Trident Cases Cyclops Series for HTC Evo 4G - Yellow Review

I bought 2 of these, one for my wife and I. I would rate it a 5 but there's a problem with the protective screen and camera lens on both that makes our pictures come out with a hue of the case color, in this case yellow, my wife's is blue. The manufacturer knows about the problem, simply remove the protective lens although I would have preffered to keep them intact.. Almost perfect.

HTC EVO 4G Android Phone (Sprint) Review

HTC EVO 4G Android Phone (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To give you the perspective that I'm coming from, I'm not a dedicated techie. I upgraded to the EVO from a Treo Centro (sorry Palm OS!). Though I know what a Snapdragon processor is, my review won't be on that level of expertise. I'd rate my ability to adapt to new technology as fair-to-middling.
Here goes: The phone itself is classy looking. When off, it reminds me of the black stone monolith in 2001, A Space Odyssey. When on, the screen is bright, and has VERY sharp detail (again, I'm coming from the perspective of my Centro). The pinch and spread function (to contract or spread the picture on the screen) works very smoothly and consistently. The "flick" function, used to scroll through apps, is wonderful, don't know how I did without it before. The screen is QUITE sensitive to touch, requiring a bit of getting used to for someone who does not count manual dexterity amongst my assets. Though the phone is big (4.2 inch screen)it is very slender, not heavy, and I don't find it cumbersome in the least. It is comfortable in the hand.
The camera: first, it has two: the heavy duty one (8 megapixel) faces out the back, a 1 megapixel on the keyboard side. In a 4G area (I'm not, yet), this allows video phone calls, I'm told. The camera has autofocus and a surprisingly bright flash. Picture quality seems good to very good.
Sound: I'm a bit hard of hearing, no problems at all with this phone. The sound quality is the best I've ever had on a cell phone. EVO has very few buttons, but it does have a very easy to use up and down volume buttons on the upper left side of the phone, works great.
Keyboard. Well, hmmm. My Centro had a manual keyboard, and if there is anything that I really miss with the EVO, it's actual keys. Though the virtual keyboard is BIG when the phone is tilted to landscape mode, many functions on the phone (including entering contacts!) only allow the portrait keyboard for Qwerty. The phone has three keyboards to choose from, so if you're a whiz with the standard cell phone keyboard that kids are miraculously good at texting with, you can choose that format. I'm getting better, but still quite a few errors in keying.
Speed: in a word: fast. Very little lag between functions, even when more than one function is chugging along.
Voice recognition: the Google search by voice is (for a novice like me) nothing short of a miracle. Say "Quilt stores", and the phone takes into account your GPS location, in seconds a list of quilt stores (or Starbucks, or mountain biking trails)is at your disposal. SO cool! The directory search for phone contacts by voice is a bit more hesitant, could stand some spiffing.
Apps: Holy Cow! Again, I'm a novice, but the very accurate GPS, in conjunction with entertainment apps such as Yelp! and Flixter, is mind-boggling. Touch Flixter, and this very smart phone instantly (NO input required) brings up all theaters, movie times, trailers, Rotten Tomato ratings, AND, all the restaurants in the area of your chosen movie, AND turn by turn directions to the theater thanks to Google Maps. Basically, get off a plane anywhere in North America, you're ready to roll!
The GPS. Eerie, when combined with Google Maps. To navigate, you don't have to enter your starting place, the phone already KNOWS where you are. With a function called "layers", while navigating from point to point you can incorporate a satellite view, giving you an awesome (and distracting!) view of all the territory/buildings around you, for miles, depending on the scale that you choose. Get a (free) sports app, and the GPS/accelerometer kicks in to tell you exactly how far you've gone, maps the route you've taken, tells you how much elevation you've gained (!), and how many calories (incorporating your weight) that you've burned. Crikey, what fun! I used the GPS first day out with my EVO to find a restaurant, than used the voice turn by turn (it does call out specific street names, not just "turn left" or "turn right"). It was flawless, and VERY up to date with recent construction in the area.
WiFi, signed on to my home network without any trouble.
Ability to personalize: terrific, many options to "make it your own".
Synchronization with multiple functions: terrific. No trouble setting up e-mail accounts (you MUST have a Gmail account for full function). I calendar with the online Google calendar on my laptop, the transfer to my phone calendar is automatic and virtually instantaneous.
Bad stuff: they lie if they say that getting all your Palm OS data is going to transfer accurately. Argh. But I'm getting it straightened out. In the "Someday" category: EVO does not support Netflix instant play yet, nor Hulu. I'm a family doc, it DOES support Epocrates, an essential pharmacology data base.
Battery life: I'm guessing 4 hours of continual multi-use, way better than that for talk time only. This multi-function micro-mainframe of an instrument has multiple draws on its battery: GPS, WiFi, AND, you can actually talk on the thing.
So here's my bottom line: If they could give me an easier keyboard, or allow full voice recognition (I use and love Dragon 10.1 at work), EVO and I would become soul mates. As it is, after about a day and a half of adapting to a non-Palm OS system (I had one of the original Palm Pilots), I can tell that a long and fruitful friendship is in the making with this product. The leap from a semi-smart phone, like the Palm Centro, to this one is a quantum leap, not a simple upgrade. Without exaggeration, I can say that the EVO will change the way I operate on a day to day basis. I can also say that it is a whoppingly fun toy to play with!
7/20/2010 Addendum/Update: This is a great phone, and I'll stick by my original statement that it is a quantum leap, not an upgrade, over any previous smart phone that I've owned. BUT...the battery life is a real problem. Even with an App Killer, and even with the GPS and Wi-Fi turned off when I don't need them, well...let's talk car gas mileage and gas mileage for Army tanks. With cars, you describe gas consumption in terms of miles per gallon. With tanks, you describe it in gallons per mile (this is true). If not a tank, the EVO is at least a half-track regarding energy consumption: that little green bar informing you about battery life keeps you mentally tethered to the nearest wall outlet or USB port. I have never run the battery completely down during a workday, but I've come uncomfortably close. There is no question that the value of the EVO would be significantly improved by tripling its battery life, or making replacement/spare batteries available at low cost. Otherwise...I love my Evo!
8-14-2010 Update: The Froyo (Android 2.2) update was simple and flawlessly executed. Even better, it is a substantial improvement. From the very useful Flashlight app that uses the phone's flash LED's as a flashlight, to the quicker transition from one app to another, it's a winner. On a different note, those of you that wonder whether you can "tether" your Evo to your computer as a modem, using a cheap or free one-time app instead of a $29/month fee from Sprint: yes. Which makes the phone even more valuable in hotels and airports that want to charge $10/day for internet, not to mention being on a road trip.
9/30/10 Update: Purchased the Seido battery that has double the capacity of the OEM battery: it's for real! No question whatsoever that I'm going to get through the whole day with power to spare, even leaving Wi-Fi and GPS on, even using the screen for Kindle reading for extended periods. The battery, contrary to what some reviewers have said about it, does significantly add to the weight and thickness of the phone. For me the issue is no contest: I no longer need to know where the nearest electrical socket is, and I have freedom to use all the phone's functions without fear of the color red on the battery bar showing up.

HTC EVO 4G Power Management
The HTC EVO 4G offers new capabilities for a smartphone that require more power, which can impact its battery life more than what you may have experienced using other smartphones.

It has more radios to power (3G, 4G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS).
It features a larger screen than most typical smartphones.
It offers more capabilities than most typical smartphones, including:
Management of multiple email accounts and syncing
WiFi access point
WiFi Router capability
4G data
GPS
Access to several 3rd party applications through the Market
Applications and Processes running in the background

With the HTC EVO 4G, you have the ability to manage your phone's power consumption to optimize its battery life. These include:
Battery Usage Tools Before you are ready to charge your phone you can view what has been using your battery during this charge cycle.
Settings -> About Phone -> Battery -> Battery use
Multiple Radios
The multiple radios on this device will use battery life even when you are not using them.

To improve battery life, turn off your Bluetooth, GPS, 4G, Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi Sprint Mobile Hotspot if you are not using them.
4G Connectivity
The 4G radio should only be turned ON when the improved network speed is required for an application, such as YouTube, Web Browsing, or Sprint Mobile Hotspot. When not in use, its important to use the built-in 4G widget (preloaded on Home tile left of center) to turn the 4G radio OFF.

If you have your 4G radio ON, but are no longer in 4G coverage then your device will be scanning in an attempt to re-acquire the 4G network. Your battery can be significantly drained by the scanning processes, so if you know you will be out of 4G coverage for an extended period of time or if you are not acquiring a 4G signal as indicated in the task bar, it would be important to turn your 4G radio OFF.
E-mail Applications Settings
The e-mail settings allow you to setup peak and off-peak hours for e-mail sync on each email account.

Pop Account
Mail -> Menu -> More -> Settings -> Send & Receive -> Set Download Frequency

Exchange Account
Mail -> Menu -> More -> Settings -> Send & Receive -> Schedule

Generally, less frequent syncing equates to better battery life.
Google Talk
As soon as you sign up for the Google Market or Gmail with your Gmail account information, you are also signed in to the Google Talk instant messaging application. The Talk application tracks the presence of your Google Talk contacts in order to let you know who is available to instant message. Each presence change uses a small amount of power even if you do not have the Talk application open.

If you have numerous contacts who are changing presence throughout the day all of these small impacts to your battery can add up to significantly shorten your battery life.

Switching between 3G and 4G coverage
When switching between 3G and 4G coverage, the HTC EVO 4G may experience a very brief interruption of data service as the device switches network connections. During this brief interruption, applications attempting to access data may be unable to do so and may display an error message. Below are some examples of how to proceed if an error message appears on the device. Other data-usage applications may experience a very brief interruption and will continue functioning once the network handoff is complete.

Trident Case Electra Series for HTC EVO 4G - Black (Free HandHelditems Sketch Universal Stylus Pen) Review

Trident Case Electra Series for HTC EVO 4G - Black (Free HandHelditems Sketch Universal Stylus Pen)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
recently purchased an evo 4g and needed a case.. but the Otterbox was not for me. on to the review..
pros:
-the screen protector is a part of the case, which means no bothering with sticking one on and hoping no air bubbles persist.the screen is VERY responsive, have yet to notice a difference
-the cameras and microphones and speakers are recessed by the hard shell case, which protects them from getting hurt while putting the phone down, etc.. (the evo's camera sticks out on the back without the case, which is dumb in my opinion)
-the phone's ORIGINAL kickstand works fine with this case, although I don't use it much.
-all ports are covered by removable silicon flaps
-Trident sells other "mySkin" things for like $8, marketed currently for their "Cyclops" series, but after a call to Trident, these milti-colored replacement silicon bands DO work on the Electra as well. for that price, you can have a couple different colors for the silicon band!
cons:
-bulky feel to the phone, but not as bad as the Otterbox. this is expected.. and not much of a con because I like the feel of the phone still.
-the silicone flap that covers the headphone jack is hard to remove (maybe this will change over time, but I don't use headphones much with it)
-lint collects easily on the silicone, just as with other silicone cases.
for those of you confused by the case, there is a two-part hard shell that snaps on surrounding your phone. the extended battery fits in and their provided phone backing replaces the one included with the phone. Then, the silicon "ring" surrounds the edges of the phone, covering the seal between the two hard shell pieces. The ring actually "snaps in" to the plastic hard shell, which is a nice feature (one of my snaps won't fit in, but Trident offered a replacement.. not sure if I will bother)
as for the battery... well I was immediately impressed by the better performance, but have yet to really be able to tell if the improved performance has sustained... I think that, after reading a review on another extended battery, one might have to "guess" when the battery is done charging instead of trusting the phone's meter, because someone remarked that the phone calls 1500 mA 100%, and does not know that the new battery is 2800 mA.
overall, good buy!

This case fits the Evo quite well, but for a supposedly OEM product made by HTC themselves - I don't think this is the best case available for the Evo 4G.
I have also used the Splash CRUISER Slim-Fit PolyCarbonate Slider Case for HTC EVO, which in my opinion is a superior case.
However, for the price, this is a decent case, but the fit could have been a bit better.

ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for HTC Evo 4G (Screen) Review

ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for HTC Evo 4G (Screen)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've purchased invisibleSHIELD products for five different devices (including my HTC EVO 4G) over the last few years, and I've always been completely satisfied. That's why I was surprised to discover nearly as many one-star reviews for this product on Amazon.com as five-star reviews.
I realize that the invisibleSHIELD isn't a perfect screen-protection solution, but I feel that many of the complaints detailed in these one-star reviews aren't entirely fair. So, for those who are wary about purchasing the invisibleSHIELD on the basis of the negative product reviews posted here, I'd like to respond to some of the most common criticisms:
"It's too hard to install."
True, installation is a bit tricky, and I'd urge anyone who's never installed an invisibleSHIELD film to watch one of the installation videos at Zagg's website before attempting it. But, if you know what to expect and prepare accordingly, installation is actually fairly easy. In addition to Zagg's installation pointers, I'd offer the following suggestions:
- Choose a clean, well-lit environment for installation.
- Close windows, turn off ceiling fans, air conditioners, forced-air heating systems, etc., at least ten minutes before installation to allow dust in the air to settle. Likewise, to keep the air free of dust particles, don't use a compressed-air duster to clean your device at the time of installation.
- Just prior to installation, dip your fingers in white vinegar (then wipe them dry with a clean microfiber cloth) to cut skin oil and prevent fingerprints from forming on the adhesive side of the film. (Do this before moistening your fingers with the application solution, as Zagg recommends.)
- Be sure that the device is completely free of any visible debris or skin-oil residue before installation. Polish it thoroughly with a clean microfiber cloth and distilled water or a commercial LCD cleaning solution.
- During installation, apply enough of the application solution to the film so that, if the alignment isn't immediately correct, you can "slide" it into position without having to remove and reapply it. (NOTE: I tend to use quite a bit of the solution during installation, and, to my mind, that's the key to a successful installation. I know some people object to this approach on the theory that, the more solution you use, the greater the risk of solution seeping into and damaging your device. I try to safeguard against this, first, by squeegeeing out excess solution away from openings, ports, and buttons, second, by soaking up excess solution with an absorbent cloth as I squeegee, and, third, by keeping the device powered off for a full twenty-four hours after installation to allow any solution inside the device to dry.)
"It looks terrible."
A sloppy installation job will produce ugly results. The best way to achieve a clean look is to study the installation process ahead of time and follow the installation instructions exactly. That said, even after a successful installation, you're still likely to notice numerous microbubbles and other imperfections in the invisibleSHIELD film. If you do, stay calm, and resist the impulse to remove and reapply the film -- chances are good you'll only make things worse by doing so. As long as you're satisfied with the alignment and can detect no creases, buckling, or large bubbles in the film, leave it alone. Virtually all of the remaining imperfections really will vanish over time. Zagg advises that you should allow two to three days for the imperfections to disappear, but my experience is that the most disappear within a matter of hours.
Note that, after installation, you may observe a subtle texture in the surface of the film under certain lighting conditions. This isn't a flaw; it's a function of the invisibleSHIELD's so-called "Nano-Memory technology," which gives the film its strength, durability, and self-healing capacity. It's not noticeable during normal use of the device.
"It doesn't stay on."
In order to prevent the invisibleSHIELD film from peeling off your device at the sides or corners, it's important that you allow it to "cure" completely following installation. Set it aside, and leave it alone for a full twenty-four hours. (I realize this is easier said than done, especially if you're just dying to play with your shiny new toy.) As long as you've installed the film flush against the surface of the device (taking care that the sides or corners don't "hang" over the edges), it should, once cured, stick securely to the device until you decide to remove it.
Note, however, that even a completely cured film can work loose if you carry your device in a tight-fitting case. Zagg actually warns of this and notes that the invisibleSHIELD is designed to protect your device in lieu of a case, not in addition to a case. If you insist on additional protection, choose a skin or pouch that doesn't grip the invisibleSHIELD-protected surfaces of device too tightly.
"It's too sticky. My finger doesn't glide across it."
This appears to be a common complaint, and you'll probably notice a difference between the feel of the invisibleSHIELD film and the feel of the glass touchscreen it's protecting. But, I've never found the film to be so tacky, sticky, or rubbery that it compromises the HTC EVO 4G's touchscreen in any way. I've noticed absolutely no reduction in touchscreen sensitivity, and the film surface is smooth enough that I can input text using the Swype keyboard without issue.
"It gets dirty too easily, and it's hard to clean."
I haven't found that the invisibleSHIELD film attracts dirt, fingerprints, or smudges any more readily than the glass touchscreen underneath, but I do think it retains them a bit more stubbornly. For me, this is a small price to pay for the peace of mind I get knowing my device is protected. Even though your device won't come clean on the fly by wiping it on your shirt sleeve, a quick polish with a microfiber cloth and distilled water or a commercial LCD cleaning solution will do the trick.
It's important to remember that any screen-protection solution will alter the feel and appearance of your device to some degree, so don't expect the invisibleSHIELD to be truly "invisible." But, if you're looking for a screen protector that's easy to install, provides reliable protection, and is minimally obtrusive both visually and tangibly, it's hard to do much better than the invisibleSHIELD.

Seidio SURFACE Case for HTC EVO 4G (Black) Review

Seidio SURFACE Case for HTC EVO 4G (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this case almost right away after buying my Evo. I debated on the quality of the case because it is actually two pieces, cut across horizontally. However, when you put the case together, the build is very solid, and fits the phone very tightly. The case feels very like a very hard rubber (or maybe a soft plastic) - not too slick like plastic and not to "rubber sticky". Also, there is a soft velvety material inside so that the case does not scratch up the phone if you have to remove it to get at the SD card - enhancing the snug fit. The best feature of the case has to do with the camera. The back camera on the Evo sticks out and will surely get scratched up over time, but the camera does not stick out beyond the case, so you can feel at ease setting the phone down on its back.
My only dislikes deals with the kickstand and power button. The phone will wobble when sitting on the kickstand. This is frustrating for two reasons. One, it shifts the phone's COG such that if you were to press the screen, the phone would likely tip over. The second part is that the phone will wobble if it is on any surface with vibrations running through it (like in the car). The power button is almost perfectly flush with the top of the phone, and the case can makes it tougher to make you "feel" like your finger's on the button or if you're pressing the back edge of the phone, but it's really a very very minor complaint.
Overall, this is an excellent case that fits very solidly, protects the camera and looks stylish.**UPDATE**
I have now had this case for a few weeks and am updating my review. The case has held up well and, looking at my phone, doesn't have a scratch on it; my phone was flung out of my hands once and the case did its job without a scratch.
It's the fit of the phone I now have a problem with. I originally questioned the structural integrity, being a two piece case. Initially the fit was tight, but after just a few weeks, the case creaks all over. It is especially noticeable in the top half piece. The top two corners of the phone, every area where a cut-out hole is and the the area where the two pieces of the case meet are all very loose, causing a creaking of the case. The bottom half of the case has maintained most of its tight fit, with a creak in the corners being very obvious. I wish it were a one-piece.

Samsung Epic 4G Android Phone (Sprint) Review

Samsung Epic 4G Android Phone (Sprint)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been playing around with both phones and because I belong to Sprint for the rest of my life's tenure, I shall let you know that these are the two best phones available in the market but let's compare which is better at what.Appearance - The Evo 4G does not have a slide-out QWERTY keypad like the Epic. The Epic despite the keyboard is about an ounce lighter in weight and that says a lot about the AMOLED screen and the absolutely flawless design on this phone. The charging port is located on the TOP of the phone and also has a little slide you need to drag open before accessing the MICRO USB/Charger. The phone looks a terrific black (like the best looking iPhone, oh yeah we care, no sarcasm) when the screen is not on. UNLIKE THE EVO, the standby key is on the right hand side of the phone and does the same thing. On first appearance, the design of the Epic is mouth watering. I've always found Sidekick like phones cheesy and even that DROID from VERIZON looks very plastic to me but I shall diss no more, the Epic might just win on this account (but I know plenty of Evo users who would disagree but this is my opinion). Because of size, weight, 4-inch screen (Evo's 4.3), design of the slide out, the Epic wins this round. Call Reception / Loud Speaker -> While playing music, I noticed the Epic was a little louder than the Evo is but at full volume, it can be a tad too loud too which is obviously such a WELCOME FEATURE. The Evo has a loud speaker alright and also a dedicated home page where you can easily play your music but what matters is the sound because both phones offer excellent customization.Battery Life - This is one of the primary reasons the Epic is likely to do good. I fume when I hear people say the DROID X has a better battery life than the Evo. On Epic, the AMOLED screen ensures you don't need to charge this phone more than once a day. I managed to make this last for atleast a day but I did find the battery readings to be inaccurate from time to time. Maybe this happened because I was trying the phone on Airplane mode and then switching to CDMA so that could be it. There was a difference in the battery life, sometimes the bar would be short and sometimes substantially longer. Maybe it is just a software update that is required but at the end of the day, You can have all the features on a phone but what matters a lot is battery life and the Epic takes this round too. By getting the Evo you will need to buy an extra battery unless you like carrying your wires everywhere you go. If you're getting the Evo make sure you get an extra battery charger and oh save yourself some money and NEVER INVEST ON EXTENDED BATTERIES. You wouuld think Samsung and HTC are more clever than not to have come out with the extended battery in the first place. Feel free to discuss, throw things at me on the comments column.Screen Brightness - HTC Evo is about AS BRIGHT AS THE SUN, absolutely incredible brightness, it's like watching the most expensive HDTV sometimes. The phone even on low brightness is surprisingly bright and I always appreciate brightness. While the Epic is not dull, I'll be lying if I say the screen is as bright as the Evo or even comes close to taking this round. The Epic has a jaw dropping display but the brightness and screen quality while you're on a webpage makes Evo the winner here. The brightness may come at the price of battery life but when you drive a HUMMER, you worry not about the battery life but about the drive.Build Quality of Plastic on the BACK - The Evo certain feels a little more solid and smooth. The back on the EVO is better than the INCREDIBLE. Evo's kickstand is an added feature but the quality of the plastic on the Evo is 15% better than the Epic when you're holding the back though Epic is quite good as it is. **Caution** Do not remove Epic's back size by the SPEAKER, you may damage the phone cause you're such a strong individual, locate a small opening at the end and then LIFT UP the back plastic covering the battery. The back is obviously not RED like the HTC EVO.Bundled Accessories - Epic comes with a 16gb card, in ear earphones, a thicker BASIC manual I haven't opened and read yet. The Evo comes with an 8gb card and no earphones. They both come with a Micro USb Cord which coverts into a wall charger. I have tried and used almost all earphones bundled with phones and have never seen any Sprint phone with such good quality "in-ear" earphones which provide NOISE CANCELLATION. An excellent extra for the fifty bucks you pay depending on where you're buying the phones from. 16gb is like having 2 x 8gb cards.Mobile Hotspot - DRAWTask Killer App - If you hold the home button down on the Epic, an excellent task killer pops up. It is so easy and fun to use that this alone was a big big big deal for me. I've used it on the Evo before but it's just so much hassle free and cleaner on the Samsung, it tells you the percentage of the CPU being used for variety of apps in REAL TIME! Deal-MAKER for me. EVO owners, please correct me if I'm wrong.CAMERA *BIG DEAL FOR ME* - Epic. Epic. Epic. Epic. The customization is Godly. Samsung is slowly becoming very clever. The camera quality is that of a digital camera, I dare say. Also if people are moving and pause for a second, the phone still takes an absolutely astounding photograph. The Evo makes things yellow and although it's 8megapixel, the camera doesn't quite seal the deal. The other thing is that the Evo doesn't have that many customizations for the camera. Samsung has pulled a magic trick with this one. Some envious Evo users tell me that because the screen looks better on the Epic, the images look better but if I were to upload these to my computer, there'd be a difference. This is my response to people who say something like that. How often will I be uploading these pictures? Maybe once in four days, I will be mostly viewing them on the phone so I don't care about that. Mind you, though I haven't uploaded anything yet, I shall upload them and send you a sample picture if you request one. PLEASE BARE IN MIND, while the SAMSUNG has more options, it will take a real techoholic to want to figure out each and every feature, I'm still getting WARMED up to it.Google Sync - The google sync on both phones immediately got all my contacts into the phone, there are a ton of applications so if you have a gmail account even with a blackberry, all your contacts are gonna be SYNCED with either the EVO or the EPIC. Google has a very funny deal-sealing way of having the google sync on the BLACKBERRY. If you're dumping your blackberry, make sure you do google sync and sync all your contacts before activating the EPIC. Ask a store rep to do it for you before buying it BLINDLY from them.

BROWSING - Browsing on the Evo is the best browsing I have ever seen. It still wins over the Epic by just a single point. Epic still gets a 9/10 while Evo because of it's multi-touch gets a perfect 10. There is no lag while browsing or using the touchscreen at all. This is a dream come true for people who've ever had the Samsung Instinct from two years ago. These two phones make my Blackberry look so bad and that's one thing to love and admire about Androids, the fact that they have such capable awesomse fast, intelligent browsers. I have no complaints whatsoever. I have an iPod touch and its half as good at best and I'll tell you the iPod touch is amazing. EVO wins by a life because it's the best at it. Epic is still about two and a half times as good as my Sprint BOLD.On-Screen Typing : On screen typing on the Evo is way better because of HTC's on screen Qwerty. Swype comes built in with the EPIC. I've never used it, I don't believe in it, just looks too cheesy. Evo has a great typing mechanism but EPIC assumes that unless you're typing casually, you will use the physical keyboard to type. The Evo's typing is better than the iPhone's or the iPods. I haven't played with the iPhone 4 yet.
SLIDE OUT / PHYSICAL KEYBOARD : I will go for the Epic over the Evo because it has a wonderful, non-cheesy, idiot proof keyboard slide out. This is the best addition possible besides the camera and the bundled accessries. I despise the Moment's keyboard in comparison though Moment isn't a bad phone. The EVO is supposed to be Sprint and Samsung's replacement for the SAMSUNG MOMENT. I've been away from my 2 day old Epic. I will discover more things and shall let you know. Any cons? The capacitive keys on the front could've been a touch more responsive. On the Evo they seem more responsive. I'm in no hurry for the Samsung Epic to get 2.2 and I'm sure they won't disappoint. Wallpapers look brighter, more alive, sleeker, sexier, more sophisticated on the Epic. When you're in your menu on the Evo you go from top to bottom while on the Epic, if you click Applications you go left right right right. So it's horizontal menu browsing on the Epic and vertical on the Evo.There is so much more for me to discover. I told someone earlier this year that no phone will ever match the iPhone but technology has an astounding way of shocking me. I'm an absolute geek and am glad that the Epic exists. It's like action sequences on the Lord of the Rings : Twin Towers while Evo is like the Matrix chase scenes from Reloaded. Both are feature packed phones but I love to type and the additional keyboard is fantastic for typing.Wi-Fi Browsing : If both phones were used on the Wifi, the Epic is blazingly fast and obviously an easy hands down winner. I didn't try browsing on both using the 3G signal in Manhattan though it loaded a...Read more›

The perfect all-in-one device for staying connected, getting work done, and enjoying the latest in entertainment while on-the-go, the Samsung Epic 4G runs on Sprint's new and expanding 4G network, offering simultaneous voice and data connectivity and download speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G. Additionally, the phone can still connect to 3G data services in areas not currently served by Sprint's 4G network (learn more about Sprint's 4G network below).

The Epic 4G has a large 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display that provides brighter, thinner, and higher-resolution than traditional screens. Samsung's innovative display technology makes watching movies, viewing videos and playing games come to life like never before, even in bright light and outdoor environments. And messaging is simple and easy with the Epic 4G's side-sliding full QWERTY keyboard as well as the included virtual QWERTY keyboard with Swype technology, which allows you to input text faster and in a more intuitive way with one continuous finger motion across the screen keyboard.

Running the Android 2.1 operating system, the Epic 4G brings one-touch access to the popular Google mobile services millions use every day, including Google Search by Voice, YouTube, and Picasa. The Epic 4G also provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, calendars, and contacts supported by Exchange Server and Gmail. And through Android Market, you'll get access to thousands of useful applications, widgets, and fun games to download and install on your phone, with many more apps being added every day.

The forward-facing VGA camera makes it easy to have video calls using the two-way voice and video service from Qik (upgraded account service required), while the 5-megapixel camera on the back also offers HD video recording (720p) for playback on your HDTV.

With built-in mobile hotspot functionality, the Epic 4G also allows up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices--including laptop, camera, music player, video player, or any other Wi-Fi-enabled device--to enjoy the benefits of 4G speeds on the go. Other features include music downloads from the Amazon MP3 Store, microSD memory expansion (16 GB card included; optional 32 GB cards supported), HDMI audio/video output, and up to 6 hours of battery life (learn more about power management on the Samsung Epic 4G).

Sprint's Blazing Fast 4G Network
Sprint 4G offers a faster wireless experience than any other U.S. national wireless carrier, and Sprint is the only national carrier offering wireless 4G service in 32 markets (with more coming online soon). Sprint 4G delivers download speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G, giving this mobile phone the fastest data speeds of any U.S. wireless device available today. Sprint 4G network coverage is expected to reach 120 million people by the end of 2010.

Sprint 4G services dramatically increase download speeds for photos, videos and large files. You can download a favorite song, picture, sitcom or large video in seconds, not minutes, or watch live streaming video- all while on the go, not just from the home or office. Additionally, businesses can benefit from the fast connectivity speeds of 4G. Some examples include:

Real estate agents can conduct virtual property tours.
Construction teams using 4G in the field can save valuable time by sharing schematics with engineers online.
Insurance companies can speed their claims management through real-time communication with on-site adjusters.

A Movie Theater in Your Hand
When Samsung Media Hub launches on the Samsung Epic 4G, it will be the first and only 4G handset to feature a video store with movies and TV shows available for purchase or rental and video content set up for an HD-like entertainment experience on a handset screen.

The Epic 4G will also share user-generated video content with other devices thanks to Samsung's exclusive AllShare service, which wirelessly shares stored music, pictures and HD video to other DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified home electronics--including HDTVs, monitors, digital cameras, printers and more. Through AllShare, you'll be able to capture moments with the phone's camera and camcorder and wirelessly show them to friends or family on a DLNA-certified HDTV or download music from a PC to the Epic 4G and take it on the road.

Ideal for Gaming
The Epic 4G's brilliant Super AMOLED touchscreen display offers the best representation of color on a mobile phone that matches original content more than 100 times the contrast quality of other leading displays. It also features faster response time (which reduces "ghosting" images), wide viewing angles to prevent blurring or distortion, and a thinner design to offer more accurate and responsiveness to touch.

In addition to the dynamic screen, the Epic 4G's six-axis motion sensing uses an accelerometer and geo-magnetic sensor to fine-tune its ability to interpret simple movements and provide an optimal gaming experience. When the phone tilts up and down or left and right, the game can immediately respond in the same direction. To get you started, a demo of the popular Asphalt 5 racing game is preloaded.

Learn MoreSwype Keyboard
An alternative to the Android virtual keyboard, the Swype virtual keyboard allows you to input text by swiping the finger with one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard. Based on testing, speed and accuracy are equal to or better than the traditional keyboard-tapping method. You can activate the Swype keyboard by pressing and holding in a text field, wait for popup to appear, click Input Method, and then select Swype.

In the image to the left, the word "quick" was generated from tracing the path shown above in a fraction of a second, by roughly aiming to pass through the letters of the word. A key advantage to Swype is that there is no need to be very accurate, enabling very rapid text entry.
Switching between 3G and 4G coverage
When switching between 3G and 4G coverage, the Samsung Epic 4G may experience a very brief interruption of data service as the device switches network connections. During this brief interruption, applications attempting to access data may be unable to do so and may display an error message. Below are some examples of how to proceed if an error message appears on the device. Other data-usage applications may experience a very brief interruption and will continue functioning once the network handoff is complete.

Amzer Rubberized Snap On Crystal Hard Case for HTC EVO 4G (Black)
Average Reviews:

You get what you pay for I guess. the case is durable, and fits snugly, but the right side of the case squeaks like crazy. the right side bulges slightly out from the unit and when ever you hold the phone is squeaks terribly. I've had people ask what is squeaking during phone calls. Live and learn, there were no reviews...I should not have bought this case. I made a video and added it here so you can hear the squeaking.
My son go the seidio innocase II 3 days ago and it costs $20 instead of $10 for this amzer case, but fits perfectly and makes no noise. Reviews for the seidio ii, however, say it squeaks after a couple weeks as well. I'll wait a month and if my son's case doesn't squeak, I'll buy one of those and throw this one away. Be warned!! Hope this review saves someone the annoyance of ordering an inferior product.

This rugged case ended up being more then I expected. The screen protector went on without any problems and the whole set up was much lighter then I expected. It fits very well in my hands and I'm not worried about dropping my phone anymore. It would have to be a direct hit against the screen of the phone on a hard corner somewhere for any damage to happen. I highly recommend this case with the 3500 battery for anyone who uses his or her phone a lot.

SGP STEINHEIL HTC Evo 4G Sprint Screen Protector (Ultra Crystal) Review

SGP STEINHEIL HTC Evo 4G Sprint Screen Protector (Ultra Crystal)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It perplexes me the amount of bad reviews mostly based on ignorance. How does one come to find out about a company like SGP in the first place, and not know how to properly install a screen guard? Anyone who is OCD about their phone has the steinheil screens. It is basically an accepted fact within the community that although screen protectors come down to preference, this company ranks among the best. Do not be thrown off by bad reviews, choose this product. While you wait for it to arrive in the mail do 10 minutes of research on youtube, watch a video of a proper install, and you'll have ZERO problems. I can't stress this enough. It's easy to get poor results even from great screen protectors if you install wrong. Just go to youtube and watch a video, seriously!I also suggest purchasing Omni Clearz solution from Radtech which not only cleans and polishes your LCD screen but also removes all static. It is nearly impossible to get bubbles or any sort of lint/dust after watching a proper video install and using this cleaning product. People that whine about it feeling rubbery as well need to understand that plastic will never be as smooth as glass. That being said you can polish the screen protector once it's successfully installed and you'll get a smooth glide feel once again. Just as smooth as the glass.I haven't had my screen guard on for long (2 weeks) But I see no fade in the corners or around the speaker, even after constant wiping (Damn OCDness). I've wasted alot of money on other screen guards only to be marginally satisfied or completely disappointed in their performance. SGP is completely the way to go, just make sure you know what you're doing before installing!

Average Reviews:

Well I read that the HTC Evo is not very water tight on the edges of the screen so when applying a screen protector with the special fluid, water would damage the $500 phone. So I bought this one because it was cheap and I was also hoping it wouldn't have that liquid solution. Well it didn't. It's like the touch screen protectors for DS or PSP. just place it on and you're good to go. It was easy to apply. I didn't get any bubbles but I think there a very small dot (piece of dust) stuck on the screen but it's not annoying to the point where I should remove the protector (it was my fault anyway). Love the protector.

Amzer Snap On Crystal Hard Case for HTC EVO 4G (Clear) Review

Amzer Snap On Crystal Hard Case for HTC EVO 4G (Clear)
Average Reviews:

I bought this case about a month after I got my Evo. I ahd a soft rubber case for the device, but it kept sticking to things in my pocket. Things like my credit cards, etc. I'd constantly have to worry that something stick to the device when I had the soft rubber case on the device and that something didn't get lost.
So, I see THIS case on Amazon. I had read that Azmer wasn't the best quality case, but for the price, I decided to try it out.
Case arrived fairly quickly. Installation was a breeze. I even got the idea to take the back cover off the device and just use the device with the clear plastic cover snapped on. Kind of looks cook with the red back and battery showing.
First time I dropped the phone from my desk, about 3 feet say. The case popped off, the battery popped out, but other than that, the device was undamaged. The case cracked at the lower right quadrant and is now separated from the other part of the case. The rest of it is intact, but the case is clearly broken. It works still and it is still on the device. I just didn't think that a fall of about 3 feet would break the case that easily.
I think the next case I'll have to invest in is something from Otterbox.
It's too bad Azmer couldn't make a case that was clear AND durable.
