(More customer reviews)This product arrived in what appears to be retail packaging, but not one of those plastic packages that can't be opened unless you go at it with an industrial laser or run over it with a tank. The charger was easy to remove from the outer package (I appreciated that). The only-three-stars rating is due partly to the feeling of slight flimsiness when the insert for the Samsung battery is attached to the main housing of the charger. I hope it doesn't loosen up over time.
The charger doesn't seem to come with any instructions. That surprised me a bit. These days most electronic devices come with literature containing tons of safety warnings (don't attempt to use the device while river-rafting; don't attempt to swallow the device without chewing...that sort of thing). Not that it took long to figure out how to use it, but I would have liked to see some information about using the USB port: is it used only for power out to the phone being charged? Or can it also be used for power _in_ from a powered USB port? I'll have to write to Seidio about it.
At first I thought the charger was defective -- the charging light (a red LED; turns green when the battery is fully charged) didn't come on when the device was plugged into an AC outlet. Then I realized that the unit had been shipped with its "AC/USB" slide switch at the USB position. I changed it to "AC" and then the charger worked just fine.
[Edit: one good thing about Seidio: they respond to e-mail inquiries very quickly. Their reply to my question about power-in via USB: "The Multi-Function Battery Charger does have the ability to receive power via USB-USB cable. If you are using a computer to charge your device, you will need to switch the power to USB. If you are using an outlet, you will need to switch to AC and plug the charger directly into the wall."]
