Palm Pre Phone (Sprint) Review

Palm Pre Phone (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Once upon a time, I was a major iPhone fan. Like many others, I had grown tired of ho-hum smartphones and wanted something new and fresh. Initially, I loved my iPhone. There was simply nothing like it, with its beautiful touchscreen interface and great packaging. Best of all, I'd been assimilated into a fun "iPhone culture." Yeah, I guess in a way I'd even look down my nose at others who did not own one. ;p
But as time went by, my happy relationship began to sour. Don't get me wrong... as a MEDIA device, it was beyond compare. It STILL IS. But as a PRODUCTIVITY device, it STUNK: the virtual keyboard drove me bananas, the calendar was hardly usable for my purposes, and the constant dropped calls in south Florida were infuriating. As the months dragged on, I began to resent my phone and despise AT&T. There was a glimmer of hope when the Apple's App Store made its debut, but instead of productivity apps I needed, it was flooded with junk with no easy way to sift through all the noise to find the quality apps. Though I must admit I was DEFINITELY addicted to a game or two! ;)
I wanted a phone that could serve me well as both a PRODUCTIVITY and PERSONAL device. So when the Palm Pre came out, I took a deep breath and signed on with Sprint to get one on launch day (June 6th).
Put simply? .............. I.
LOVE.
THIS.
PHONE.When writing this review I made the assumption that you, the reader, already knows the Palm Pre's features. What I did was just jot down my real-world experiences with the Pre to illustrate how freaking AMAZING it is...
IT AIN'T PERFECT, THOUGH! I'll definitely address those issues (caution, I'm pretty blunt).------------------------- FIRST, THE THINGS I LOVE -------------------------
1) MULTITASKING:
When I read about multi-tasking on the Palm Pre, it looked cool. When I played with the mult-tasking feature in the Sprint store, I thought it was really cool. But when I LIVED with multi-tasking, I realized I would never own another phone that doesn't do this. It doesn't always work perfectly... sometimes there are issues with lag but once you learn which apps are resource hogs you get the hang of how to operate with it.
Here's some real-world examples of how I use multitasking...
"Day-to-day"
I consistently have email, texting, Twitter, phone, and Epocrates (medical app) open at all times while I'm working. No need to search for buttons or menus. Just flick and I'm there.
"The Drive"
A while back my boss drove me down to New Orleans. I SIMULTANEOUSLY............
- Ran turn-by-turn navigation with spoken street names (thru car speakers)
- Ran Pandora (also thru car speakers)
- Sent MMS messages to my folks
- Tracked my wife's flight to Puerto Rico in real-time, using FlightView
- Viewed a PowerPoint presentation
- Sent that powerpoint presentation via email to a colleague
"Ordering Pizza and a Movie"
Just the other day my wife called me from the road to ask where she could get a movie rental and pick up a pizza in her area. I SIMULTANEOUSLY..........
- Ran my Google maps which found the nearest Blockbuster and pizza place to her,
- Ran Flixster and read Rotten Tomato reviews of different movies
- Texted my wife back and forth with my recommendations.
"Email + Messaging"
I can have both my email and texting apps open, and copy/paste from one into the other
"No Wifi headaches"
Here's a big one! I can enable/disable Wi-Fi without leaving the web page I'm on or the email I'm trying to download. Just touch the top of the screen for the menu and I'm done!2) REAL KEYBOARD:
When Steve Jobs told me I'd get used to my virtual keyboard on my iPhone, I believed him... but after a year and a half of ownership, I came to this realization: nothing beats a real keyboard. I'm 6'3" and 200lbs, and while the Pre's keyboard is small, after a couple weeks I got very quick and accurate on it... MUCH faster than I ever did in all the time on my iPhone. It's worth mentioning that the a virtual keyboard has already been created for it, adding the convenience of BOTH. iPhone will always be stuck with just a virtual keyboard. There's also a homebrew app called "AutoCorrect Edit" that allows you to customize your autocorrect dictionary and make typing shortcuts. Killer.3) CALENDAR:
You can sync multiple calendars to the Pre, and view them all simultaneously if you want... Google, Facebook, Exchange, etc.... they're all there. In addition to my personal calendar and my wife's calendar, I keep track the schedules of no less than EIGHT physicians in my fellowship program... all on my phone! Best part is I can view them all together, manage them, and update them from my device and send them to all the fellows and faculty in my program OVER THE AIR.
Also, there's calendar app integration... From my phone, I can add a flight directly to my calendar from Flightview. Or a movie I just purchased tickets for. Or dinner reservations I made using Open Table. All without opening my calendar. Easy. I can't wait until more apps offer this kind of functionality...4) USB FLASH DRIVE ABILITY!
A couple weeks ago, I needed to email some documents and spreadsheets to my boss. My laptop had an erratic Wifi connection, so I was stuck. What did I do? I simply plugged my Pre into my computer via USB, dropped the files onto my phone, and emailed them to by boss using Sprint's network! Plain, freaking, AWESOME! This is not mentioned enough in the reviews I've read.
Another cool thing: who needs iTunes? With drag and drop, you can easily transfer music (with album art!) and videos back and forth on the Pre. Seriously. A monkey could do this.5) AMAZON MP3 MUSIC STORE!
Love this place! Almost as much variety as iTunes, which is good enough for me. You can preview and download all the songs you want! I do wish you could see the duration of songs as well as the full title (for remixes and such), but overall I'm smitten with it. Not only that, they often feature entire albums for DIRT cheap. Best of all, UNLIKE iTunes, you can do whatever the heck you like with your music, and it doesn't have to be converted to a proprietary format! Beautiful.(P.S. I realize that music sold on iTunes is now DRM-free, but I still resent the fact that a good number of songs that I BOUGHT are stuck on iTunes unless I "upgrade." Hogwash.)6) TOUCHSTONE WIRELESS CHARGER!
This is basically a hockey-puck device that you set your Pre onto and it charges it using a magnetic coil... no wires! This is particularly great at night right before I get into bed: rather than fumbling with wires and the Pre's (I'd like to smack the Palm engineers for that last one), all I do is just set my phone down on the charger. Easy. And I have a full charge in around 2 hours. The Touchstone does more than just charge my phone, though...
- If the Pre rings while on the charger and I press "TALK", it instantly goes to speakerphone.
- If I'm talking on the Pre and then set it down on the Touchstone, it instantly switches to speakerphone.
- If I want more privacy and take my phone OFF of the Touchstone during a conversation, it instantly switches speakerphone OFF. Nice.7) CAMERA:
Outdoor shots are amazing. Shutter has almost no lag. Although my iPhone used to take better pictures in low-light conditions, when there's NO light, the Pre has a flash... my iPhone did not.
*** UPDATE! 3/1/10... ***
With its 1.4 update, the Palm Pre now shoots VIDEO! You can also EDIT the video clip and send it via MMS/email, or even directly post it to Facebook or YouTube! This function works rather well, and video quality is not bad at all in good lighting conditions. Awesome! ... So video recording took Palm 8 months, and I didn't even have to buy a new phone. Compare that to Apple, who released video recording after TWO YEARS, and you had to buy a whole new phone?! Get outta here.8) NETWORK AND PRICING... DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!
My wife and I are saving a ton of money with Sprint. I know coverage varies from city to city, but for me, Sprint's been great. In my opinion, AT&T cannot support the deluge of iPhone customers. They pay a high premium to maintain iPhone exclusivity, and take another hit by heavily subsidizing the iPhone to entice new customers. Subsequently, improvements to infrastructure move at a slower pace than they should. Not only that, but iPhone customers have to pay a lot more per month than say, Palm Pre customers on Sprint! All Sprint plans for the Palm Pre include UNLIMITED data, UNLIMITED texts, and TURN-BY-TURN GPS NAVIGATION! With AT&T, you have to pay out the nose for those kinds of goodies. I price matched feature-for-feature with Verizon and I'm saving tons of money with Sprint. Do. Your. Research.9) HOMEBREW!!!
This is certainly one of the best aspects of webOS that I am saving for last. The Palm Pre has an OUTSTANDING homebrewing community. Best part is, you don't have to be a techie geek to be a part of it.
You may have heard of people "hacking" their phones in order to get them to do what they want. But unlike Apple, where "jailbreaking" is necessary to "hack" their phones, webOS users merely "homebrew" to "patch" their phones. This isn't just semantics: unlike Apple's constant Gestapo policies, Palm has chosen to embrace the homebrew community and welcome their innovation. The result? I can change the...Read more›

The revolutionary Palm Pre will make your life simpler by always being one step ahead. The Palm Pre will pull each of your online calendars into a single, easy-to-view screen, so you'll always be on top of your appointments, and it will automatically link all your contacts from different sources, letting you easily find what you need when you need it. Whether you are sending emails or text messages, browsing the web, listening to music, or simply making a phone call, the Palm Pre makes everything easier than ever.
Palm Synergy Brings Your Calendars and Contacts TogetherThe Palm Pre features Synergy technology, which gathers all your information from different sources and puts them together in one place for you to see. Instead of having your information scattered in different screens, the Pre automatically brings them together so you can easily find what you need. If you have calendars from Microsoft Outlook, Google, and Facebook, Synergy will automatically gather all your appointments and put them into one easy-to-view calendar, so you won't miss an appointment again.

The Pre also makes managing your contacts simple -- not only will it gather your contacts from different places such as Google, Exchange, and Facebook, but if you have the same contacts in different places, this revolutionary phone will automatically link them together so they show up just once. And all your conversations with the same person will automatically be gathered into one chat-style view. For example, if you start a conversation via text message with someone, the Pre lets you quickly reply via IM or email.

Sleek, Attractive Design with Easy-to-Use KeyboardThe Palm Pre features a sleek design that looks great and fits easily into your pocket. It measures 2.3 x 3.9 x 0.67 inches (WxHxD) and weighs just 4.75 ounces. The pebble-shaped phone has a beautiful 3.1-inch touch screen with a vibrant 24-bit color 320x480 resolution display that lets you watch videos in full widescreen format. When it's time to write an email, you don't have to settle for a small onscreen keyboard. Simply slide out the QWERTY keyboard for fast and accurate text input. The Palm Pre has 8GB of built-in memory and uses a standard 3.5mm stereo headphone jack so you can connect any headphone you want.

3G, Wi-Fi, and GPS Keeps You ConnectedThe Palm Pre is smartly connected to the Internet all the time, so you'll always have quick access to your email, calendars, and other information. When you are on the road, the Pre connects to Sprint's 3G network for Internet connectivity wherever you are. Sprint's 3G network is America's most dependable and provides outstanding speed and performance. If you are home or near a Wi-Fi hotspot, the Pre can also connect to it for even faster connectivity. And with GPS functionality built in, the Pre will let you look up directions or nearby points of interest even if you're not sure where you are.

Live Email that Connects with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSyncThe Palm Pre features live email, which means that whenever you get a new email, it is pushed directly onto your phone. You don't have to wait manually push a refresh button or wait for a scheduled sync. And if your email has attachments, you can view audio, video, images, and other documents directly on the Pre. For business users, the Pre can connect to your work email through Microsoft Exchange Activesync, making things easy for your IT department.

WebOS Operating System Lets You Multitask and Do MoreThe Palm Pre runs Palm's new webOS, which lets you keep multiple applications open at the same time and move easily between them. Each application is represented by an on-screen card. You can flip through the cards, move them around, or throw them off the screen to close the application.

The webOS features universal search capability, so if you need to find anything, simply start typing. The Pre will first search through your contacts and applications to see if it can find what you're looking for, and then it will offer to search Google, Google Maps, Wikipedia or Twitter. No matter what you're looking for, the Pre will quickly help you find it.

If you receive a text message or have a calendar appointment coming up, the webOS will let you know you with a small, unobtrusive notification on the bottom of the screen. You'll always know what's going on without being completely interrupted.

Take and View Photos, Watch Videos, and Listen to MusicThe Pre lets you take great pictures with the built-in three-megapixel camera with LED flash. You can also watch widescreen videos on the beautiful screen, or buy songs from the Amazon MP3 store and listen to them with the built-in music player.

Download Applications Directly Onto Your PhoneThe Pre's App Catalog makes it easy to download new applications by simply browsing for them and downloading them directly to your phone. By downloading additional optional applications, you can do more with your phone.

Automatic Over-the-Air Back UpThe over-the-air Palm Services automatically backs up your data and lets you restore it -- all without connecting to your computer. If your phone is lost or stolen, you can even remote erase everything on it. Additionally, the phone will automatically receive software updates so it will always be up to date.

* Activating and Setting Up the Palm Pre on First UseAfter receiving Palm Pre, it needs to be set up and activated. Activation requires a few steps. First, turn on the phone by pressing and holding the Power button. You will be prompted to choose English or Spanish. The next screen will check for voice and data activation. Once ready, tap Next. You will be presented with a Terms and Conditions page for Palm Services. Tap Accept to continue. At this point, you'll need to slide out the keyboard to create a new profile. Enter your name and password. The next step is entering your email address. You'll enter the same password and email combination you first entered, and then tap Next to continue. The next screen will confirm your profile and you'll receive an email from Palm. You'll have to accept various terms and service, and continue to tap Next when necessary to continue. When prompted, you'll have to choose between two location-based service settings. Either enable Auto-Locate, which provides for seamless use of location services all the time, or tap on Ask Each Time, which gives you a prompt every time an application requests the phone's location. Once done, you'll go through a tutorial and at the conclusion of the tutorial, an onscreen prompt will let you know that you're done. First Use set up is now complete and your Palm Pre is ready to go.

I loved the color on this cover but sadly it only lasted about 2 weeks. The clips that are supposed to hold on to the phone were weak plastic peices that eventually broke off and can no longer stay on or protect my phone. Would not waste your money on this product. Wait until a better one comes out.

Does not stay on product. Tiny little latches hold product on to phone and are not "big" enough to actually keep case on phone. I loved the fact that the case was small/light, but just didn't stay on the phone. Returned product.

Seidio SURFACE Case for Palm Pre - Black Review

Seidio SURFACE Case for Palm Pre - Black
Average Reviews:

As frugal as I am, it was hard to order this case after seeing all the other "cheaper" options. I did my research though and everone said get this one, even though I hadn't seen it in person. After receiving my Seidio case two days ago though, I say it's absolutely worth the money. The feel of it is hard to describe. It's a rubberish feeling semi-hard silicon? It has the same feel of the back cover for the Touchstone, if you've seen it.
The best thing I can say about it, and the ultimate reason to get the Seidio is that once you snap it on, it feels like it's part of the phone. I used to work in a phone store and always hated all the aftermarket cases because they felt like you stuck a cheap piece of plastic or rubber on your nice elegant phone. Not this one, it's like they were made for each other.
I had the Rocketfish one from Best Buy for the last month and even though they look the same in pictures, let me tell you, the Seidio is 10 times better. The rocketfish is a cheap hard plastic, that hinders your buttons and feels like it doubles the size of the phone.
The only bad thing I can say is that since it's a thinner case, it may not protect the phone as well as one of the other thicker cases if you drop it. However, imo, that trade-off in adding the bulk and clumsiness of a thicker case is not worth that little extra protection.

The top piece of my example of this 2-piece case is poorly molded, with 2 areas of damaged edge. Despite contacting the manufacturer with photos x 2, I've had only robot-replies and no response from customer service at [...]. First contact was 7 days ago.
The case material is much more rigid than the same brand was when I owned one for my previous Palm.
It does allow charging with the TouchStone charger.

I purchased the Holster about a month ago. I't is working very well for me. I think it is a very good product for the price.
Pros: Price and Quality of product.
Con: The only con is that the top of the clip is a little sharp on the edge and my arm will sometimes hit it. A bit rough on the skin. Learning to avoid it.

Incipio ORION Sleeve for Palm Pre (Deep Red) Review

Incipio ORION Sleeve for Palm Pre (Deep Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Two problems:
1) This is a fairly stiff case; I was hoping for just a slightly thicker, red version of the soft case that came with my Pre. The added bulk is fine if you're carrying your Pre in a bag, but I carry mine in my pants pocket and would prefer something smaller.
2) You have to pull a tab to get the Pre partway out and then pull the Pre the rest of the way. Not only does this take time, but I am leery of how long the tab will remain attached. I haven't looked inside so it's possible it's ruggedly built, but I get nervous about moving parts like this.
I'll probably return this unless my wife wants it.

Seidio Innocase Surface for Palm Pre (Ash Grey)

This silver/grey color is my favorite, they should actually call it platinum or gunsmoke. I loved this seidio case up until about a week ago when I dropped my phone and could finally test the durability of the case. This case *is* beautiful. This case *is* lightweight, and it comes in a bunch of colors. However, the case FAILED. Not only did the case break, but it did not protect my phone at all. The cover popped off when it hit the ground. Now I have a big chipped/scratched area on my Pre where the snap/foot of the case broke off and left the phone unprotected. Ironically, The case failed after I owned it for 35 days and could not return it to amazon. I give the case 2 stars because it is quite lovely, soft, and lightweight, and it worked with the touchstone (albeit very very slowly), but it failed to protect my phone after only being dropped just once :(

Seidio Innocase Surface for Palm Pre (Rose Pink) Review

Seidio Innocase Surface for Palm Pre (Rose Pink)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was easy to snap on and I liked the feel of this case. The color is actually more of a burnt/brushed pink.
Initially, I loved the case, until less than 3 weeks later, I had to remove the case to take the battery out. One of the (very flimsy clips) snapped off even though I was so careful, and I was left with an unevenly fitted case, which led to me use this special tacky glue to keep one corner attached to my Palm Pre. Another few weeks passed and as I was pulling my phone out of my jacket pocket, it slipped out of my hands onto the wooden floor. I was sitting in a very low seat (beach chair height), so it dropped about a foot or less. I didn't think much of it and picked it up, only to notice that another flimsy clip broke off creating one entire side of the case lifting off my phone completely.
I purchased this case to protect my Pre and to keep it from scratching, in the instance I accidentally dropped it. So much for that - I can't believe I paid money for such a flimsy case. The ones I tried at Best Buy weren't pretty but had a very hard plastic feel but now I wish I had just gotten one of those because they never would have broken off like this product did. They were super sturdy.
If you're looking to buy a cute temporary case and have money to burn, this is it; but as you're very likely to have to remove the battery every now and then, be obsessively careful about it and NEVER drop your phone - not even a few inches in height, as one or more of the tabs keeping the case in place, will chip/break/snap off.
Too bad there aren't many choices for Palm Pre cases at one of those big stores. I would buy anything other than clear, black or gray. And I don't like the rubbery ones advertised on here, as I've heard they stretch out in no time.
My search for a cute Pre case, continues...

Palm Touchstone Kit for Palm Pre Review

Palm Touchstone Kit for Palm Pre
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This thing is cool and does almost exactly what you would think. A couple items you may not be able to tell from the pic:
Good's:
- Back has an optional peel off plastic that makes it sticky. I originally stuck the touchstone on a dresser then later re-stuck it vertically to the side of my computer desk - 1 year down and it has not fallen. It is probably secure, but I would be nervous if there wasn't carpet on the floor. **See Edit Below**
- Charge is fast. Under 2 hours gets it from dead to full. Hopefully it isn't too hard on the battery since it isn't a trickle charge.
- It feels & looks awesome. There is a reason sprint retail stores sell these at $[...] a pop.
Bad's:
- Makes a very quiet buzz, I do not suggest charging near your head while asleep!! On multiple occasions I woke up at 1am wondering what was making that strange noise. If you have ambient sound, or if your touchstone is more than ~5 feet away, you won't notice. If not, expect an almost inaudible but still terribly annoying "mmzzzzpmf... mmzzzpmf" every 2 seconds.
- No cord! The Touchstone needs to be plugged into the wall (computer won't work) with this cord & 120v adapter, which was included with your Pre: New Sprint Palm PRE Original Smart Phone AC USB Wall Adapter + Original Palm PRE Charging USB 2.0 Data Cable. Problem is if you connect Pre to computer on a regular basis you have to unplug touchstone cord to do it (which becomes a pain). I ordered one like this to leave with my computer: Palm PRE Charging USB 2.0 Data Cable for your Phone! This professional grade custom cable outperforms the original!.
- For vertical users (like me), it would be nice if the magnet was a bit stronger or somehow aligned better internally. Instead of being able to haphazardly no-look slap the Pre on, one has to look, align, and slowly let go.
- Screen stays on (showing time) so if you have it near your bed you may want to find an app that turns it off. It doesn't bother me on the opposite corner of a 12' room. Actually an app that makes the time/light yellow or blue instead of white would be the best for sleeping but I don't think one exists.
PS - Amazon has the Touchstone Kit and plain Touchstone for sale. You are currently looking at the Kit, but don't be surprised if you see the plain Touchstone for less $$. You have to buy the kit first (it includes the replacement back for your Pre). The plain Touchstone is only for users that want an additional Touchstone. EDIT- The Palm Pre Plus apparently comes with the touchstone back by default. If you have the Palm Pre Plus then you should save money buy the plain touchstone, not this kit!!!
**EDIT - Before purchasing I suggest looking at all the reviews on here & sorting by newest first. There are a couple people saying the Touchstone now comes with the adapter cable.

Avoid the hassle of tangled cords and charge your Palm Pre wirelessly with this Palm Touchstone Kit, which includes both the Touchstone Charging Dock and the compatible back cover for the Palm Pre. The first inductive charging solution for phones, the Touchstone Kit allows you to set your Palm Pre on top of the dock without worrying about connection, orientation or fit. The device remains active while charging, allowing access to the touch screen, movies or video, or the speakerphone option.
Just set your Pre with the included Touchstone Back Cover on the Touchstone Charging Dock, and it magnetically snaps into place and begins charging. The magnets align your phone in the correct position for charging, whether in portrait or landscape mode--no cables or connectors required to attach your phone to the dock. And it charges in the same amount of time as wall charger that came with your Palm Pre.
The Charging Dock also offers a number of handy features in addition to keeping your battery topped up:
Place your phone on the Charging Dock when you're on a call and its speakerphone automatically turns on.
Pick your phone up from the Charging Dock while you're on speakerphone and the conversation is automatically routed back to the phone.
For incoming phone calls, simply pick up the phone from the Charging Dock and it answers automatically, without having to tap the screen.
When the phone is not in use, Nightstand mode displays the time and incoming notifications.
The Charging Dock also requires the International Power Charger that came with the Palm Pre to operate.

I bought this case because it was the only one I could find that would connect and charge on the Touchstone docking station. This case does work with the Touchstone. However, within 3 months of normal usage, one of the tabs to hold on the top broke. I contacted Seidio for a return authorization and exchanged it for a new one (after paying the shipping back). Now, 2 months later, one of the tabs has broken, so the top will not stay on. Buyer beware! This $30 case has now cost me much more $$$$ than it should.

Seidio SURFACE Case and Holster Combo for Palm Pre (Black) Review

Seidio SURFACE Case and Holster Combo for Palm Pre (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my Seidio Case and Holster kit today and I am very happy! Fast shipping as usual... I was estimated by 10/9, got it 10/6. This combo seriously is classy... obviously well made and sturdy (the case is as sturdy as REALLY thin plastic can get anyway haha). I put it on and took it off a few times and each time was very easy. I never felt I was going to break the tabs on the case or the phone itself (not like that Rocketfish POS!) The holster is also very solid. The spring clip is nice and responsive and the inner felt liner is a nice touch to protect the inward facing screen. The case adds very minimal bulk to the phone... I honestly think the phone feels MUCH more substantial with the case on. It feels much better in the hand, WAY more grip than before. The phone can now be opened with one hand and I don't have to touch the screen to do so... there is that much grip around the screen now. The case definitely feels like it will minimize the chance of dropping the phone, but I honestly don't think it will provide much protection against anything but scratches...but its not advertised as a "hard" case so it is what it is. The holster also adds security, the phone definitely feels locked in and I don't fear it will fall out like my old Blackberry used to do. The only negative is that the Touchstone does NOT work! I have read mixed reviews... some claim it does, others say it doesn't. I can say that my particular phone did not work with the Touchstone with this case on. (I did not have the felt "spacer" in place when testing it). I found the "sweet spot" and the phone did stick to the magnet but I only saw the charge indicator once for a split second and that was the end of it. As cool as the Touchstone is, I still choose this case/holster combo in the end and I returned the Touchstone. It sucks that I cant keep both but at the end of the day, this combo is so good that I decided a good case is better to have than a gimmicky charger that wont charge anything if the phone breaks from slipping out of my hand without the case! I still would've bought this had I known it wouldn't work with the Touchstone, I just wish they wouldn't advertise that it does work when it clearly doesn't. After trying many cases, this is still the best, highly recommended!update 12/18/09
So I'm 2 months into owning this combo and the disappointment has begun to set in. The phone has been kind of hard to put into the holster for a little while now. This sometimes requires 2 or 3 attempts before its locked in. Upon further investigation it turns out that one of the two rubber grip things on the clip went missing. Great. Then the phone started feeling a bit "creaky" lately. The back of the case was kind of wobbling. The culprit? a broken tab that holds it onto the phone (others have complained of this as well). This is in addition to cracking and peeling on the top of the case. The only way to explain how this looks is to picture a car that has been repainted, but then it gets a rock chip and you can see the old color beneath the new paint that chipped off. The back of the case has also lost a good deal of its grip...the once rubbery surface has begun to get shiny and slick. (I dont hold the phone to my ear all day, I have a bluetooth FYI) This has not been dropped or mishandled either. This is unacceptable! I take great care of my phone and this case. The phone is flawless under the case so "technically" the case has kept the phone in good shape, although this wasn't my main reason to purchase. I wanted a solid belt clip with more grip to the phone. I am now losing confidence in both of those aspects and I feel like I wasted [...]. Thanks Seidio. After reading Seidio's instructions for returns (more like demands) I think I'm better off just cutting my losses instead of dealing with the same crap that a replacement will for sure suffer from. They expect for me to pay to ship this thing back BEFORE they send a replacement! Am I supposed to leave my phone "naked" for the month it will take to return?! Here is a better idea. Send me a new one. I then send the junk one back. If its not damaged through material defect (which it is) then send me a bill!! Their return policy is almost accusing the customer of trying to swindle a free case. This is obviously nonsense, but even if that was the case, I think they could afford to give out a FEW free replacements after charging [...]! for a few pieces of thin plastic!! I guess the biggest lesson I have learned here is to use a product for a longer period of time before raving about it.
My new review after 2 months....
1 broken clip.
1 missing rubber stopper
chipped/peeling finish on the front
glossy/slippery "grip" on the back
does NOT work with touchstone!
[...] down the drain.
New update 12/20/08
Now one of the clips on the top broke. The case is off of my phone now and unusable. I cant even use the belt clip without the case!
Time to look for a replacement.

Seidio Innocase Surface for Palm Pre (Sapphire Blue) Review

Was great at first but now I regret the buy despite warnings I'd seen from other reviewers.
The case has a great texture and protects the phone fine. It works with the touchstone... tricky sometimes to place correctly but works none the less.
I received it on 22 January and now 17 February the front cover no longer stays on. The clip on the bottom right corner has worn and whenever I slide the phone or place it in my pocket the top piece comes off.
Should have known it was too good to be true!

Amzer Simple Snap On Case for Palm Pre (Black) Review

Pros: easy installation, doesn't add too much bulk, allows charging with the Touchstone.
Cons: expensive for a single half shell of plastic, protects only the back of the Pre.
All in all a decent purchase. I dropped the phone today and the shell fell off. No harm done to the phone and the shell popped right back on. I guess that's what it's all about.
