(More customer reviews)I'd like to give this a higher rating, but I cannot.
The material used seems to be durable and a notch or two above what you get with other screen protectors.
But the one for my HTC Touch Pro 2 has openings that were in the wrong places. Also, Skinomi has chosen to design the protector to cover not only the full face of the unit, but the sides as well. This makes an already nightmarish installation even more so.
And the installation is a nightmare.
Skinomi includes a spray bottle filled with something - they don't tell you what this something is, just that you must wet your fingers with it before attempting to install the protector. I don't know about you, but I want to know exactly what I am being asked to spray on my skin. Skinomi says "Out of solution? Just refill with water. There is enough residue in this bottle for several refills." Residue? Residue of what? Yes, I did spray this gunk on my fingers, several times as a matter of fact, but I did not like the idea at all. Skinomi should be more forthcoming about what is in this secret soup.
You also have to spray both sides of the protector with this magic formula. How much is enough? Skinomi doesn't tell you: ". . . spray it with the application solution , moistening both sides of the exposed film". Uh, folks, that really isn't good enough. With the cheap applicator, you're going to wind up with an even coating of small and large droplets, which makes the installation sa torturous process.
The film has a high tack adhesive and maneuvering it into a proper position for application is, as I've said, a total nightmare. Part of this pain could be alleviated if Skinomi split the backing paper so you could start with a smaller section and more or less unroll the rest once you've got it started properly. Too bad they didn't do this.
Because the protector is larger than the face of the unit, what will become the side aprons flop down, stick to the sides and further complicate the install.
Air bubbles are a problem with installing any screen protector. Skinomi includes a plastic card for smoothing them out. But because you've spritzed a liquid on the protector, you not only have air bubbles, but liquid bubbles as well. Spotting all the bubbles is difficult.
Repositioning the film while you're installing it, is a major pain. Worse yet, the adhesive on the film becomes clouded or abraded when you reposition it. At least it did on mine.
Skinomi says "Micro-bubbles, streaks, and imperfections will disappear within in a few days". Time will tell. A day after installing my Skinomi, it looks awful with tiny bubbles that I didn't see and cloudy areas.
I will say that the material looks and feels more durable than what I've seen in other screen protectors. But the design does not lend itself to easy application and the unidentified liquid that you spray on your fingers leaves me uncomfortable.
Forget about the "lifetime replacement guaranty" they boast of in their ad here. When you look it up on their website, it says "The replacement guarantee does not cover silicone cases, installation errors including air bubbles, dust or dirt caught underneath the TechSkin, and improper alignment of the film on your device. Please follow the installation instructions carefully when applying TechSkin." Well, installing this protector without air bubbles and improper alignment is quite chore.
I've been using screen protectors with various devices - a lot of them - for a long time and I've never encountered one this miserable to install.
I'd strongly urge that you consider other alternatives. I'm leaving this on until a replacement from another manufacturer arrives and then off it comes.
A side comment: I emailed the manufacturer about my complaints three days ago - and have received no response.
