Samsung Epic 4G SPH-D700 OEM Samsung ECR-D982BEGSTA Desktop Docking Station (Black) Review

I thought the idea of a bedside dock for my phone was a great idea!!! However, in its current state, this dock has its shortcomings (see below). Don't take my word for it, many "early adapters" of this dock are mentioning the same thing in various Android forums or blogs.
CONS:
1. Since the rocker for the Ringer volume is situated on the side of the phone resting in the dock, the Ringer volume is changed whenever one docks/undocks the phone or uses the phone while in its cradle. (The workaround is an Android app called "SmartVolume" which locks the volume.)
2. When undocking the phone, the phone automatically switches to the camera app or the picture gallery.
3. The downloaded and installed Samsung dock app does not display the weather as shown in the Amazon description.
4. Once the battery is completely charged, the phone not only displays a bright "battery is full" message but will also make a notification sound in the middle of the night to let you know. This message box will continue to display while on the dock and is very, very bright. (No known workaround)
5. Just an obvious note, one will ONLY be able to dock the phone if the phone does NOT have a case. Although obvious and unfortunate, it's a hassle to have to remove my phone bumper on the phone in order to use the dock. This could've been avoided with a design having an adjustable stand.
6. The only change the user can make on the free Samsung dock app is changing the display for day (lighter) or night (darker).
CONCLUSION:
It's obvious Samsung didn't actually use this product otherwise they'd know its many shortcomings. I'll ultimately hold on to this dock (although I hate it right now) just because I hope any updates to their Android dock app will fix these issues.
If you can wait----you should, since it's not worth the money with all of these problems.

Datexx Superbattery USB Power Bank Review

Datexx Superbattery USB Power Bank
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used this for a few weeks now since I usually carry around a whole set of USB powered devices from an iPhone to a Sony Reader. They often run out of power at the most inopportune moments (when a plug isn't nearby) as I travel for business. I thought the SuperBattery might just be the ticket so I can have USB juice anytime I need it, no matter what.
My experiences so far have been decidedly mixed, though I'm convinced that a product like this could be a real winner if the issues such as unstable charging, faster charging of connected devices, and actual support for crank charging of the internal batteries were addressed.
Here's the pros and cons of the SuperBattery I've observed so far:
PROS:
- Does indeed charge USB and other devices with adapters without an external power source
- The hand crank actually works to charge the battery and feels solid
- Surprisingly lightweight and compact
- Water resistant, including hinged rubber caps for all plugs
- Charging light that mostly tells you the state of the device
CONS:
- Instructions tell you NOT to use the crank unless there's an emergency
- Very weak USB current, devices take forever to take a charge from it
- Flimsy feeling construction except for crank
- Device seems very fickle about taking a charge, particularly from European plugs when using 110/220 adapters
All in all, I really wanted this to work and gave it a shot, but the USB current is so anemic that a small BlackBerry phone took several hours to take a charge from dead to one bar of power. That's really not going to help in most situations since by that time you can find a plug. Other devices charged slightly faster SuperBattery but not much. The instructions say that two rechargeable AA batteries comprise the energy storage for the device and I'm sad to report that's just not enough for the device to be practical at this time. So 3 stars for a really great product idea but very middling execution.

Surge Hybrid Solar Charger for iPhone 3G, 3G S (White) Review

Surge Hybrid Solar Charger for iPhone 3G, 3G S (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this thing home and I was super excited from the moment I took it out. Now I feel like I was a bit TOO excited after using it for almost a month. First off, I don't know about the battery capacity being 105% of that of the iPhone's standard battery; it feels
more like 65%. It's still nice having the added capacity but I've yet to plug it in when both my iPhone and the surge were both at 100% without it fully depleting and requiring my phone to start drawing from it's own reserves.
Now I originally bought it because I am riding my bicycle from Alaska to Oregon this summer and I need a way to power my phone for music and e-reading purposes between towns. Unfortunately the potency of the sun up here in AK hasn't quite peaked yet. My results thus far have been that 2 hours of direct, bright beaming sunshine on the charger ( while unplugged from
my phone) charges my phone about 12% when it's locked ( I.e. from 40 to 52%) and this becomes more like 5% when I'm listening to music.
That said, I'm sure once summer kicks into full swing and the sunlight up here gains some teeth this might change, though it might not. I'm no expert on photovoltaics. Anyway, I'd say I'll update the review once I get on the road but you're probably not going to wait that long to decide whether or not to buy this thing. Yes, it does work, and yes, if you manage to keep it in direct sunlight it will pretty much maintain your battery level as long as you're not making calls. I recommend it because the cool factor is unmistakeable and the extra battery capacity is nice, but don't expect to never have to plug your phone in again, or the charger itself for that matter ( which fortunately comes with a handy USB charging cable for cloudy days).

I purchased my HTC Touch in July, 2008. The original battery was getting to the point where standby time was 10 hours or less.
There were less expensive batteries available, but I wanted an OEM. Besides, for five dollars how can you go wrong?
This battery has brought the standby time up to 24 hours, just like when the phone was new.
So, OEM battery, cheap price, it's a win!

I love this phone!! I mean in my opinion there will never be a perfect phone there is always a flaw; however there are a couple of things I do did not like or disagree about. First I do not like how the text messages pop up on the front of the screen like as a screen saver, but no biggie you can change the settings on that! Next I did not like the battery life span, it is very little and should last much longer. Then the volume on this phone is not loud enough. Don't get me wrong I can hear it, but I need something loud as if im in another room and the phone is in another. Instead when I get to it I see that I had like 3 miss calls. I have not had any other issues like it freezing up. Other than the flaws I stated I love it! I would definetely recommend this to a friend. Like they say you get what you pay and I am well satified....Thanks Sony!

Surge Hybrid Solar Charger for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Black) Review

Surge Hybrid Solar Charger for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We will hiking for a month and have been looking for ways to charge our iPhones on the trail.
After waiting for months, my white/orange surge finally arrived! It's beautiful and about the same size as a Mophie Juice Pack (charging case), and the same price.
After using it for about a month, here's my review.
1) as a plug in/extra battery charger case, it rocks. I wear it with a carabiner on my belt loop while its recharging my phone (about 1-2 hours). It's easy to use and after an initial problem getting my phone to sit correctly, it now slides in easily and firmly.
2) as a purely solar charger, it is disappointing. I've tried leaving the charger sit in the direct and indirect sun that hits my porch for three days, and it was still barely charged. I've tried sitting it on my dashboard (to absorb sunlight through the windshield), and it gets hardly any juice. As a purely solar charger, I'm not going to get enough power for my daily email needs on the hike.
Having said that, I would still recommend the Surge. It is the same size as a Juice Pack and functions exactly the same (plug into my computer to charge the case, carry it around in my purse till I need it) and works very well. As solely a solar charger, it is lacking. But who cares? If I can get a little juice from the sun and consume a little less from the grid, then its a good thing. The cost is the same as other charging cases, and the Surges are very cute! Maybe those living closer to the equator get better sun power.
Note; When the Surge battery is almost empty, it is best to disconnect the iPhone and let the Surge charge up on solar power alone. Why? As the Surge battery gets empty, the phone flips back to using its own battery, then when the Surge has collected a tiny bit of power from the sun, it flips back to charging mode. I was serenaded by beeping every 20-30 seconds until I realized this was happening. Unplug the phone, let the Surge charge up again on its on from the sun, then plug it back in if you need more power.
Solar power from such a tiny panel is, well, tiny. But I love the case and would recommend it for anyone considering a powered case.
(We ended up also buying a HyperShop HyperDrive MBP-60 ($200) to carry backpacking - It weighs one pound and will charge our phones 14 times! Worth it!)

Samsung Captivate Android Phone (AT&T) Review

Samsung Captivate Android Phone (ATandT)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been holding off my upgrade for a while waiting for the next iphone (iphone4) or android to hit ATT. I went to the ATT store early this morning to finally decide between the iphone 4 and the captivate. I loved the feel of both units, but the captivate's curved body feels sleaker in the hand. While I was very impressed with crispness of the iphone screen; I powered on the captivate and I was even more blown away by the vibrance of the super AMOLED screen. I have spent all day playing around with the phone and have not noticed any sluggishness whatsoever; which was something I feared when looking through online reviews.. I mean c'mon it has the fastest processor out there. Also I read a blog that was spreading a rumor that the Galaxy S phones have a death grip like the iphone 4.. this is completely false as I live in New York where the iphone 4 has problems and have not been able to replicate the effect using multiple grips. So in conclusion I can't say that the phone is an iphone killer for sure.. but it is in my book. It all comes down to personal preferance. I have used the iphone os before and compared to the customizability of Android it comes off as old, locked-to-a-grid and bland. For your referance, I'm 20 years old; and I'm loving where ATT is going with android.
Things I've noticed:
Doesn't have computer software support yet, unless you search for the Samsung Kies software on your own. It detects my device and is compatible.
At first I thought that the USB wouldn't snuggly fit the phone but then I realized that I didn't open the sliding door all the way. But it fits perfectly fine when it is open.. my bad.
The ATT stock apps can not be deleted from the apps menu, but they can be removed from the home screens. It kind of increases the number of items in the menu by alot, but atleast some of those apps I might actually use.
Updates:
You can download full office productivity suite in the Android Marketplace for FREE. It is called "quickoffice for captivate," and it syncs with your Google docs account and dropbox. I think that it is only free for certain phones as it is named "quickoffice for captivate" on my phone, but on my friend's droid it reads just quickoffice and costs around 10 bucks.
I love using this phone for taking video, in good light of course ;). The sound quality comes through very clear as long as you don't block the mic at the bottom.

Swype Keyboard
An alternative to the Android virtual keyboard, the Swype virtual keyboard allows you to input text by swiping the finger with one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard. Based on testing, speed and accuracy are equal to or better than the traditional keyboard-tapping method. You can activate the Swype keyboard by pressing and holding in a text field, wait for popup to appear, click Input Method, and then select Swype.

In the image to the left, the word "quick" was generated from tracing the path shown above in a fraction of a second, by roughly aiming to pass through the letters of the word. A key advantage to Swype is that there is no need to be very accurate, enabling very rapid text entry.

Its a replacement battery, works fine. There are plenty of how-to guides on the Internet. I'd recommend a specialty screw driver set as it needs a 0000 philips screw driver. Most 'jeweler' kits don't have a driver that small, so be aware. That is literally the only tool needed to replace the battery on a 3G/3Gs.

Motorola DROID 2 Global Android Phone, Sapphire (Verizon Wireless) Review

Motorola DROID 2 Global Android Phone, Sapphire (Verizon Wireless)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After my Droid 1 got water damaged nearly two months ago, I was in the market for a new smartphone. After thoroughly researching this phone as well as its competitors, I went with the Droid 2 Global and am very happy with it so far. Its large and vibrant touchscreen, fast processor, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and extensive Google integration make it very convenient to use, although the phone's size/weight, and Android's steeper learning curve might make this phone less appealing to some prospective buyers.
LOOK AND FEEL
The phone is big and heavy, and you will notice that immediately when picking it up. I personally don't mind this, but think some people, especially women, might find that this phone might not fit in their pockets (since clothing for women usually are designed with smaller pockets). My girlfriend, for example, uses a smaller Android phone since she thought the Droid 2 was heavier and bulkier than she liked.
CALL QUALITY
I notice that the volume of calls is lower than that of my previous Droid, both holding the phone up to my ear as well as putting it on speaker. The phone's speaker is loud enough when I play music, but the in-call volume is noticeably quieter than I'd like. This might be inconvenient for some, but feel this is a small price to pay for an otherwise outstanding phone.
PHYSICAL KEYBOARD
The physical keyboard on this phone is pretty good. It's definitely much better than that of the original Droid since the keys are slightly elevated (whereas the original Droid had very flat keys). My one gripe with the keyboard is the new 'Alt Lock' button. While to lock Alt (to activate the secondary functions of keys, such as inserting numbers) you previously had to press Alt twice, on the Droid 2's keyboard the Alt Lock button is another way to lock Alt (although you can still press Alt twice to lock it). Only problem is that due to its location, I frequently find myself pressing it inadvertently which interferes with composing text. Now that I'm more used to my phone it's not as much of a problem as it used to be, but it still becomes annoying at times. Overall, I am pleased with the physical keyboard and frequently use it to compose texts, emails, and even documents.
There are many smartphone alternatives that are thinner than the Droid 2 because they lack a physical keyboard, but I personally am not a huge fan of touchscreen keyboards. Even with the option of using Swype, which is regarded by many to be superior than a traditional touchscreen keyboard since you can compose words without lifting your finger, I prefer the phone's physical keyboard to its touchscreen one since it allows me to type faster and more accurately.
DISPLAY
The Droid 2 has a bright, high-resolution display. This is not only great for watching videos, but for reading since text is very crisp. I use the Google Books and Kindle applications on the phone and read e-books on my commute without a problem, and also frequently play videos that look gorgeous on the screen. Since the display is so good, it draws a lot of power, and you might want to lower the brightness to save battery. Even on a dimmer setting, it still is a very bright and crisp display.
CAMERA
The Droid packs a 5 Megapixel camera, as well as video-recording at roughly DVD-quality. The camera is much faster to auto-focus and snap pictures than my Droid 1 (running Android 2.2) was. Pictures come out pretty good, especially with adequate light. The camera's images come out noisy (grainy) in low light, but that is to be expected with a cell phone camera, which employs a relatively small image sensor. While this won't replace your point and shoot, the pictures are good enough. The Droid 2's video recording is very good, both in terms of the video and the recorded audio.
BATTERY LIFE
The battery life of this phone is noticeably shorter than of my Droid 1 - which had quite a dismal battery life itself. This is largely because the phone has a powerful 1.2 GHz processor, a large high-resolution touchscreen, and features multitasking (which allows programs to run in the background). If you want improved battery life you can turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS when they're not in use, dim the display, and run less widgets, but even taking these energy-saving measures can only do so much. I highly recommend you buy a spare battery if you purchase this phone - the relatively cheap price you pay for a spare is worth it!
USER INTERFACE
Unlike the original Droid, the Droid 2 features MotoBlur...Motorola's custom User Interface that really makes the phone shine. It offers a very polished design and unique customization options that make the phone aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, a lot of options are buried within menus or sub-menus that take some probing to uncover, making this phone a little less simple to use out of the box than some might like. I recommend if you do ultimately purchase this phone, you take the time to learn its features! Once you do, you can extensively personalize it, place widgets on your homescreens, and do many other neat things.
Due to the speedy 1.2 GHz processor, the phone's performance is generally good - although programs do become unresponsive, or the phone freezes, more often than I'd like. I think this is more of a flaw with the Android OS in general, and not a flaw of this phone in particular. For the most part, I find the phone's day-to-day operation is smooth.
FLASH SUPPORT
This is highly touted as a strength of Android - and a weakness of Apple - but I don't find this to be all too important in my day-to-day use. I definitely like the option to be able to play Flash movies, but have noticed that Flash loads pretty slowly on a 3G connection (although it's decent on Wi-Fi), and that some Flash sites still won't properly load as they are not optimized for mobile devices. While I rarely play Flash videos for the aforementioned reasons, it is convenient to have the ability to play Flash if and when I do need it.
BLOATWARE
To my disappointment, this phone comes loaded with bloatware. There isn't an easy way to remove it unless you 'root' (hack) your phone and use a program like Titanium Backup. A simple Google search can provide websites with easy to follow, step-by-step directions on how to go about doing this, but you should not do this unless you understand the process since it entails the potential to mess up important system files. Most people will probably just cope with having bloatware on their system, which is annoying, but doesn't noticeably slow down performance.
COMPARED TO DROID 2 NON-GLOBAL EDITION
The Droid 2 Global has a slightly faster processor (1.2 GHz vs. 1 GHz), but the main advantage is the phone's global capabilities. If you travel internationally, having the option to use your current cell phone abroad is very convenient. While I still haven't firsthand experimented with its global capabilities, I bought this phone over the non-global edition specifically for this ability.
COMPARED TO IPHONE
When I was deciding on a phone, the Verizon iPhone's release was imminent. While a year ago that might have swayed my decision, this time it didn't, since I was already familiar with the strengths of the Android OS. Yes, there's a steeper learning curve, but it's worth it for the customization and extensive Google integration (great voice search, turn-by-turn navigation, etc). Since the iPhone is now officially available from Verizon, the decision on whether to buy an Android or iOS device is more difficult for some, especially since both operating systems have their strengths and weaknesses.
Some of the biggest reasons people might be drawn to the iPhone now that cell network isn't an issue for VZW customers is its relative ease of use and better media integration. As of the time of this review, there still isn't a media sync option as convenient as iTunes, aside perhaps for DoubleTwist. In my opinion, iTunes is a much easier way to transfer media to the phone than dragging and dropping or using iTunes alternatives, for most people at least. While I don't buy MP3s online, others have also pointed to the iTunes store offering much more selection than Amazon's MP3 store. If rumors of a cloud-based Google music alternative materialize, maybe this will become a moot point, but as of now, an iPhone might be more convenient for a lot of users.
NO SIMULTANEOUS VOICE AND DATA
This is a shortcoming of the Verizon network, not a flaw of this phone in particular. If you're not on a Wi-Fi network, and are using cell phone data, you cannot talk and surf the web at the same time (I believe AT&T recently had a commercial highlighting this flaw). While this is a shortcoming of the Verizon network and not of this phone in particular, it is worth noting that in some situations, this proves to be a major inconvenience.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I love my Droid 2 - even more than my Droid 1 - but honestly think that the steep learning curve for Android phones in general might prove to be a bit of a challenge to first-time smartphone buyers. While the Android 2.2 user interface is more polished and refined than previous versions of the OS, many options and settings are still buried deep within submenus that might be frustrating to figure out or uncover. I think the iPhone is a better alternative for smartphone 'newbies' since it is far more intuitive.
If you are willing to take the time to really explore this phone's features, you will find this phone is a very powerful device that offers a good physical keyboard, increased customization options compared to the iPhone, and extensive Google integration (i.e. turn-by-turn navigation, voice search). Swype Keyboard

An alternative to the Android virtual keyboard, the Swype virtual keyboard allows you to input text by swiping the finger with one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard. Based on testing, speed, and accuracy are equal to or better than the traditional keyboard-tapping method. You can activate the Swype keyboard by pressing and holding in a text field, wait for popup to appear, click Input Method, and then select Swype.

In the image to the left, the word "mind" was generated from tracing the path shown above in a fraction of a second, by roughly aiming to pass through the letters of the word. A key advantage to Swype is that there is no need to be very accurate, enabling very rapid text entry.

Samsung Intercept Android Phone, Grey Steel (Sprint) Review

Samsung Intercept Android Phone, Grey Steel (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am someone that works for a Fortune 500 company in I.T. that at the end of the day hates technology! I have refused for years to carry a CrackBerry of any sorts for work (still do) and resisted getting a phone that was a "gadget" for my personal use. I finally broke down and decided on the Samsung Intercept for myself and my girlfriend. We both love it.
This by no means is the perfect phone, but, it does a pretty good job at getting what I want out of a phone done.
The Good:
- The Android OS runs smooth especially when running several apps in the background. I can have Sirius XM or Pandora, Email, web browser, and Sprint Navigation all running and the phone doesn't flinch.
- The video quality far surpassed my expectations. Streaming video looks great and plays flawlessly on YouTube and Sprint TV.
- The slide-out keyboard buttons are larger than most phones and easy to manage. The phone fits nicely in my hand.
The Not so Good:
- As mentioned in another review, the Capacitive buttons sometimes need to be pushed twice.
- The power cord plugs in at the top. I kinda get why, but if I need to charge the phone and talk it feels weird having the cable on the top.
- The battery life could be better, but again, this is a smart phone, of course it will die sooner.
- If you are new to Android there is a learning curve, but it's fairly quick to pick up on.
This phone made me think what the hell have I been waiting for on a getting a "gadget" phone. If you want a quality Android phone, with decent performance, and want to keep the budget in mind, this is the perfect phone. You won't regret it.

New Trent iCruiser IMP1000 11000mAh External Battery Pack and Charger for iPad 2, ipad, iPhone 4 4G 3Gs 3G (ATandT and verizon) , iPod Touch (1G 2G 3G 4G), HTC Android EVO, Blackberry, Kindle DX, Samsung Galaxy S, Droid, Nintendo, Sony PSP and much more
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The IMP1000 is the second NEW Trent battery pack I've owned and used. I've used (and reviewed) the previous model (IMP880) for several months now. This review will be written from the perspective of comparison of these two models.
Pros:
1. Capacity... 11000 mAh is simply enormous, and provides "charge it and forget it for at least a week" use for any purpose I can foresee. I've been running the IMP1000 on its initial charge for a week now (usage details in "review section", below) and have just gone from medium to low on the capacity LED's.
2. Finish/durability... I noted in my review of the IMP880 that the rubberized coating was not durable; even though I handled it carefully, it was worn away easily (particularly at the pack's edges). The hard, glossy, color-molded-in finish of the IMP1000 should fare much better. Time will tell, but so far, so good.
3. Ease of use... No "long press vs. short press" power button functions. I haven't had any trouble using the IMP880, but simpler is nearly always better (something Apple does very well, and NEW Trent targets Apple customers, so this is a good fit).
4. Accessories... The retractable USB cable seems more robust than the one included with the IMP880. I haven't had the same problem with the microUSB connector slipping into its rubber shell that I wrote about with the IMP880 yet, either.
5. Packaging... The IMP1000's packaging is much classier than the IMP880's. Apple has set a very high standard in this regard. Apple customers expect a great "out of box experience", and the IMP1000 won't leave them with a bad first impression. The internal packaging didn't self-destruct from the inside out, as my IMP880's packaging did.
Cons: (please note that many of these are personal opinion)
1. Size and weight... Yes, it has higher capacity than its predecessor, but the trade-off between size and weight with current LiPo technology may have been reached with the IMP1000. Only time and user feedback will tell. I'm personally fine with the IMP1000; other users may not be.
2. Blue LED lighting... The trend today with both home and personal electronics seems to be bright, obnoxiously-glitzy LED power and status indicators, usually in blue. The capacity LED's are fine, but the power indicator is bright enough to light up an entire unlit room, much less the inside of a car at night, and can be very annoying/distracting during use. Small, "pin-point" LED's are sufficient here; I believe many other users will concur.
3. Finish... Yes, it's better than the IMP880's, and shiny ("piano") black is "in" these days... but why not a color-molded-in, matte black finish that hides fingerprints and scuffs, instead? Shiny black products look great when brand new, but never look that good again. Matte black ages much more gracefully.
4. No "DC Out" port... I like the connection flexibility afforded by the IMP880's "DC Out" port. I understand that the similar-appearing "DC In" and "DC Out" ports could be a source of confusion for some users, but the ability to charge two devices simultaneously via the splitter cable is a nice feature. How about supplying a USB splitter cable so we can do the same with the IMP1000 (assuming the pack's safety circuitry would adequately protect against excess discharge rate)?
Review/Suggestions:
I have been using the IMP1000 to power my HTC EVO ("Supersonic") 4G on the Sprint network for nearly a week. This otherwise stellar device is notorious for its one glaring shortcoming--terribly insufficient run-time on its supplied internal battery pack. Having a portable (self-contained) power option like the IMP1000 is, in my opinion, the first (and absolutely essential) accessory any smartphone user should purchase (particularly for Apple devices with non-removable batteries). The simple freedom from running out of power is very liberating. No more searching for an electrical outlet when out to lunch or dinner, or cutting conversations or browsing short as the power meter plunges through amber, then red, as the device quickly goes belly-up. As mentioned at the outset, I have yet to recharge the IMP1000 in the first week's use. The IMP1000's 11000 mAh capacity is 7.3 times the EVO's 1500 mAh, so this certainly stands to reason.
A few suggestions...
1. Market aggressively to non-Apple users. I see you've started doing this since marketing the IMP880. Most Android smartphones have serious battery capacity issues--get the word out to them!
2. The naming scheme of these products is confusing. Why name an 8900 mAh pack "IMP880", and why name an 11000 mAh pack "IMP1000"? I think it would have made more sense to call them "IMP8900" and "IMP11000", respectively.
3. See points 3 and 4 in "Cons", above.
I am very pleased with the IMP1000 and the improvement it represents over the IMP880. It is well worth its $100 ($80, on sale) price tag, and represents a superior value to carrying spare packs for removable-battery devices (and is the only way to go for Apple users who can't swap packs). On-board extended packs make devices bulkier and usually require special battery doors and cases, which limit options greatly. The IMP1000 is also a superior value because it isn't device-specific.
External packs are the most versatile, convenient, and sensible power solution for mobile devices. When used thoughtfully, such as connecting the pack when not using the device and disconnecting during use if you find the cable annoying, or carrying the pack in an outside pocket such as a jacket, so it can remain connected without carrying in-hand during "emergency" use, external packs are simply the "way to go". The IMP1000 breaks new ground for capacity and convenience--highly recommended!
