Samsung Gravity T t669 Phone, Steel (T-Mobile) Review

Samsung Gravity T t669 Phone, Steel (T-Mobile)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the phone yesterday. At first I was unsure how I felt about this phone. On the one hand it looks great, but I having trouble deciding if I really liked it. After a full 24 hours with the phone I love it. It takes some time to get used to all the different functions, but what new phone doesn't have a learning curve? The curve was easy and within a few short hours I was texting, calling and checking my Facebook status along with a number of other favorite websites.
For the price it is a great deal. I had always wanted a blackberry, but was turned off by having to purchase a data plan from T-Mobile, with this phone I can get the data plan for only 10 dollars a month, and they gave me the first 30 days free to see if I like the web features enough to keep them. Certainly I do at that price. I would recommend this phone to anyone in the market.
ONE YEAR LATER
I have now had this phone a little over a year. Actually I have had two of these phones. It appears that they are only good for about six months. The first one crapped out on mean right around the six month mark. It would just randomly turn off without cause. TMobile replace it and now just abour 6 months into the second one problems are again arising. I am constantly having to reset the phone to get service, the touch screen seems to be stuck more often that not and the internet has slowed to a crawl. Look elsewhere for a new phone.

In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the via T-Mobile's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"). This high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology is fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services (with average data speeds between 75-135Kbps), including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and e-mail on the go.

Activities that work best on a 3G network:

HSPA+ provides our fastest data speeds, up to 3 times faster than AT&T and Verizon's standard 3G networks, while allowing simultaneous voice and data capabilities for the ultimate wireless voice and data experience.

Casio G'zOne Brigade C741 Phone (Verizon Wireless) Review

Casio G'zOne Brigade C741 Phone (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this phone as a replacement upgrade to a LG Voyager, with the touch screen. It was 2 and a half years old, wasn't working as well as it used to. It was my 3rd LG phone. As durable as they were, I had been looking for a more durable replacement, or addition I could use while working. Two years I considered other Casio Gz'One phones as a secondary phone. Their reputations weren't bad. Some minor reliability issues. The biggest turnoff was the added expense. Until I saw this in the Verizon store, and I had an epiphany. It did everything my LG Voyager did, but was armored against everything I would throw against it while working(or playing). The two biggest negatives people say about it is it is too bulky, and it is ugly. The people who said this are obviously shallow, and conceited and are afraid of someone seeing them with it in public. Its lighter then most Nextel phones. And the coverage is way better. No other phone shares the features this does. As for the price, this phone has to be built to a higher standard then most phones. You are paying for water tight O rings. Design, and durability. It isnt as pretty as a Droid, or quick as a Nokia N900. It is a tool, for working class people. You can rely on it in the worst scenarios to call for help, your Mom and your significant other to buy milk on their way home. It just works. Even if it falls in the puddle next to your car on a cold winter morning. Lets see a Droid, or ANY other phone do that.

Sanyo Incognito SCP-6760 Phone, Black (Sprint) Review

Sanyo Incognito SCP-6760 Phone, Black (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this along with a new 2 year contract with Sprint in Austin Texas. So all my observations are based on that network.
When i was looking for a phone there were several key features. I wanted a full keyboard for Texting. I wanted a real number pad on the front so I didn't have to hunt and peck on sub sized keys to use my cell phone for actually making a call. I didn't want it to be too big because I always carry it in my pocket. I wanted a good keygaurd to prevent accidental calls from my pocket (previously I had used flip phones). Beyond that reception and battery life were important.
The Sanyo Incognito seems like the perfect combination of what I wanted.
Overview
The Icognito is a slick looking phone, when not active the key face is totally slick black with beveled edges. When you activate the front face they "keys" light up. The Front keys are touch sensitive spots on the face, you don't really press them so much as tapping them on a keyboard. The keys are electostatically activated which means that you can't peck them out using a pencil or a glove, it takes a bare finger or other body part (or special devices).
The screen can be locked or unlocked with a slider switch on the left hand side (you flick it and it returns to position automatically). I find the switch to be a little on the small side but your unlikely to flick it by accident. If you have keygaurd on you have to flick this switch to answer or make a call and at the end of the call (because the keygaurd goes back on after a number of seconds) you have to flick the switch again if you want to hit end call. Slightly annoying.
Pressing the keys takes a little getting used to, they are VERY sensitive. Each time you tap a key it activivates the vibrate mechanism so that you get some type of tactile feedback (the whole phone vibrates) when you tap a key.
After a few days use you begin to get used to the whole thing (hitting the right keys, using the keygaurd, not hitting keys by accident). Its not as good as a real keypad with real buttons but its slick.
One downside I found is that if you are in a very, very high moisture environment (I just got out of the shower in steamy bathroom) the front keypad will not work. The condensation on the unit prevented it from detecting the bodys electrostic signals. I took it out of the room and wiped it off and it worked fine.
Another issue I have with the front keypad is it doesn't have full functionality. You can't T9 Text, assign functions to the arrows and some other stuff I could do with a conventional sanyo keypad. Also the "glow" goes away after a few seconds of not using it (saves power) but if your tapping in PIN numbers or navigating a phone menu this key be annoying (hit 2 to leave a message, ahhh, where is 2?) as you have to do something to activiate the light, then hit your buttons.
Looking at the right side of the phone (the left side has nothing other than keygaurd) there are several buttons. One seems to call up most recent history, there is the volume control, the Micro SD card slot (comes with a 1Gig card) and the charging/data port. Uses the Micro USB format charger.
Flipping it open revels the real beauty of the phone. A generously sized QWERTY keyboard (be cell phone standards) and a nice 320x240 screen. They keys on the keyboard have a nice tactile response. There are keys dedicated to common IM/Texting things (smiley face, @, ? and period. For less common symbols there is a FN key that lets you use the marked symbols on the key. Clicking FN will make your next key click the symbol, you don't have to hold it down uless you want multiple symbols. There is a 4 way navigator pad with central OK button. One touch buttons for camera, text messaging and speakerphone.
The screen and UI are nice. Its not an Iphone but nice. There is a floating strip (called the carosel) across the bottom that lets you have shortcuts to items like the web, facebook, any of the phone tools, settings, other websites etc. Really nice if your doing facebook or twitter updates. It can be personalized. The screen is sharp and crisp. In BRIGHT sunlight it is still a little dim as are the keys on the front keypad. Still usable but not vibrant.
The back of the phone contains the camera and the speaker. The camera is a 2mp CMOS unit and doesn't take especially great pictures. The speaker is pretty good. No flash or mirror for self portraits. Also the placement of the camera is such that when you activate it (By opening the keyboard and pressing buttons) your finger is usually covering it. You have to remember to move your finger. The placement of the camera button while using it is a little awkward as well. If taking really great camera phone pictures is your thing this isn't your best choice.
Functionality
So it's a cool phone but how well does it work. The answer is pretty good.
As a cell phone it has decent reception and battery life. My previous Sanyo (a basic flip model and a earlier version of the Katana) had slightly better reception but this one is pretty good. No real complains in the Austin area. The volume and clarity of the speaker are average, it could certainly be louder and clearer. It is comfortable enough in the hand and thick enough to clamp between the check and shoulder. T
Battery life is good, seems to run about 3.5 days of normal use (at least 5-10 calls and 10 texts a day). Recharge time is a few hours.
Texting is great. The full keyboard with generously sized keys makes typing a breeze (for a cell phone). The screen is nice and easy to read. Texts are threaded by contact and date. Adding attachments to a text would be fairly easy but they do consume KB and are not covered under just the text plan.
As far as web surfing, GPS and internet use, I don't know. I didn't subscribe to the data package because its not worth it right now. Looks like status updates and uploading pictures from the phone would be a breeze and I'm sure email would be nice.
So to Recap
Pro's
Slick design, very clean lines
Full QWERTY Keyboard with great keys and a few extras
Decent reception and battery life
Good UI
Excellent Texter
Cons
Front touch panel has issues and lacks some functionality it could have.
Keyguard is a bit annoying
Camera is poorly placed and pictures are not top quality (even for a cellphone).
(All relate to compromises for the slick design).
Conclusion
If you are looking for a cool slick phone and you do a lot of texting and/or email this phone is an excellent choice. It's a texters dream. Its got a rich feature set, good UI, decent reception and battery life and the best cell phone keyboard I've ever pecked on. Its not a one trick wonder either, it handles all of its tasks well and doesn't leave you wanting for much.
If your not doing significant texting or email there are better choices for phones unless your just in love with the style. It's a capable web browser but other phones with a larger touch sensitive screen would work better.
But for what I wanted and what I use it for this phone was one of the best phones out there.

Sprint's Award-Winning One Click InterfaceThis phone features Sprint's One Click navigation interface, which places eight shortcut tiles along the bottom of the home screen. Instead of navigating through endless phone menus, you can put the things you use the most--features like call logs, texting, Web access and GPS navigation--right up front with instant information related to each feature. For example, when you scroll to text messaging, you'll see the number of new messages received and a single click takes take you to the newest messages. Here's how it works:
Add your favorite items to the carousel, which is a row of tiles along the bottom of your phone's home screen.
The carousel can hold up to 15 tiles, which you can add, remove and rearrange to suit your needs.
Highlight a tile to reveal its menu on your home screen.
Add up to 8 "bubbles"--at-a-glance items that display on your home screen, like the weather or your daily horoscope.
Browse and download new tiles from your phone's "Personalize Home Screen" tile. New tiles are available every two weeks.
Press your navigation left or right key to select a tile; up or down to select a bubble or menu item.
The "Home" tile always stays put, so you can easily get back to your default display.

LG Rumor LG260 Phone, White (Sprint) Review

LG Rumor LG260 Phone, White (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
-Uses Sprint Vision (Not Power vision - EV-DO) so I didn't need to change my plan. -but this may be a con for others-
-Qwerty key pad
-1.3 Mp camera
- Applications: Facebook, Aim, Instant messenger, Email, internet.
-Micro Sd slot so you can store more music and pictures
-Bluetooth
-size and weight is great and the raised buttons make it easier to dial.
-music player sounds pretty goodCons:
*Some of my con's are quiet specific to things that I usually want/need in a phone, and didn't realized until after I had received the phone. Its still a good phone, but I would be happier if it had some improvements.
-Camera doesn't have a flash.
-Glitches in photo program. If you select pictures to save to your phone (either via online albums or pictures sent) it may save the photos you didn't want, or will just save the first photo 3 times, instead of the 3 different photos you selected.
-QWERTY key pad should have a button for the period, you need to "shift" then hit the period.
-The typing software can use some improvement, such as predicting words and such. The feature is there but lacks accuracy.
-Screen needs better resolution & colors. currently 176x220 pixel resolution.
-*Can't use own music (on SD card) as ringtones,
-*Difficult/can't use own pictures (from SD card) as the background/screen-saver.. I still can't figure it out.
-*Short cut navigation key for some reason the category "My content" doesn't let you make a shortcut for the sections within it. I want a shortcut key to Google maps, which is within 'my content', but it doesn't allow it, the best it will do is let you shortcut to 'my content' and then you have to scroll from there which is kinda annoying..
-*The idle/key lock screen is always the black screen with the time that you can't change.
-*There isn't a flashing light to tell you of a missed alert, until you click on a button and see the black/keylock screen. Else the phone just looks like its sleeping, so you have to consistently click on the buttons to see if you've missed any alerts. Pictures you take with the phone look pretty well (granted you have the prefect lighting) on the computer, but everything on its low resolution screen makes photos seemed washed out and blurry.

I travel frequently back to the UK so this phone works great for me. It is quad-band and GSM phone which means it has a removable sim card that I can use a pay as you go sim card when I go back to the UK, and then switch it back while back in the US. Unfortunately your limited to AT&T or T-Mobile in the US as the other carriers don't use GSM phones, not sure why?. The phone itself which I bought in the UK has an adapter for 110/220v for charging in other countries which is a nice touch from LG (I once fried a US adapter by plugging it into a UK socket, duh!). It comes with a screen protector and the casing feels nice and not too cheap. The touch screen itself is bright and easy to navigate and the inclusion of a stylus that fits in the base of the phone makes it very handy when texting. The phone houses a slot for a micro SD card up to 8gb, which is ample for mp3's and photo's or video's. I don't like that you have to use the supplied headphones in order to listen to music as they aren't that good and would have preferred the ability to use third party phones.
Camera quality isn't that great, but like most phone cameras the quality is grainy, I only use it rarely as I have a good quality digital camera for that. Overall it's a great little phone that is considerably cheaper and less bulkier than the i phone. And if you need accessories then eBay is the place to go, I picked up a great leather case that fits perfectly, and a car charger. I have had the phone now for 7 months and am pleased with it so far.
Update: I recently flashed the phones firmware to the latest version which is V10n and the phone is so much better.
The touch screen works a lot better than before and the slide bar can now be used without having to press hard.
The firmware install is a little tricky and can only be done on a windows operating system, but is well worth the time as the phone's performance is so much better. Do a search for KP 500 firmware v10n update.

I completely disagree with other reviewer. Once you learn the basic functions of this phone, its as intuitive as any other gadget. And the term intuitive, at least to me, is based on what each person determines it is. Anyways, one of my favorite features of my phone is this has 3 home screens which you can place different widgets on, and scroll to them when you wish. On the main page I have time and date, my secondary I have alarm, music player, and phone mode, and third one I have my fm radio dialer, facebook, and birthday widget. The screen is gorgeous and the colors rival my ipod touch. The camera takes good pictures, and so-so video, but then again I rarely use it for that anyways. You can save either to the phone or the the micro SD card. Another great feature is that while typing text, when you turn it sideways, it automatically changes to a horizontal qwerty keyboard.
There are other great things about this phone, and all-in-all, a very good deal for the cost. Any web capable-video and photo camera-a wide variety of widgets-you'd be hard pressed to find a comparable deal for what this one sells for. A strong competitor if you ask me.

Motorola w755 Phone, Purple (Verizon Wireless) Review

Motorola w755 Phone, Purple (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, maybe I liked my Motorola KRZR a little too much. I really LOVED that phone. And then I lost it. Yep, could have killed myself. But, I had to get a new phone and I got this one.
The first thing it did was pinch me when I opened it. You have to be careful of that. The volume buttons on the side of the phone are in a bad place. I keep screwing up the volume when I talk. The same buttons adjust the ring volume, so I have set my phone to vibrate on more than one occasion, missing calls. The screen is also smaller, and I found the KRZR a little easier to navigate. I also liked the size of the KRZR. This phone seems clunky.
This phone does get the job done, but I expected more from it since it was made by Motorola. Somehow, it just feels cheap.
I am looking for another KRZR, but Verizon doesn't seem to have those anymore.

Samsung SPH M550 Exclaim - Cellular phone - CDMA2000 1X - slider / dual - blueberry - Sprint Nextel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently got a Samsung Exclaim, and so far I'm very happy with it. I like the dual slideout keyboards, the way the screen re-orients from portrait to landscape, the way the phone automatically locks and unlocks the keypads. I can hear the people I'm talking with better than ever and they say I'm clearer and easier to understand. And if I need to turn the volume all the way up, it's the loudest phone I've owned.
I also really like the carousel navigation and the assignable shortcuts - it makes it a lot easier to get to what I want.
The only reason I didn't give the phone 5 stars is the ringtones - there aren't that many of them and there's a lot less variety than in my old phone. Still, I'd have given this phone 4.5 stars if it were possible.
Something that doesn't bother me but does bother some of my friends is that this is a thick and fairly heavy phone - I weighed it and it weighs 4.8 ounces where my old phone weighs 2.8 ounces. Since it has 2 keyboards, I expected that but my son found it too heavy and is planning to return his.
The Exclaim was just what I was looking for - a phone with all the regular features, good sound, a screen that can be used either vertically or horizontally and both a qwerty keyboard and regular 12-key number pad. While those looking for small phones or those with touch screens would probably be happier elsewhere, for me this phone delivered exactly what I wanted for a reasonable price!

Samsung Mythic a897 Phone (AT&T) Review

Samsung Mythic a897 Phone (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was really hesitant to buy this phone due to the conflicting reviews I read from various sources. I wanted to replace my Samsung Eternity, which I really loved, but as time went on I found that not having voice dial was a real annoyance, making my blue tooth headset virtually useless. Then again, I didn't like the idea of giving up a speedier interface. I made my decision. After getting the Mythic, I'm happy to announce that all my reservations were put to rest. This phone is everything the Eternity was, except that everything I felt that needed improvement was realized in the Mythic. No regrets here! My major complaint is that Samsung's New PC Studio no longer provides support for backing up your address book, or your calendar events. I'm sure this has more than a little to do with at&t's desire to charge you $3.00 per month to do this for you (address book only). You may want to think twice about filling up the 2000 entry capable contact list on the Mythic. If fact, the biggest problem with this phone is that just about every application it offers will suck you dry with a monthly fee, as opposed to a one-time purchase for it. Even Mobile Email with cost you $5.00 per month now. I guess we're just not paying enough for cell phone service these days. If you want your Outlook Express email on your phone, get a Gmail account with Google, set up their IMAP server, and you can link up with your email and make it look like you're sending and receiving from your Outlook account. Once you're all set up, simply import your contacts from Outlook Express to Gmail, then bookmark Google's link to their Gmail into your phone's browser, or download their Gmail app to your phone for free. All your contacts from Outlook will be available either way. UPDATE: After reading a post by E. McGlynn, I can confirm that "New PC Studio version 1.2.1 IH1" will allow you to back up your contacts and calendar events. Why this version isn't packaged with the Mythic is beyond me, except for maybe the reasons stated above. Thank you, E. McGlynn, so much for your valuable post. Here are some of my impressions of the Mythic:
The Interface - Yes, the interface isn't as snappy as it is on the Eternity, but you will forget about this when you see the gorgeous 3.3", 360x640 pixel screen. I'm guessing this has something to do with the sluggishness, due to the increased amount of picture data that has to be switched around to form a new screen, or change from landscape to portrait mode. If this is so, it's a worthwhile trade-off. The print on web pages is so sharp; I don't need to zoom in to read the smallest. If you're switching from a phone like the Eternity to the Mythic, you just need to learn to relax and slow down a bit when touching your way around the screen.
The Touch Screen - There is definitely a learning curve with the touch screen. At first I thought there were times it was unresponsive, and sometimes it still does seem to be, but after a little experience with the phone, these "unresponsive times" are few and far between. The screen is not only sensitive to touch, but also to how long you touch it for. This is necessary so you're not always moving widgets all over the place every time you swipe the screen. When using the browsers (there are two), a prolonged touch will give you more options on the screen. If you're somewhere in between with your touch, I feel that this can sometimes confuse the software as to what your intent is, so it does nothing. So you need to practice. Whether you're on the home screens, or the menu screens, there are 3 horizontal dashes, side by side, at the top of the screen. When on home screen 1 (or menu screen 1), the first dash highlights. Screen 2, the second dash highlights, etc.. When swiping your finger across the screen to change it, it's very easy to activate the widgets, causing great frustration. Swipe too hard, you activate the widgets, too soft, the screen doesn't move. Solution: swipe your finger or thumb across those dashes at the top of the screen. This works so well, it leads me to believe that this was Samsung's intent. It only takes the slightest pressure to move the screens, first time, every time!
The Virtual Keyboard - I love this keyboard. As much as I liked the Eternity's, this one is better. The keys are offset like a computer keyboard, as opposed to block style, and there are spaces between the keys. The keyboard is plenty roomy enough, and I make much fewer mistakes on it than my previous phone. I can move right along on it with no lag. When changing the keyboard from portrait mode to landscape mode, there is more lag time than I'm used to on the Eternity, but guess what....I compared it to my nephew's iPhone, and the lag time is the same. Texting is a breeze with this phone. If you're in a hurry and need to type super fast, keep the T9 on. It will work like an auto-correct feature.
The Camera and Video - Sorry to say, the Eternity, at 3 mpix, no auto-focus and no flash, takes better pictures under more conditions than the 3.2 mpix Mythic WITH auto-focus and a flash. In fact, I'm finding that the auto-focus is just a time consuming farce. I've been taking identical pictures using the auto-focus, and then just taking the picture without waiting, and there is no difference. If I crop a picture, I find that sometimes the result is clearer WITHOUT the auto-focus. Nice try, Samsung. There were times when my Eternity, under best conditions, took pictures that rivaled those taken with my camera. The pictures on the Mythic can at times be very good, but mostly they are a little fuzzy. Subjects at the edges of the pictures will suffer a little with barrel distortion, but I've found this true with any camera-phone I've owned. Any movement by your subject will show up as a blur in the photo. Under very dark lighting conditions, the Mythic wins over the Eternity, due to its flash, but the pictures will be grainy and the colors will be distorted and washed out. Having said all this, many people will find the pictures to be very good, and in all fairness, they are better than on some popular smart phones I've seen that have 5 mpix. The video recorder on the phone is just adequate. Along with two resolution choices, there are three viewing modes: Small (picture box), Medium (fills screen top to bottom), and Distorted (fills screen left to right). This last mode is horribly pixilated with choppy motion. You choose the mode with the little box in the upper left with the circle in the middle and the arrows radiating out towards the four corners. Oddly enough, the playback of the videos defaults to the worst viewing mode. UPDATE: The default viewing mode for video playback can be changed during the playback of a video. Simply touch the edit icon (the lined page on top of the horizontal pencil)at the bottom-left of the screen, and you'll see the "Display Mode" button. Touch this and choose your new default viewing mode.
The Internet - There are two browsers on this phone. There's the Mobile Web, which at&t seems to promote with its dedicated widget, and then there's simply "Browser" over in applications. Mobile Web is powered by Opera Mini. You must choose your viewing mode, landscape or portrait, mobile or HTML. You do this in "settings". This browser does a very nice job rendering web pages. It's also the more finicky one when it comes to touch. At first I was touching links three or four times to activate them. You really need to get the hang of it. Once you do, you'll find it's very responsive with the quickest and lightest of touches. The other browser is the old, familiar one I had on the Eternity. It automatically changes from landscape to portrait, but chooses how the page will load best. This is the browser that the Facebook widget uses. Sometimes the Facebook page loads extra tiny for some unexplained reason. When this happens, the screen can respond strangely when you try to navigate. It will seem to freeze, but then "catch up" and start moving on it own. Luckily, this happens only sporadically. This browser also allows you open multiple web pages at one time, for tabbed browsing. Also, any links you bookmark with this browser are stored in the "Favorites" widget on the widget tool bar. Both browsers have their advantages and do a good job. One may render the same page better than the other. The "Browser" may be better for quickly checking things like weather, sports, etc. The Mobile Web is probably better for surfing content rich websites. It's strictly a personal preference. They both have their own personalities, and I use both equally.
Voice Commands - This is a great feature for some people. I am a carrier for the U.S.P.S. At certain times during the year, my phone is under 3 or 4 layers of clothes. Two layers cover my head. I don't have time to stop and make phones calls, but if I did, reaching for my phone under those layers with a gloved hand is an invitation to send the phone tumbling to the asphalt. With voice commands, problem solved! Even with my bluetooth headset under my headwear, people have no trouble hearing me and I have no problem hearing them. At the touch of the button on my bluetooth, I can check time, date, go to voicemail, call the Post Office with a problem, check the phone's battery, signal strength, or whether I really did feel my phone vibrate with a new message, and more, all while leaving my phone safely in its holster under all my clothes. This is invaluable for me, though probably not for everyone.
The Battery - The battery life is excellent for a phone with such power hungry features. My phone is turned on at 5:30am, and shuts off at 10:30pm. If I use the phone only when needed, there will be at least 4 out of 5 bars at the end of the day, sometimes 5. If I'm out and about on a day off, constantly texting, checking Facebook, surfing...Read more›
