When my brother broke his cell phone and needed a new one, our local AT&T store was having a buy-one-get-one-free special on Pantech phones. I didn't really need a new cell phone, but I wanted to help my brother out and joined him on this special. There were three phones we could choose from and I chose this BLUE PANTECH IMPACT P7000. I mainly use my cell phone for telephone calls and to send text messages. I occasionally take pictures or video and every once in while play Tetris.
This is only the 2nd cell phone I have owned. My first cell phone had a regular number pad and I got used to texting old school style. However, I have to say that I love the QWERTY keyboard. It really is easier to text this way than on a regular number pad.
I really like flip phones, but they are getting more and more difficult to come by as it seems cell phone companies are set on switching everything over to touch screens. This is a clamshell type phone, so it's not exactly a flip phone, but it works for me. I also like having actual buttons on my phone. The numbers on the number pad are touch numbers, but they are close enough to real buttons. A protective film is recommended for the number pad because the thin coating on the pad can be scratched quite easily.
The sound quality of the phone is great. All incoming calls have sounded to me like I was talking on a landline telephone. The phone also has a speakerphone, but you have to open it up in order to use the feature.
You can store up to 1,000 contacts in the phone, so basically you're phone can now be a handheld phone book. You can between 3-5 telephone numbers for each contact, 1-2 emails addresses, and a photo ID for each contact.
I have used the alarm on the phone a few times on trips when I left my alarm clock at home or when I was at home and needed an extra alarm to help wake me up. The alarm is loud and slowly increases in volume. It can be set to repeat itself.
I've used the phone to take a few videos and pictures. The video feature can be used without opening the clamshell, but in order to take regular pictures you have to open the clamshell. Both the picture and video quality is superb, especially for a cell phone. There's no graininess in the pictures and videos I've taken.
Besides the usual ringing mode and vibrating mode, there are a few other modes you can set the phone to, including an airplane mode. I used the airplane mode while flying during the summer and it worked well. I was able to keep my phone on and use most of the features, but not have to worry about incoming calls or texts messing up the planes controls.
In addition to all of this, the phone has a calendar, notepad, memo recorder, world clock, calculator, tip calculator, unit converter, stopwatch, and timer.
The phone isn't a smart phone, but it is web capable. However, that's not a feature I'm interested in having on my phone and I've not used my phone to connect to the Internet.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the PANTECH IMPACT P7000. It has all of the features and frills I was looking for on a cell phone, is easy to use, and is a good mixture of old school design with top tier technology. If you're looking for a cell phone to primary use for telephone calls and texting, but with maybe a few frills, I recommend it.
