(More customer reviews)I bought this product because I needed something that would fit in my pocket that I could use to prop up my heavy and expensive Droid 2 without having to buy the $20 media dock that I don't need.
All things considered, it gets the job done, but there are things I didn't like about it. First of all, I was under the impression that it was made out of plastic. Instead, I found that it was made out of some sort of dense cardboard material (probably not the best description). As I mentioned, I have a Droid 2, and one of the first things I noticed when I picked it up after a year of my previous touch screen phone was that it felt pretty heavy. Of course, it's just a phone, so it's pretty menial anyway, but by phone standards, the Droid 2 is a heavy phone, and this is a problem when the thing its sitting on is made out of dense, thick paper. In landscape mode, the "claws" bend inward and look like they're about to collapse, but fortunately, they don't. My first reaction was disappointment but it really doesn't affect anything. It returns to normal shape as soon as you take the phone off. However, this illustrates another problem. Touching your phone will probably make the thing slip out because it wants to bend everywhere. When watching a movie this isn't really a problem but when you want to do something on your phone and you don't want to pick it up, you'll have to be careful, especially if you're viewing it at a higher degree angle.
The other problem is that there's a few features advertised that this thing does not do well. One of them is being able to angle the phone however you want (obviously within a certain range). You'll instead find that when you try to angle it acutely or obtusely to change the angle of your phone, it will bend right back into shape. The little rubber pads on each arm don't do much to stop this. This doesn't bother me too much either, but again, it could bother some of you. At least it does hold the phone in portrait mode pretty well, but it's at a low angle anyways, and I think most people would prefer landscape.
The other feature it mentions is being able to fold in half. Sure, it technically DOES fold in half, but it's not going to stay that way unless you put a rubber band or something around it. I've tried completely flattening the thing while folding up and it still pops right back out. Speaking of which, apparently this thing fits in your wallet unfolded. I don't think so, maybe my wallet is small but it wasn't fitting anywhere in mine, and because the thing doesn't want to fold, I'm left putting it in my pocket, but every time I stuff it in there I feel like I might bend it and break the thing.
When it comes right down to it, the crabble is a phone stand. Don't want to prop your phone up on whatever crap you have on your desk, and don't want to stare straight down at it just to watch a movie? The crabble will fix that problem. It's small, it's flat, and it's simple, which is great if you don't want something poking your thigh. Better yet, if you have a big enough wallet, keep it in there. Don't expect it to amaze you though. If they made this thing out of hard plastic, put a hinge on it that let you adjust the angle of your phone without it bending back on its own, and added a big rubber pad across the bottom, I would have paid about $10 for it. Instead, I felt like I should have paid $5. Luckily, my only requirement was that it held my phone up without letting it fall over and fit inside my pocket, and I'm not going to miss $8. I just wish they hadn't settled for mediocre, or this could have been the slimmest phone stand on the market.
