(More customer reviews)Well, Since it appears someone gave one star for the fact that transitioning from an earlier version was a pain, I figured I should pipe in and say that when I got this phone, I was prepared for some of the headaches that come with upgrading technology - different chargers (we have a drawer full - an not just for the Blackberry), transferring data, I also tried to figure out how to get some of the unwanted apps off the phone, and finally created a folder called "Junk" and moved the unwanted ones in there. I'll figure it out eventually, but I won't let it ruin my day enough to take a star away for it. I followed the instructions to download the latest version of the BB operating system, and it has some nice new features, but if you're one of those who grumbles over changes, then be prepared to get accustomed to a very different interface. I do like that the new interface is more "PC-like". There is more functionality available straight from the home screen. The keypad is similar to the older Curves, but the function keys are a little smaller, and their location shifted a little. So far I haven't really had too much trouble thumb-typing with it. I still like this keypad better than the "virtual" keypad that pops up on touch-screen phones. We replaced our older Curves when my husband's trackball stopped working. This "trackball" is really a little touchpad - so no mechanics to gum up over time. All in all, for me, the transition was quite easy. For new users of the Curve, you will like it. For those transitioning, you'll have some adjustments to make.... and you'll have to get new charging cords... Sigh.

(More customer reviews)QUICK SUMMARY: My teenaged son reports he likes this new LG value-oriented phone. A few feature disappointments keep it from being a 5-star phone. Recommended!
BACKGROUND: My teenaged son picked out the LG Cosmos to replace the cast-off Samsung device I gave to him last summer when I upgraded my phone to the LG Env3. When the keys started falling off the Samsung, I relented and agreed to buy an upgraded phone for my son and his younger siblings to use (we have a "kids" phone shared by all my children). My son shopped at the local Verizon store, looking at value-oriented phones with a limited feature set. He knew he wasn't going to get that Droid phone. ;-)
What We LIKE:
- The slide-out keyboard is GREAT for texting! My son has gotten into texting, and the full keyboard makes texting MUCH easier and quicker for him. I know the pleasure of using a full keyboard, too, having upgraded my own phone to the LG Env3.
- Numeric keypad on the front lets you quickly dial phone numbers (or use speed dialing) without messing with the slide-out keyboard. No pocket dialing (yet, anyway).
- You don't need to buy a Verizon data plan with this phone. That was important to me, a parent, because I don't want the kids' phone to have unfiltered web access, so web access is blocked on their account. Some higher-end phones now *require* you to buy a data plan. The LG Cosmos is one of a few models (Samsung Intensity is another) with a full keyboard where you don't need to pay for a data plan.
- The LCD display orientation automatically changes to accommodate how you're using the phone. When you slide-out the keyboard, the display readjusts so it's aligned correctly with the long-edge of the phone. Slide-in the keyboard and the display readjusts to align with the short edge of the phone.
- My son says he likes the placement of the keys on this device (better than the Samsung Intensity, which he also sampled at the Verizon store). He also liked the menu navigation on the Cosmos, too.
- Bluetooth capability is a nice way to send phone pictures directly to our wireless photo printer.
What We Do **NOT** Like:
- Speed dialing settings get erased if you turn-off the Cosmos. My son reported this bug in the firmware (our Cosmos has version 1 of the firmware) and I verified the bug to be true. When we are next near a Verizon store, I'll see if LG has updated their firmware to fix this annoying bug. (UPDATE: Thanks to Vijay who posted a comment to this review, there is a 2nd way of adding speed dials, and the 2nd method doesn't exhibit this firmware bug. To correctly set speed dials, do this: Menu -> Contacts -> Speed Dial Settings).
- No video recording! Sheesh, I thought every phone automatically came with the ability to do picture-taking and video recording. The LG Cosmos, though, can't record videos. My son was mildly disappointed, but having a full keyboard outweighed this disappointment in his eyes.
- If you're used to a larger phone screen (like I am, since I have the LG Env3), the display size of the Cosmos seems really, really small. Even if my kids could use this phone to browse the web, it wouldn't be a fun experience at all.
- The camera is only a 1.3Mp. Even a value-oriented model ought to have a 2Mp sensor nowadays.
- Although it does have a full keyboard, the keys are pretty small -- bigger than some ridiculously small keyboards on certain Blackberries, but not nearly as nice as my LG Env3. My son is just happy to have a keyboard now, even if it's smallish.
Note: Initially, after we first got the phone, the battery needed recharging shortly after its first full charge. To give you an idea: after a few dozen text message sends/receives, the battery bar went from full to 3/4. In a day's worth of texting (and almost no voice calling), the battery expired on our Cosmos. HOWEVER, Li-Ion batteries don't reach their full potential until after several cycles of charging/discharging, and after a few charging/discharging cycles, the battery began exhibiting much improved battery life. I didn't have this same experience with my LG Env3 phone. After using this phone for a couple of weeks now, my son seems satisfied with the battery life he's getting from the LG Cosmos.
Be aware, too, that this phone can't play music like other phones can. My son never used this feature on the old Samsung phone, which could play music, so this isn't a dislike for him -- but it might be for you.
Conclusion: This phone is good for kids who love to text (and have an unlimited texting plan!). It's a value-oriented model that will disappoint you if you're used to a better-featured phone, but if you've been using an old Samsung phone with just a numeric keypad to send text messages to your friends, the LG Cosmos is a welcomed upgrade.

LG KC910 Renoir Touch Screen 8MP Camera Wifi GPS Unlocked Tri Band (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I've had the LG KC910 Renoir - Unlocked QuadBand Cellular Phone - 8 MP Camera, GPS, WiFi, FM Radio - International Version with No Warranty for about a week, and it's been a relatively good experience. At first, there was a bit of a learning curve; however, in the end, I have decided that this is a great phone. The problems I encountered dealt with the charger I received, setting up the Internet, and the auto-lock feature.
First, the charger. When I received the phone last week I discovered one fatal flaw with my purchase, the wall charger was made for charging this phone in another country (I'm in the US). Fortunately, you can charge your phone via a USB cable to your computer. I also ran into trouble with this, but as it turns out, I was using the wrong USB slot. The USB slot on the right only kept the phone alive (it wouldn't charge the battery); fortunately, the USB slot on the left would charge the phone. Whatever. You can easily find a wall charger for this phone at a retail store if you want.
The auto-lock feature isn't a bad idea; sadly, it can be incredibly annoying. I suppose this was made to keep you from accidentally dialing 911 or something. But it doesn't really work right. The solution? Just turn it off; your touch screen will go into sleep mode when you're not using it, and it will not come on if you touch the screen. It will come on if you push one of the three buttons on the bottom of the phone. Still, it would be incredibly difficult to accidentally dial 911 or something even without the auto-lock feature. Unfortunately, if you have to call and push buttons on your phone during your conversation, then the auto-lock still comes on. You just have to push the auto-lock icon, and it will go away (at least for a while). I don't know if that part of the auto-lock system can be turned off. Strange, I know.
Ah, the Internet settings. I'm using AT&T, and transferring the sim card into this phone was easy. The phone immediately worked when it came to calling people. By the way, reception was great for me. I've read about people who said the call quality was lacking. I don't know about their experience, but I had no problems. Anyway, the Internet is the one part of the phone that wouldn't work. I finally stumbled upon how to do it the other day, and it works great now. Here's how I got the Internet to work:

Other Thoughts -
The camera phone is great (not dslr quality but good), the battery is okay, the touchscreen is decent, the eight gigabyte chip (microsdhc class 4) works well, sound quality is good, the included headphones are worthless; wifi works well. Is this phone an iPhone killer? Probably not, but it's definitely close.
Week Two Update -
It appears that the LG wall charger I bought at the retail store may have ruined my battery. It was exactly the same as the one that was sent with my phone, other than the fact that it works in the US instead of England. I managed to find another battery online, so hopefully this will correct the problem. It does seem that the battery I've been using has been problematic. I've only successfully charged it with the usb port on my computer, and that was tricky as well. So be careful when you charge this phone in the US.
Final Update -
The battery is working properly now. Not sure what happened but I wont be using that wall charger again. Everything else is good.

(More customer reviews)Wow, I usually don't write reviews but this screen protector is awesome. I ordered the one from Bargain Cell and it makes the screen so much better. It gives the screen a sort of a non-greasy feel, and it lets your finger slide over it real smooth and dry.
I really wasn't expecting much when I ordered it, but it is one of the best screen protectors I have used. It was easy to apply and you don't even notice it on the phone. (Of course if you take the time to apply it correctly.)
Do yourself a favor and get this if you have the phone.

Unlike some others I've seen this one has a whole for the camera so you can take photos while the phone is still in the case. I also needed a car charger and I keep the wall charger at work, I use my sync cable at home to charge my phone.
*CAR CHARGER - 5 out of 5: To put is simply it just works. It has a small green light on the charger to let you know it has power.
*WALL CHARGER - 5 out of 5: Again, it works properly.
*WALLET CASE - 4 out of 5: I like the look and the feel of the case. I'm able to charge my phone and plug in my headphones without taking my phone out of the case. The leather feels very soft and smooth and the inside has some sort of very fine cloth or something. The snaps seems to work very well, it never unbuckles it's self while it's in my pocket. Also theres a small metal whole near the very top on the side. You can hook-up a wallet-chain to it.
NOW THE BAD :(
When you have the wallet open the phone is able to move a little. The area where the phone is held should have been a very centimeters small. Also there is only one sleve for your credit cards, money and what nots. It would have been nice to have 3 or 4 credit card holders and a zipper compartment for your money. All in all it's a great deal and an good wallet case.

(More customer reviews)This is an initial review of the ROKR E6, as I only had it a couple hours.
The phone so far seems great, only minor points of improvement. The first thing anyone should know is these phones are initially for the Chinese market and when you get the phone and turn it on, everything is in Chinese. To get the phone into English requires navigation to the setup menu and changing the system language setting from its default of Chinese to English. Remember, everything is in Chinese so a little educated guesswork of using the interface is in order since you cannot read anything. It is also not covered in the instruction manuals. Once you get this first detail out of the way, everything becomes much smoother.
The phone I upgraded from was the RAZR V3, and this I must say is much better a phone, it too early but I not seen the problems I had with the RAZR, shutting off and rebooting, etc when you are trying to make a call.
The ROKR E6 is a linux based phone, but you would not know it when you turn the device on. If you wish to get the Linux command line, you have to go hunting for the terminal emulation program for it. I've not found it yet.
One nifty feature is the handwriting recognition, having been a Palm user, I had no problems adapting to it, there are some differences in the handwriting recognition versus the Palm, but they should not pose a problem for experienced users. The recognition setting comes initially set to slow, I switched it to medium but it still is slower than my stylus skills, so I might have to set it to fast and see if that improves it rate of recognition so I can not have to wait between writing one letter before writing the next.
I've paired it with my Palm TX and my Plantronics Voyager 510, without any problem. However, I've not seen the option of dropping the bluetooth connection with the device and the handset. As the device is new I assume I've not located it yet. It would be a cumbersome deal if one has to turn off bluetooth completely when you do not want to use the headset.
The bundled applications are all basic when it comes to PDA functionality. So if you are a power user you will quickly be looking for third party applications to fit your needs. I bought it because it is Linux, so I will be looking for a couple items myself, especially a programming language interpreter. Something others will not need, so this is just a personal need.
Taking photographs with it is pretty easy. However, I would not use this to replace my digital camera, the shots while good, lack a flash for dark areas when using it, and is slightly blurred, nowhere near as good as my Canon digital camera.
The good side of having this device is not having to walk around with my Palm, a cell phone and a digital camera. This device can serve all these functions. Yes, not at the same level of features and proficiency but very well adequately for one's daily needs.
One feature, I do wish it had was Wi-fi/802.11g capability, so that I could use it to connect to the internet and sync with my home network. A feature that should be looked at seriously, rather than having it available only on the very high end expensive phones.
The phone does not come packaged with a case, so that will be the other item you will start searching for after you get this phone.
I read a review once that the menus are too small to navigate with your fingers, I have found it to be false and most options and menu items can be easily be fingered.
So in conclusion, lacking the time to tell how worthy this phone is. You will get a phone that is impressive, feature rich, and can serve multi roles adequately. Only time will tell how reliable this phone is.

LG Rumor 2 Phone, Titanium (Sprint) Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned both the Rumor and the Rumor2, and I'm torn between which I like better. The first big difference is the QWERTY pad - the original did not have a dedicated number line or a smiley button, both of which are nice. However, having spent almost a year with the Rumor, I'm having to re-learn where certain buttons are (namely the enter button, and that there's also a dedicated period button), but that's to be expected with any new phone.
I do miss my camcorder on the original Rumor. Had I spent more time at the store (yes, Sprint Customer Service was driving me nuts and I just wanted to get out of there with my wallet intact), I would have noticed that it didn't have a camcorder, and might have gone with a different phone.
However, that is more than made up for by the threaded text messaging (very nice when you're trying to recall a conversation, so you don't have to keep jumping between the inbox and sent box), as well as the onslaught of alarms. The original Rumor had 3 alarms plus a quick (1min, 10min, 30min, 1hr). The Rumor 2 has 5 alarms, plus a "Walk the Dog" alarm (as well as three different ringers revolving around walking your dog), and the quick alarm. Probably my favorite feature? Once again, the microSD capacity has been bumped up - this time to 16gigs!!! I'm still working to fill my 4gig that I had in the Rumor, but I suppose that once 16gig cards drop in price the way the 2s and 4s have, I'll find myself buying a bigger card. Beware, though, with a bigger card and more music, it takes longer and longer to load the music player.
Speaking of which, the music player has some nice updates from the original Rumor as well. Again, as someone who's been through way too many phones (9 in the last 4 years, to be exact), I have had the Fusic with it's music player (by far my favorite), the Musiq with it's player (the Java based piece of junk, which was only good because I could put the player in the background and still use my phone 100% for other apps), the Rumor (very basic player, just with shuffle & repeat functions), and now this one. It's still closest to the original Rumor in that I can't create different playlists (at least, in the 24 hours of owning it, I haven't found a way to yet), but it does have the option of playing songs in a list or having it shown as a player with the song information and time remaining. Again, still pretty basic, but a ton better than the original Rumor.
Overall, I'm just happy that I have a phone that isn't quirky (yet), one that has a killer QWERTY and text layout, and one that takes pretty decent pics for a 1.3 camera. Again, lots of alarm choices, the music player's decent, and not too much new to learn from the original Rumor. If I find anything else worth mentioning, I'll try to remember to bring it up :)
