(More customer reviews)I have had this phone for about 2 weeks now (picked it up at a local store), while my Nokia N95-3 has been in for repair. As it turns out, the repair is not covered by warranty, nor "repairable"; so I am left with the choice of keeping the k850i, or returning it for a new N95 (probably the new N95 8GB NAM, aka. N95-4, not yet on Amazon; but aside from the support of North American 3G bands, identical to the N95-2).
I am leaning towards the latter. Much as I despise the Nokia warranty/repair service, and much as the N95 build quality is really sub-par for a phone in this price range, and much as Nokia seems pretty arrogant w.r.t. releasing up-to-date models for the US market, there is really no match when it comes to the phone itself.
Keep in mind, despite all the annoucements at the MWC in February, the N95 and the k850i are STILL the ONLY TWO phone models with 5MP cameras available for the US market - they both have quad-band GSM radios as well as North American W-CDMA/3G (UMTS-850 and UMTS-1900) support.
Here are some of the things I liked about the k850 over the N95:
* Better industrial design (look & feel). (Small details such as a rubber edge on the back side that allows the device to sit more firmly on e.g. slanted surfaces..)
* More solid construction - better build quality
* Tri-band UMTS (supports 3G speeds worldwide; can be used in Japan, where there is no GSM/2G coverage, only UMTS-2100; with the N95, you have to choose between UMTS-850/UMTS-1900 for North America or UMTS-2100 for international use.).
* Keys are spaced out a bit more than on the N95 - easer to type.
* Details of the UI are better thought through - e.g. text typing key functions/feedback.
* Some nice bundled applications: Stopwatch/Timer (which are curiously missing from the N95), a built-in flashlight application (uses the autofocus LED), and a built-in "remote control" application that allows cursor/keyboard control of bluetooth-enabled computer (e.g. for presentations)
* Real XENON flash! (+++) While indoor pictures are not as good as with a real standalone pocket camera, they are definitely better than the N95.
* Quicker camera action (e.g. shutter lag).
* I quite liked the navigation pad w/center button on top - but see below.
* Slightly slimmer, while not adding too much to the length (like the Nokia N82, for instance).
* [When compared to the non-8GB models N95-1 and N95-3] The screen is flush with the frame, leaving no creacks where smudge builds up.And here are some cons:
* Smaller screen (2.2" vs. 2.6" or 2.8").
* Not a smartphone - can only run J2ME/Java apps. (Since Java is a "secure" language, this leaves some of the phones capabilities out of reach for such applications; for instance, something like the "RotateMe" application for the N95 would not be possible, since it needs to access the phone's accelerometer).
* No built-in GPS (but navigation applications such as the free AmazeGPS will work fine with an external Bluetooth GPS adapter).
* No video out, no infrared, no WiFi.
* No standard 2.5mm or 3.5mm headset jack
* Uneven tactile feedback: The soft keys are touch sensitive, while the the numeric keys and the navigation pad are quite firm (strong tactile feedback).
* Various limits (e.g. 5-alarm limit, 1000-entry phonebook limit, limited fields per contact, etc).
* The surface attracts more smudge/fingerprints (in part due to the touch-sensitive buttons; but also on the back/camera-side)
* Battery life sucks!! (People diss the N95 - but I have never come across something as bad as the k850i...)
* Video streaming [...] does not work on AT&T's network! This seems to be a bug/interoperability issue with all Sony Ericsson phones. Setting a streaming proxy in the connection profile does not help. On the other hand, it IS still possible to stream from another computer or device that is connected to the internet through the phone (via Bluetooth or USB). Thus, this may be related to UDP port number assignments.
* No easy way to quickly turn the device "offline" (ie. airplane mode) without restarting. (As to why, search google for "884 MHz GSM"). OTOH, alarms still ring if the device is turned off.
* Menu layout and idle screen soft keys are NOT customizable! (Why!?! Even the otherwise crappy MOTO RAZR/KRZR phones allow this!!)Other thoughts:
* It is a little bit expensive for the feature set, when compared to the N95. I picked this up at Frys Electronics, a local store, for $499; it can be had online for about $420. In contrast, the N95-3 can be bought for about $550 now, and the N95-4 (NAM 8GB model) for about $650.
* People complain about the touch-buttons not registering all the time. The trick is to aim for the actual label on the screen, not the buttons themselves. Doing this, I have no issues.
* With either phone, get a custom dash mount/charging cradle (e.g. from proclipusa.com). Depending on your car, you might want to get the second part, the vehicle mount, from PanaVise instead (such as the Panavise Custom InDash Mount for Toyota Sienna '04-'06)

Sony Ericsson's K850 Cyber-shot phone makes it a breeze to stay in close communication with your contacts as well as snap brilliant photos on the go. It has a 5-megapixel autofocus lens and a Xenon flash for low-light conditions, and it's also loaded with a bevy of photographic features including multi-shot and video capture. The quad-band K850 GSM/EDGE phone is also ready to run on 3G networks here in the US (tri-band 850/1900/2100 MHz UMTS/HSDPA), enabling fast downloads and streaming multimedia while on the go. It also includes a stellar digital audio player, FM radio, Bluetooth stereo music streaming, Memory Stick Micro (M2) expansion, and up to 9 hours of talk time.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides quad-band connectivity (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider.
Phone Features The K850 has a 2.2-inch TFT screen with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and support for 256K colors. It features a blue backlit five-way navigation pad built into the numeric keypad, and the gunmetal gray body is accented by a blue stripe running down the side. The phone has a 40 MB memory (which can be expanded using optional Memory Stick Micro media), and it can store up to 1000 contact entries. The phone will also display the 30 most recent dialed/received/missed calls.
An automatic lens cover keeps the 5-megapixel lens on the back of the phone protected, and it includes a xenon flash for a burst of high-intensity light at just the right moment. An image stabilizer compensates for those small movements, reducing the chance that your photo comes out blurred. The BestPic function gives you nine chances to capture the precise moment you want. As well as your shot, the phones take four images as you press the button, and another four afterwards. Pick the one you want, trash the rest. Select the Photo Fix function to improve pictures that you think can be better. In a one-click operation, brightness, light and contrast are adjusted to give you the best possible picture. Other photographic features include a 16x digital zoom, red-eye reduction, picture blogging capabilities, and video capture (up to QVGA at 30 fps).
The digital audio player is compatible with a wide variety of formats, including MP3, AAC/AAC+, and WMA. Additionally, you can play MPEG4 and 3GPP videos. With the TrackID service, you can identify any song that you can hear by just recording a snippet of sound using the microphone. After sending the file for recognition, you'll have the name, artist and album sent to your phone. It also includes a built-in FM radio with RDS, which displays the name of the currently playing song (when tuned to compatible radio stations).
This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.
If you're looking for a mobile productivity partner, the K850 has you covered. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, and sound via MMS messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging possibilities. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.
The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. The K850 also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you.

(More customer reviews)I've been craving the perfect smartphone for a few years now. Seems you had to sacrifice for either size or features. Finally, this little guy comes along and I literally can't put it down. I The features are great and the form factor is perfect. It barely takes up more space in my pocket than the Razr it replaced. First, as many have mentioned, yes the Palm OS is dated, however as dated as it seems, it still blows the doors off of most phones out there. I want it simple. I don't need a ton of useless apps and fluff bogging down my phone. My primary need was for the following: 1) Good sound quality, 2) Robust calendar and alarm feature, 3) email capability, 4) easy texting, 5) decent camera (because you never know when you'll need to take a halfway decent pic in an emergency (auto accidents, unexpected events, etc.) The Centro delivers on all fronts. Here's my pros and cons:
PROS:
PHONE: Nice clear phone with great reception (in my area anyway, southeastern Pennsylvania). Speakerphone is loud and clear. Buttons to toggle speakerphone on/off well placed and easily quickly found on touchscreen. The layout is well-executed and all buttons/features easy to find. Callers can be identified by picture and ringtone.
MESSAGING: I LOVE the fact that messages are sorted in a chat/IM format. It makes it so much easier to keep up with back and forth conversations. And since new messages from someone who has already texted you are appended to the chat log, it's very easy to find older messages from certain people. The icons are a nice touch too. I haven't used the email feature. I have a Blackberry for that (sorry, it's the undisputed champ. Besides, I don't need 24X7 access to my personal email, only corporate).
PIM: What can I say, it's Palm. It's been around for ages, so I won't bore you with repetitive info. It's very easy to add information, synch with PC, and backup data. Contacts is great. You can add a lot of extra info (such as anniversaries, birthdays, etc.) for contacts that will be automatically added to calendar. Several fields including customizable ones, ensure you can enter pretty much any info you desire. Pictures can be added to contacts. The Palm software will even ask you if you wish to optimize the picture for use on the Palm. That's great and saves you the time of re-sizing an 8MP picture so it doesn't gobble a couple MB's on your handheld. Haven't really used memo yet, but it's basically a rudimentary scratch pad for notes.
CAMERA: The camera is adequate. It's by no means great (I've yet to find that on ANY cellphone), but it's on par with the best that's out there now. Though only 1.3 MP, images are clear and free from blur. Even low-light images are fairly decent half the time. Video is OK, although not as robust as the still-cam. (see more on this below)
EXTRAS: There are a few little extras: Documents to Go, Versamail, PocketTunes, etc. that I haven't bothered to use yet. I did install a 4GB microSD card and keep photos and music on it. Desktop software is standard Palm fare. If you are unfamiliar with it, there are plenty of reviews and info sites on the web. It is extremely easy to install, configure, and use. Internet access is standard mobile phone fare. Speeds were pretty good on Verizon's network. Battery life is great! I keep it on all day (power down overnight). I make calls, use the camera, frequently use the messaging, calendar, and contacts, and I'm on my third day without recharging (although it looks like I may do so tonight)
The fit and finish are fine. Although you can tell this phone is geared towards the budget crowd, it doesn't feel "cheap". It's just not as fancy as it's bigger brothers, however, it definitely feels solid and well-built in it's own right.
CONS:
I love the keyboard and realize there was no way to keep the form factor this size and make them any bigger. Although I don't have big sausage fingers, I still sometimes have difficulty navigating the micro-sized keys. Someone with larger fingers should definitely try it out in a store first. You can also dial the phone with soft buttons on the touchscreen
Video is a crap shoot. Sometimes videos are OK, other times the movements are kind of jerky. Depends on lighting and how fast your subject is moving. Fortunately, my expectations weren't that high to begin with. Like 99% of the video phones, it's adequate, just not great.
The USB sync cable is difficult to remove . It almost feels like you're going to break it when you pull it out. There are no buttons or release switches.
The battery door is also extremely difficult to remove/replace. You have to push down on just the right place. The microSD card took a couple attempts to seat properly. The instructions said it should "click" into place, however mine didn't click, it just slid in until it stopped. My first attempt I failed to fully insert it and the card wasn't detected. You have to remove the battery cover to access the microSD slot, so I wasn't very happy about doing that again.
Other than these few minor annoyances, I having yet found any glaring cons with this phone. I love it and would highly recommend it if you're searching for a robust smartphone that isn't the size of a brick.

(More customer reviews)I've been a loyal Nokia user since the 8860. They have just always been fun, straight forward and easy to use phones. The only thing Nokia lacks here in the USA is the customization options that the rest of the world enjoys on a daily basis. Most phones are locked down by carriers and rebranded with their own applications here in the US. This unlocked GSM capable Nokia makes that a thing of the past. Don't want to pay AT&T for an internet fee and a GPS navigation fee? Done. Want to delete whatever programs you wish from the phone? Done. Want to download apps that directly compete and are better than the ones AT&T or T-Mobile force you to use? Done.
Calls come through loud and clear on AT&T's network. I have full 3G coverage and have yet to drop a call. When using the internet away from a WiFi network, you get access to AT&T's speedy 3.5G network. 3.5G comes in very handy when using the free GPS turn by turn navigation. Yes, outside the US Nokia has been doing this for ages. It's the greedy US carriers that have blocked it all these years. Not anymore with an unlocked phone from Nokia, although you still need a data plan from your carrier. Battery life is great too, but that's expected from Nokia.
Messaging works great with easy access to received and sent texts, and the keyboard makes for speedy typing. Plus several of the keys have very handy shortcuts to commonly used features such as bluetooth, emoticons (smileys) , and a flashlight.
WiFi is a breeze to use. You can view networks in range and even set priority levels for which ones you prefer to use. The screen is a little small to be your go to surfing device, but it's more than competent for checking email, posting on facebook, and looking up sports scores.
The device also comes with a mobile version of Microsoft Office document reader. This is extremely handy for the mobile professional.
One other great thing about this unlocked phone is that you can listen to FM or internet radio. I have missed this feature since AT&T began locking their phones down around the time of the Cingular branded Nokia 6230 (my still going strong backup phone). Pair this with a 3.5mm headphone jack and the more than capable music player, and you have yourself a nice little music phone.
The only complaint I have with this phone is the cheaper TFT screen Nokia used to keep the cost down. This does cause the screen to become washed out in direct sunlight, but only from one side. It's weird, if you tilt the phone to the left, the screen stays bright, but when you tilt the phone to the right, the screen becomes washed out. With that said, I live in Denver where we get over 300 days of sun every year. I have yet to be in a situation where I could not read the screen. If its too dark you can simply change your theme to a brighter, more colorful one to help with visibility.Pros:

Sprint disabled the phone as modem capability unless you purchase a data plan to allow this capability. (This capability was free with the Treo 650 after a number of consumers fought with Sprint to enable this capability.
Overall:
The Treo 755p is worth purchasing if you do not currently have a Treo device. If you have a Windows mobile version, I highly recommend this version due to the higher display resolution.
I only recommend this version for anyone that currently has a Treo if and only if they want to get rid of their external antenna and would like faster data speeds. Remember, if you currently use your phone as a modem you will have to pay an additional ~40.00 USD if you would like to keep this capability with the 755p.
Remember this is a smart phone and not a normal cell phone. There is a lot going on in this device and it will need to be restarted on occasion.

Combining the software and features of the Treo 700p with the slimmer, antenna-less 680/750 form-factor, the Palm 755p from Sprint handles everything you want from a smartphone--direct push email (via Microsoft Direct Push Technology), powerful PIM organization, multimedia playback, and still photo and video capture. It operates on Sprint's North American CDMA voice network, as well as on Sprint's Mobile Broadband Network (EV-DO), which enables you to quickly access audio, video and data applications. The Treo 755p also features Google Maps for mobile, MiniSD memory card expansion, 1.3-megapixel camera, and Bluetooth connectivity for communication headsets.
For email, the Treo 755p now offers VersaMail 3.5.4 with built-in Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support for Microsoft Direct Push Technology, which delivers automatic updates to Outlook email. Design At 5.64 ounces (160 grams), the 755p sheds nearly 12 percent of the 700p's weight (6.4 ounces), and it feels less bulkier in your pocket without the antenna stub. Under the hood, the Treo 680 features Palm OS 5.4.9, 64MB of non-volatile flash memory available for user storage, and an Intel PXA270 312 MHz processor. It also features a 320 x 320-pixel color touchscreen, full QWERTY backlit keypad, and application buttons (which are customizable). The expansion card slot is compatible with MiniSD cards, and supports up to 2 GB of memory (memory cards sold separately).

Calling and PDA Features All of the Treo 755p's phone and PDA functions are designed to provide an integrated, seamless experience. For instance, you can type in the name or initials of a contact on the keypad to dial them. Or, use the touch-screen and stylus to copy information from an email and quickly paste it into another email or text message. You can view messages waiting in a preemptive alert window, and the favorites view is now in one vertical easy-to-see list. A large onscreen dial pad can be accessed on the color touch screen, and you don't need to go to another application to access the contact list--calling and contacts are all completely integrated. All of the latest phone features folks expect are built-in, too, like a handsfree speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones, a vibrate mode and picture caller ID. The capacity of the unit's address book is only limited by the amount of internal and expansion memory available.
The Treo 755p is also a fully functional Palm OS device. That means that a huge library of applications, from spreadsheets to word processors to games, can be added to the Treo 755p. Download, view, and edit Word and Excel compatible files, rehearse a PowerPoint presentation, even review PDF files, directly on the 755p's touchscreen. It's easy to perform multiple tasks like checking your calendar while talking on the phone or dialing calls directly from your contacts list. Familiar Palm OS software ships with the handset including calendar, calculator, clock, contacts, memo, and task management applications. Meanwhile, the unit's memory expansion slot allows you to transfer music, photos, and video from your desktop. Or, use it to load additional games and applications.
