(More customer reviews)Another reviewer has stated this product was designed the iPhone, but he is incorrect. The speaker on the iPhone is placed lower than the Vibrant than the iPhone, so this simply doesn't match up (tested with an iPhone 4).
While many other protectors for the Vibrant leave an area cut at the top above the speaker, this protector has just the speaker cut out, ensuring the area above is still protected. However, there appears to be an issue with the "adhesive" near this cut-out, and you may see small bubbles around it. I thought this could possibly be due to the phone being raised somehow near this area, but after applying a second protector to my phone and looking closer at my wife's Vibrant, this is not the case. Our phones both have different bubbles (hers are almost non-existent), but to complain about this is being very nit-picky.
[EDIT: Customer service contacted me about this issue and explained the cause. Let me reiterate; unless you are specifically looking at the speaker, you'll forget they are even there.]
Another reviewer has mentioned that there are not areas cut out for the proximity and light sensors, and he is 100% correct. For everyday use, I have noticed no loss of functionality. In testing there is a slight difference, but it is very negligible. You can download "ProxyLightTester" from the Marketplace for free to test it for yourself.
The size of the protector near perfect, and if the size was any bigger you'd find it hard to place correctly on your phone. It will cover 100% of your screen, and if you have a case that goes over the edges of the phone you won't even notice the incredibly small slits uncovered.
The protective coating on the front of the protector has a strange oily gloss to it, and mine personally has a very noticeable half-inch line of this about 1/4th of the way down the protector that goes across the span of the it. This is only noticeable when the screen is turned off. However, my wife's protector has the same line higher up, which is slightly noticeable above the screen when in use. Not a deal breaker, but not perfection.
[EDIT: In testing the "bubble" issue near the speaker and applying another protector, this one as well has the line in an almost identical spot. Customer service has contacted me stating this is a known issue, and that it is caused during transit. They went as far as to offer replacements to me without me having to contact them... very good customer service!]
Finally, this protector seems a lot more "smudgy" than some others I have owned. This is usually more apparent when the protector is still new, and it already appears to be getting better with use. The felt cloth that comes with this unit is larger than most, so I just keep it in my laptop case to clear off fingerprints with ease.
My original review gave this product 4-stars, but one of the biggest reasons for it was due to the fact that I also initially believed this product was simply re-listed to be sold as a Vibrant protector. Since the iPhone theory is now dead, I have no issues giving it a full 5-star rating. While many people have stated putting a protector on this phone is a bit redundant due to Gorilla Glass being used on the Vibrant, you lose no functionality by applying it, so why not have an extra layer of protection? This is the 4th protector I've tried for the Samsung Vibrant, and it will most likely being the one staying for the long haul.
