all kinds of cool programs for your device. This "transormability" or personalization technique is what makes the Android network so great. It allows you to turn your device into the handheld of your dreams. How can you wrong with unlimited options? that means endless options for your phone. Not any one person's G1 is like anyone others. That idea is just amazing.
-Love the touch screen/phsical keyboard option
This is awesome that you have that option. I have to have a keyboard but at the same time, there are times when touchscreen is more practical. So bravo to them for giving us both options.
-EXTREMELY User Friendly: I'm THAT guy that reads the instruction book front to back. Not with the G1. I was actively surfing the net, emailing, watching videos, and texting probably within minutes the battery was fully charged. Which is another good thing. This thing gives you a percentage bar on the front and it charges very quick!
- Battery Life A+
A fully charged battery will last 12 hours if your using the phone NON-STOP (this includes using internet, emailing, texting, talking, camera) Thats pretty impressive if you ask me. How do I know? I actually put the phone to the test!
- Sync'ing capabilities
You can connect this thing to just about anything! I love how you can connect to your own wireless connection in your house. Makes surfing the web even faster than the phone naturally can!
Youtube and google are dominating the web. They are now dominating the cell phone world. This is an A+ device. I rarely use my PC now. No need. I'm extremely critical over my gadgets too btw but this device is flat out awesome.

I really love this cell phone cover! It is bright, colorful, and I can find it in my handbag. The only reason I am giving this a 4 instead of 5 stars is that the cover makes my screen protectors that I get from AT&T bubble at the edges. I have onother one like this one and it does the same thing. I am still looking for the perfect cover.
Thanks!

Samsung SPH M550 Exclaim - Cellular phone - CDMA2000 1X - slider / dual - blueberry - Sprint Nextel Review

Samsung SPH M550 Exclaim - Cellular phone - CDMA2000 1X - slider / dual - blueberry - Sprint Nextel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently got a Samsung Exclaim, and so far I'm very happy with it. I like the dual slideout keyboards, the way the screen re-orients from portrait to landscape, the way the phone automatically locks and unlocks the keypads. I can hear the people I'm talking with better than ever and they say I'm clearer and easier to understand. And if I need to turn the volume all the way up, it's the loudest phone I've owned.
I also really like the carousel navigation and the assignable shortcuts - it makes it a lot easier to get to what I want.
The only reason I didn't give the phone 5 stars is the ringtones - there aren't that many of them and there's a lot less variety than in my old phone. Still, I'd have given this phone 4.5 stars if it were possible.
Something that doesn't bother me but does bother some of my friends is that this is a thick and fairly heavy phone - I weighed it and it weighs 4.8 ounces where my old phone weighs 2.8 ounces. Since it has 2 keyboards, I expected that but my son found it too heavy and is planning to return his.
The Exclaim was just what I was looking for - a phone with all the regular features, good sound, a screen that can be used either vertically or horizontally and both a qwerty keyboard and regular 12-key number pad. While those looking for small phones or those with touch screens would probably be happier elsewhere, for me this phone delivered exactly what I wanted for a reasonable price!

Phone Features The Samsung Exclaim features a unique dual slider design that provides ultimate flexibility with its side-sliding full QWERTY keyboard and bottom-sliding alpha-numeric keypad. This phone features Sprint's One Click navigation interface, which places eight shortcut tiles along the bottom of the home screen. Instead of navigating through endless phone menus, you can put the things you use the most--features like call logs, texting, Web access and GPS navigation--right up front with instant information related to each feature. For example, when you scroll to text messaging, you'll see the number of new messages received and a single click takes take you to the newest messages. Here's how it works:
Add your favorite items to the carousel, which is a row of tiles along the bottom of your phone's home screen.
The carousel can hold up to 15 tiles, which you can add, remove and rearrange to suit your needs.
Highlight a tile to reveal its menu on your home screen.
Add up to 8 "bubbles"--at-a-glance items that display on your home screen, like the weather or your daily horoscope.
Browse and download new tiles from your phone's "Personalize Home Screen" tile. New tiles are available every two weeks.
Press your navigation left or right key to select a tile; up or down to select a bubble or menu item.
The "Home" tile always stays put, so you can easily get back to your default display.
The Exclaim is focused on social networking, with new interactive Facebook and MySpace tiles right on the home screen as part of the One Click interface. You can now add Twitter to their home screen using One Click as well.
Facebook tile: Provides One-Click access to share "What's on your mind," check status updates, monitor your news feed, manage your inbox and track the status of your friends.
MySpace tile: Offers the ability to update your status, monitor your friend lists, review your pictures and albums, manage your inbox and friend requests and track your comments.
Twitter tile: Allows you to post Tweets with one click, check updates for everyone you are following, see responses to your Tweets, manage the list of people you are following and those who are following you and see what the whole Twitter-verse is saying.

LG Cosmos VN-250 Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

LG Cosmos VN-250 Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
QUICK SUMMARY: My teenaged son reports he likes this new LG value-oriented phone. A few feature disappointments keep it from being a 5-star phone. Recommended!
BACKGROUND: My teenaged son picked out the LG Cosmos to replace the cast-off Samsung device I gave to him last summer when I upgraded my phone to the LG Env3. When the keys started falling off the Samsung, I relented and agreed to buy an upgraded phone for my son and his younger siblings to use (we have a "kids" phone shared by all my children). My son shopped at the local Verizon store, looking at value-oriented phones with a limited feature set. He knew he wasn't going to get that Droid phone. ;-)
What We LIKE:
- The slide-out keyboard is GREAT for texting! My son has gotten into texting, and the full keyboard makes texting MUCH easier and quicker for him. I know the pleasure of using a full keyboard, too, having upgraded my own phone to the LG Env3.
- Numeric keypad on the front lets you quickly dial phone numbers (or use speed dialing) without messing with the slide-out keyboard. No pocket dialing (yet, anyway).
- You don't need to buy a Verizon data plan with this phone. That was important to me, a parent, because I don't want the kids' phone to have unfiltered web access, so web access is blocked on their account. Some higher-end phones now *require* you to buy a data plan. The LG Cosmos is one of a few models (Samsung Intensity is another) with a full keyboard where you don't need to pay for a data plan.
- The LCD display orientation automatically changes to accommodate how you're using the phone. When you slide-out the keyboard, the display readjusts so it's aligned correctly with the long-edge of the phone. Slide-in the keyboard and the display readjusts to align with the short edge of the phone.
- My son says he likes the placement of the keys on this device (better than the Samsung Intensity, which he also sampled at the Verizon store). He also liked the menu navigation on the Cosmos, too.
- Bluetooth capability is a nice way to send phone pictures directly to our wireless photo printer.
What We Do **NOT** Like:
- Speed dialing settings get erased if you turn-off the Cosmos. My son reported this bug in the firmware (our Cosmos has version 1 of the firmware) and I verified the bug to be true. When we are next near a Verizon store, I'll see if LG has updated their firmware to fix this annoying bug. (UPDATE: Thanks to Vijay who posted a comment to this review, there is a 2nd way of adding speed dials, and the 2nd method doesn't exhibit this firmware bug. To correctly set speed dials, do this: Menu -> Contacts -> Speed Dial Settings).
- No video recording! Sheesh, I thought every phone automatically came with the ability to do picture-taking and video recording. The LG Cosmos, though, can't record videos. My son was mildly disappointed, but having a full keyboard outweighed this disappointment in his eyes.
- If you're used to a larger phone screen (like I am, since I have the LG Env3), the display size of the Cosmos seems really, really small. Even if my kids could use this phone to browse the web, it wouldn't be a fun experience at all.
- The camera is only a 1.3Mp. Even a value-oriented model ought to have a 2Mp sensor nowadays.
- Although it does have a full keyboard, the keys are pretty small -- bigger than some ridiculously small keyboards on certain Blackberries, but not nearly as nice as my LG Env3. My son is just happy to have a keyboard now, even if it's smallish.
Note: Initially, after we first got the phone, the battery needed recharging shortly after its first full charge. To give you an idea: after a few dozen text message sends/receives, the battery bar went from full to 3/4. In a day's worth of texting (and almost no voice calling), the battery expired on our Cosmos. HOWEVER, Li-Ion batteries don't reach their full potential until after several cycles of charging/discharging, and after a few charging/discharging cycles, the battery began exhibiting much improved battery life. I didn't have this same experience with my LG Env3 phone. After using this phone for a couple of weeks now, my son seems satisfied with the battery life he's getting from the LG Cosmos.
Be aware, too, that this phone can't play music like other phones can. My son never used this feature on the old Samsung phone, which could play music, so this isn't a dislike for him -- but it might be for you.
Conclusion: This phone is good for kids who love to text (and have an unlimited texting plan!). It's a value-oriented model that will disappoint you if you're used to a better-featured phone, but if you've been using an old Samsung phone with just a numeric keypad to send text messages to your friends, the LG Cosmos is a welcomed upgrade.

LG Rumor - Cellular phone - CDMA2000 1X - bar / slide-out keyboard - Sprint Nextel Review

LG Rumor - Cellular phone - CDMA2000 1X - bar / slide-out keyboard - Sprint Nextel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this phone for a few days, and I love the look and the qwerty keyboard. I did not think I would need it as much since I am not going to carry a vision (internet access) plan after the first month, but it makes text-entry a breeze. The interfaces when using the text-msg and online programs are clean and intuitive. Everything I tried did what I expected on the first try. Unfortunately my praise for the interface and usability ends there. The menu system for accessing settings and content is cumbersome and confusing. There are individual volume settings for almost every sound the phone could make, but when it comes to customizing those sounds or tweaking other features of the phone, the options are surprisingly lacking. I upgraded from a Sanyo RL-4920, and I miss being able to change my startup/shutdown sound or set a shortcut key to lock my phone.
By far, my biggest gripe with this phone is with the keyguard feature. First of all the only way to guard your keyboard is with the "auto-keyguard" function. It will activate after a few moments of inactivity. You can not adjust the timeout and you can't shut off the 'auto' part without disabling keyguard altogether. You can manually activate it, but only when the 'auto' is also turned on. Worst of all, the keyguard shuts off if you slide the keyboard open by a fraction of an inch. I carry my phone in my pocket and so far it has deactivated my keyguard more than half the time when sitting down or standing up, and a few times while just walking around. In my opinion this shortcoming is probably going to be the deal breaker for me. Unless you willing to use a case, a really strong rubber band, or always carry your phone in your hand, I'd recommend getting a different phone or plan on having your pocket/bag make a lot of phone calls for you.
I wish sprint had more than zero non-(flip/PDA) phones, but thats for a different review.

Samsung Gravity t459 Phone, White/Aqua (T-Mobile) Review

Samsung Gravity t459 Phone, White/Aqua (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Samsung Gravity is a candy bar style slider phone. Basically, if you use only the phone functions of the phone, you will probably never need the slider part of the phone. But if you are into texting and/or email, etc., you can access a full qwerty keyboard by sliding the phone side to side.
The phone was bought to replace an aging Nokia 5300. T-Mobile sent the phone with the usual assortment of user guides and quick-start guides, a wired mono-headset with microphone, and a home charger. No other accessories. I will have more to talk about that later.
The phone was easy to put together and power up. The back cover is much easier to get off than some other phones I have struggled with over the years. The SIM card goes into a slot in the battery compartment. The charger plugs into the phone through a multi-function port (more about this also later).
Once the battery was charged, it was time to transfer my contacts from my old phone to the new one. The easiest method I found was to use blue-tooth and transfer the contacts one by one. Others may be able to do this easier using some other method (such as using a PC in the middle), but with the accessories I had, it was either typing them in by hand or using blue-tooth to transfer them. I chose blue-tooth and there were no real problems in the transfer. All the contacts made it across without any issues. However, the Samsung Gravity will not allow you to do anything on the phone without a SIM card in it. Luckily, my old phone will function without a SIM card. Obviously you can't make phone calls without a SIM card, but since the manufacturers have chosen to cram so much functionality into these devices, I don't understand why they would cripple these devices by not allowing them to do any of this other functionality without a SIM card in the device. So, I had to take the SIM card out of my old phone, put it into this phone and then do the contacts transfer. If both the old and new phones had been crippled without a SIM card, it could have been a lot trickier.
The Gravity performs well as a phone. The sound is clear and there are no issues with call quality. It seems to be slightly less sensitive at grabbing a signal than the Nokia 5300, but this was only under marginal situations. Otherwise, they seem to be equivalent in being able to get and hold a signal. The setup of the phone itself is pretty easy with a well-laid-out menu and submenu structure that allows you to customize the phone's functions in many different ways.
The display is very bright and vibrant, and a pleasure to look at. The phone can be set up to dim the display after a set amount of idle time and then turn it off entirely after another interval of idle time. Note that when the display is off, it is completely off, not dimmed. This is a minor annoyance because you have to press some button to get the display turned on again to see if the phone is even on or not. There is absolutely no difference in appearance of the phone between when it has gone idle and when it is turned off entirely. I did not have much of a problem seeing the display outdoors, but in bright sunlight, you have to angle the screen the correct way to see things clearly.
The numeric keyboard on the top of the phone has raised keys and gives good tactile feedback on keypresses. The directional keys are also very easy to press without any problems.
The slider is very crisp to work with and once you have the slider open, the phone still feels solid. There is no wobble to the different parts of the phone and no feeling that the slider is going to fail after a few times of using it. The display automatically changes from portrait to landscape mode when the slider is opened and then back to normal when the slider is closed. The qwerty keys are also slightly raised and are easy to press individually without any problems. There is a shift key on the qwerty keyboard that allows you to enter capital letters and an Alt key that allows you to enter symbols like $ and %. You can also pull up a symbol screen that allows you to enter less commonly used symbols and emoticons.
The camera is only 1.3 MP, so don't expect professional quality results out of it. In any case, even if the camera were 7 MP, I doubt a lens the size of a grain of sand is going to produce exceptional results. So, if you want quality pictures, carry a regular camera with you. I found the pictures out of this phone decent and the shutter lag was acceptable.
The phone is capable of pulling email from various providers directly to your phone as text messages without any subscription to any data plan or any plan that gives you access to the web. You do have to subscribe to a plan that gives you some text messages unless you plan on just paying for email usage on a per-message basis. The email provider must provide POP access to the email. The phone lists a huge number of providers such as yahoo, GMail, Juno, AOL, etc. Setting up the user ID and password is easy and if the email provider has enabled POP access, you get access to your email right away. Note that many providers require you to subscribe to some paid premium version of the service to enable POP access to your email. GMail is a notable exception and I have had access to my GMail since the day I got the phone (you just have to turn on POP access to you GMail account from the settings).
But the email access is not without its flaws and/or idiosyncracies. First of all, by default, the phone only pulls up the headers of the emails (subject, sender, etc.) when you ask it to refresh the inbox. If you see a message you want to read, you highlight it and say "Read". The phone then downloads the message. Messages that are very large will have to be downloaded in parts. And don't expect to be zipping through them at speed. The downloads are slow, so you have to be patient.
The second issue I have faced could be more of a user-error issue than an actual phone issue: I have been able to send email only when the following two conditions are satisfied. 1. The email address is in the address book under some entry and 2. you have composed a message from scratch. I have not been able to reply to a received message so far and I have not been able to send email by just typing someone's email address in the to line of a message if that email address is not associated with a contact on the phone. When the conditions are not satisfied, the phone simply says "email sending failed" with no other explanation. I have to continue doing research into this. But so far, I find the ability to access my GMail very convenient and the fact that it costs me nothing extra is very good too.
Note that you can not do everything on the phone with your GMail email that you can do on a computer when you access the GMail website. You are basically not accessing the GMail website (the phone is pulling the emails out of GMail using POP and then presenting them to you in its own interface). So, you can not add labels to emails, check your spam folder, etc. When you delete the email on the phone, it deletes it on GMail also (even if the email has been archived already). You then have to go to the trash folder on GMail, pull the emails out and then re-archive them. I delete the emails on the phone because it makes it easier to go over 10 emails on the small screen than having to scroll over a few dozen of them if you never delete any of them (obviously, I don't know of any way to make them go away from the phone without deleting them, which may be another user issue rather than a phone issue).
Battery life on the phone has been excellent by my standards. I used to charge my Nokia 5300 at least every alternate day. The Gravity went without a recharge for 3 days while it was in new phone mode (that is, I was fiddling with it constantly, experimenting with features and settings, testing out various things, etc.). My wife, who got the identical phone, but in a different color, did not fiddle with her phone much and it is showing 4 bars out of 5 in the battery strength indicator after 3 days.
The phone does have its share of flaws. The first and foremost of these is the lack of accessories. This is probably a reflection on T-mobile than on Samsung. But the phone came with only a home charger and the wired mono-headset. No stereo headset even though it is a music player. No car charger. No SD card. NO USB cord to connect the phone to the computer. Not even a CD containing the software that you install on the PC to interface with the phone (I downloaded it from the Samsung website, but I have not installed it so far). Luckily, all these accessories are easy to locate online and they are inexpensive, but it would have been nice for at least some of them to be included with the phone. Also, the phone has no dedicated music player controls. You have to go through the menu to the music player and then various keys are remapped to music player controls.
Note that this phone only takes regular SD cards, not SDHC cards. I have found it easier to locate 2 GB SD cards rather than 4 GB ones even though the phone is capable of taking up to 4 GB (almost every 4 GB card I have seen is an SDHC card, not a regular SD card). Also, the phone has a single multi-function port (called a Samsung S20 port) that is used as a charging port, a headphone slot and a USB port on the phone. So, you can't listen to music when the phone is charging or connect it to the computer when you are using headphones etc. Obviously, you can't use standard 2.5 mm or 3.5 mm headphone jacks with this phone because of this S20 port. So, the headphones that came with my previous phones are just so much junk as far as this phone is concerned.
Hope I have covered pretty much everything about the phone that I think is important. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them as comments and I will try to answer to the best of my abilities.

Pantech Duo - Smartphone - 3G - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM - slider / dual - Windows Mobile - ATandT

I dropped my iphone in the sink, it sunk, and since a new version comes out in a month, I had to get something to tide me over---so I took a chance on the dreaded Microsoft and an often panned Pantech Duo. I've had it two weeks now and I have to say: this was a lucky find.
First of all, this is not a flimsy phone as has been reported. With two sliding keyboards (much like a magic trick!), it is amazingly solid. The screen is extremely bright and vivid. The QUERTY keyboard is small, but way better than a touch screen, however, there is almost no sense of feedback, so you still have to be careful.
Phone-wise, it sounds very good to me, and gets signal where Iphone couldn't. It has a bounty of software, including To-Do and various versions of OFFICE.3G internet access is pretty fast, nothing compared to a good laptop on a DSL, but usable.
I like that it is very easy to change ringers, from silent to normal to vibrate. The camera is just ok, but I don't really count on my phone to serve as my photographic equipment.
It's a little chunky, but its other dimensions are quite small.
All in all, I haven't seen a phone out there without a touch screen which is better. The ATT tilt is way bigger and heavier, and has no mechanical buttons for dialing.
I think most people would enjoy this phone. It does not sync with a Mac, by the way, unless you buy 3rd party software.Aside from that, it's a winner for me.

Palm Treo Pro Phone (Sprint) Review

Palm Treo Pro Phone (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really needed to share my experience with this cell phone because it is such a great phone.
Reception signal is much better than other cell phones that I had before.
The touch screen is very good, and the keyboard makes it easier and faster for txt'n and internet.
The size and weight are decent, it not bulky!
Applications can be downloaded, IM is already on the phone.
The reasons I didn't give 5 stars are the following:
- the touch screen feels somehow soft, so don't put too much pressure on it, however it is very responsive, and finally, i find it annoying to enter a web addr/link... I have to touch the screen on the part that the web page adr comes out more than a couple of times to be able to enter the addr...
Other than that, I really like and enjoy this phone... as it is 3g, the internet is fast, the battery can last for a while and it charges very fast.

Nokia X3 Slider GSM Quad-Band Unlocked Cell Phone with 3.5 MP Camera and 2 GB SD Slot Memory -- U.S. Version with Warranty (Blue) Review

Nokia X3 Slider GSM Quad-Band Unlocked Cell Phone with 3.5 MP Camera and 2 GB SD Slot Memory -- U.S. Version with Warranty (Blue)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This phone is an excellent choice for those who want a Music Phone. The Micro-SD slot can be expanded to 16GB and the sound quality is superb. On the left side of the screen it has dedicated music controls making controlling your tunes a breeze, you can leave you MP3 at home after you buy this phone. The phone itself is good too, sound quality is clear and the buttons are big, it also provides good feedback so you know what you have pressed. Like other Nokias battery life is strong, usually a full charge last 4 to 5 days with moderate talk time. The phone is really compact and light, sometimes I forget if it's in my pocket and have to pat it just to make sure I have it with me =)
The downside is the camera, it's practically useless in low light situations. Even in moderate light there are still lots of image noise, you can get away with it a little bit by it being 3.2 Megapixels thus always giving you high resolution but at 3.2 it takes quite a few seconds for it to process the picture. Also since it's not a 3G phone, using EDGE for web browsing is a bit on the sluggish side.
The bottom line is if you want a stylish, light, practically phone with good battery life and music capabilities then you can't go wrong with this Nokia. If you want something more powerful with full 3G then shop for something else.
To clear thing up only two large US wireless companies uses GSM: AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile so this phone will only work with them. Overseas GSM is the dominate technology so you can easily use this phone outside the US.

LG Shine CU720 - Cellular phone - 3G - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM - slider - red Review

LG Shine CU720 - Cellular phone - 3G - WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM - slider - red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
- Good sound quality.
- Good reception.
- It is a nice sleek looking phone. Really handsome with simple lines and shape. Has a nice feel on your palm. I like the color of my wife's "Shine" even better which is deep red. Mine is silver.
- MicroSD for additional memory.
- Capable to record short videos
- Long battery life (I tested the phone for a week without using the MP3 player and video. It lasted longer than my older phone which has a smaller screen). If you use the phone as an mp3 player, then that is another story.
- Bluetooth, games, calculator, notepad...
Cons:
- The joystick is not quite a joy to use.
- The back of the phone is too scratch prone.
- Keypad has grooves to to help with identifying the keys by touch but it is not as intuitive as a regular keypad. It is difficult for texting.
- Interface is a bit annoying. Got a little learning curve to get used to.
- Heavier than most phones.
Speaker phone is usable but does not sound very exciting. I like the easy slide that has a snap feel of the front cover to expose the keypad. It feels pretty solid.
The camera is OK. Very slow lens, but I am not really expecting much because most cell phones have extremely small lenses to gather enough light. 2 megs of resolution. Surprisingly it is equipped with a flash albeit it is tiny winy and almost next to useless. I am happy that It is big enough leap from my previous phone.
